Amanda,

I haven't been to Anglsey for a few years now - though I know where Copper Mountain is, and used to pass it weekly at one time.
My Oh was air lifted to hospital in Bangor last November, so when I went up there I caught a glimpse of Menai Bridge floodlit at night, I'd never seen it lit up at night before.
Where did you stay in North Wales?

Good Morning Allan,

I'm fine thank you - I've never really fancied a touring caravan, but would rather like one of those posh RVs with all mod cons. I think wewould take off for the summer to catch up with so much of the UK I haven't seen.

Yes Amanda, It is very green and verdant here - or is it mould? lol, actually I can't grumble, we have had some lovely weather this summer, like you had here in April.

Hello everyone - hope you are all well.

I'm sick of miserable weather. For the last week it's been overcast and raining on and off. Strangely the last two days have been warmish. Shouldn't complain - it is winter but I feel the need for some sun.

We have been invited to a 1st birthday party for the little girl next door. It's to be an bbq in our local rhodedendron gardens. I don't know what the young couple will do if this horrid weather keeps up.

Morning Allan ......the Hobbit was one of the first " proper " books I ever read : ))

Tec .....we stayed on Anglsey ......in the house of my dreams , it was really the house of my dreams.....lol

We took almost the whole family , three daughters and three Grandchildren and the three dogs , in a hired mini-bus . Poor OH was like a cat on a hot tin roof most of the time as the vehicle had big wing mirrors and there are lots of walls in Wales....lol It was a lovely holiday though .

Allan Report 30 Jul 2010 22:57

Tec, The RVs in Australia are too big for my liking. They are, literally, homes from home.

I like something a little more basic so that I can appreciate home when I return!

When OH and I became engaged we stayed on Anglsey,at a little pub called the Gazelle Hotel which was run by an aquaintance of mine. I remember that OH and I got terribly sunburnt during our stay.

Good morning Sue

Hardly bbq weather :0))

We are due for a few sunny days next week, which is just as well as OH and myself are going to Perth on Monday. A couple of ex-colleagues are moving on, one to retirement and another to a new position with a country council. I have been invited to a lunch to be given in their honour by a Perth council.

Another 4 hour round trip for a 1 hour function!

Good Morning Sue,

Hope the weather brightens up for the party, I'm sure you'll enjoy it anyway - no one would ever consider having a party outside here in the winter.

Amanda, I bet you had a great time with all that company, especially in a nice house.

Allan, The RVs here seem to be getting bigger all the time. Not much fun when you meet one on a narrow mountain road. I met one yesterday on a cliff top road, with a sheer drop on his side, he was obviously terified and refused to move over although was plenty of room, so I had to reverse quite a way back...........HO hum.

Morning Sue : )) I'm still having a struggle here thinking that you have a " dark " time in Oz........ I guess it's much the same as our February ....just before Spring really breaks ? ( not that I personally have ever minded that month as my b'day falls in it ) .
I hope the BBQ goes ok .....perhaps the parents of the birthday girl have a reserve plan up there sleeves ?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 30 Jul 2010 23:21

No - the parents don't have a back up plan. Mum is really worrying about it all. I really think she should've kept it simple but they are very excited about the little one's birthday. Of course the little girl has no idea what's going on:-)) She's also worrying about her family as the family structure is a little odd. Her mum died when she was little and her father remarried. She was brought up by a step-mother who she likes but her father divorced and then remarried. Enter step-mother no. 2 who she doesn't like and who is very jealous of the relationship between this young girl and her 1st stepmum.

We've never been keen on the idea of caravanning in our retirement years. The RV's huge these days and I don't fancy driving around in one. People seem to take it for granted that we will join the caravan brigade but not so. We camped with the children years ago and loved it but I'm past that now. We usually stay in cabins in caravan parks. Not exactly roughing it:-))

Allan - we've flown down to Hobart for a 2 hour birthday party. Of course we've stayed longer:-))

Allan Report 30 Jul 2010 23:29

lol Sue

Now Hobart would be worth visiting if only for two hours. We could still do it in a day if the flights were available!! :0))

Blimey Sue.....that sounds complicated , so I hope the rain does hold off , at least that way I guess there will be more space for the stepmothers 1 and 2 to be kept apart . At the end of the day , I hope the baby girl has a lovely day and her Mum and Dad feel that they have done her proud .
It's such a shame when things get so complicated : (

When I was a kiddie we had a touring caravan , my main memories of it are having to sleep on the lump of foam rubber on the floor and the tyres smelling of burning rubber as we drove down the motor-way ( yes they really where ) and Mum freaking out ! ........lol

SueMaid Report 30 Jul 2010 23:37

When I was a child we would go camping. Four children in the back seat - no seatbelts. All of us singing at the top of our voices - until we got fed up then we started with the "he's looking at me" etc. Then dad would get annoyed and mum would tell us we would be going home if we didn't calm down. A false threat as we all knew:-))

When my children get together - not often - they always end up talking and laughing about our holidays. Obviously they are good memories. Now they are busy creating good memories for their children but funnily enough this involves flying - something we could never have afforded when we had a young family and a mortgage.

Sue, i think that it is horses for courses.

When I was young I always remember going by bus to Conwy and then getting the local bus to the caravan park where we stayed.

We never had a car until I was about 13 and that was an old banger, a Ford Prefect, the old 'sit up and beg' style.

Now, like you, we have no intentions of buying a caravan and touring, much to peoples' astonishment.

It's a bit like when I gave up work, everyone asked "Are you moving to Perth?''

They got most upset when I asked them why I should, when all my family and friens are down in the South West.

Sorry folks. I must be off. Daughter has been asked to work and I have been called upon to babysit for a couple of hours. See you all later:-))

Sue xx

Sorry Allan - just saw your post. Yes we are met with astonishment when we say "no caravan". My OH doesn't like the idea of hitching and unhitching a van and I've got used to slightly more comfortable sleeping arrangements:-))

I have memories of caravan holidays with my uncle when I was a boy, about twelve. My uncle had a motorbike and sidecar - my aunt and younger cousin would travel in the sidecar, and me on the back of the bike. One year we set off from Essex to Cornwall. If anyone doesn't know, that's a very long way. My uncle would never stop, except for petrol, and in those days not many petrol stations had toilets. Consequently, everyone would be bursting for the toilet, except apparently my uncle.
I can still see my aunts contorted face screaming at him to stop, but he never seemed to hear.
When we eventually arrived in Cornwall I would get off the bike virtually unable to walk - looking like John Wayne without his horse.
The caravan was much smaller that was imagined, sleeping arrangements were such that I had to sleep with my head under the sink. One night there was a bad thunderstorm - I woke up with such a start and banged my head on the sink, so went around for a few days with an egg on my forehead............Oh happy days.

Tec...... that all sounds precious ...... and I bet it is looking back : )

My Dad and his brothers where all motor bike enthusiasts . But by the time I turned up he had had to resort to a car ( me being number three child ) .........my Uncle has quite a collection of old motor bikes apparently .

Essex to Cornwall , with no stops !! I'm speechless.....lol
