Perse it used to be 60yrs here but recently went up to 65yrs, that mean's I still have nearly 12yrs to go. I too don't get any freebies as I earn to much (but not enough ) to have a holiday somewhere lol. Thank you my son is over the moon about the job.

Tec thank you and I will let him know what you said, it has really been getting him down not haveing a job and he was about to try to start his own busness ( small scale at first ) but it was proveing difficult not haveing any financial back up. Now he can if he so wishes do it as an extra way of earning money. He make's DVD copy's of event's like e.g special occasion's where he put's picture's and video clip's onto DVD to music, he can also do spredsheet's for a busness and other thing's to do with computer's that people need.

Thank's Sue I will pass on to him that everyone here wishes him luck. He has a lot to offer concerning computer's and showing people how to use them couldn't be better.

It is demoralising for young people when they are unemployed. When my son left the army he found that he was over-qualified for a lot of jobs he applied for. Most potential employers told him that they couldn't pay him what he was worth and that they didn't expect him to stay. It was very frustrating for awhile.

Well must go - back to the builing site.... lol

I am sure all will go well for him Diane - he will have a more positive attitude now and that in itself can work wonders.

Lovely to chat to you Tec - usually when I am on here you are not and vice versa.

Thank you Sue for your lovely thread and for putting up with me disappearing and reappearing at odd intervals.

Allan - thank you for the pictures they are really good. Sorry I did not reply - I did try to do so the other day and then he switched the computer off at the wall thinking he was just switching off his multicutter.

I was saying to my OH the other day when we were out, I really need a lap top (not to sit on mind - don't want to break it) - we had stopped at the gear box place where our other vehicle is - he went off on a test drive while I sat in the car waiting. Then he stopped to look at building supplies while I waited and then he stopped at a demolition place while I waited. - I said I could be typing instead of reading, listening to the car radio and doing crosswords.

Love to all

Like you Perse I can remember when there was virtually no unemployment in the UK - people could walk out of a job on Friday, and into another on Monday. Now we have a situation where some people have never worked, so have lost or never had the work ethic. When much of our manufacturing industries closed down older men were thrown out of work, and there was little chance of them finding anything.
Where I live in a very rural part of Wales, there is no industry of any kind, only farming, and shop work. The farmers employ only a few men who have been with them years, and the self employed tradesmen can't afford to take on a youngster, or find time to train them.
The job prospects for young people leaving school are very few, so they either have to take unemployment benefit, or move to the cities to maybe find work. It is hard for a 16 yr old boy or girl to leave everything they know and go off alone to the city to find work and accommodation.

I worry about the next generation Tec.

My grandchildren - how will they get on? They are all bright cookies but will that be enough?

Yes Sue your right, my son as you remember nearly left home to get a job, the problem today is there are load's of youngster's around who know a lot about computer's so he has a lot of compertition when he has applied for any job. He got this one from a jobcentre plus scheme which lasted 13wks and this was a job experience he was sent to, he had to apply for the position which he had been doing after the 13wks with other's from the job centre.

I have just told him you have all wished him well and he said to say thank's to you all.

See you later Persey - it's always good to see you.

Tec - a lot of jobs in the steel industry have been contracted out. Although my OH was on the verge of retiring he was technically made redundant. This was a bonus as he received a redundancy package but he found it a little hard to deal with as he felt he hadn't left on his own terms. Sixteen jobs went and because he was the union delegate he stayed long enough to ensure the younger fellows either had a job elsewhere in the works or received re-training. He then insisted they re-train him so they put him through a truck and bus licensing course and then he waved them goodbye with a big smile on his face.

Bye Perse don't work to hard nice chatting with you again.

You also get the one's who just don't want to work, my daughter's X has as far as I know never worked since he left school and if he did it was not for long, he is now 49yrs old and still sitting on his backside ( lazy so-in-so, he is now married to some-one half his age, he is 15yrs older than my daughter ) I don't know what she ever saw in him, he is a good father to his 3 girl's but a bad example.

I need to start my day before we get ready for this birthday party we're going to today. We were told yesterday that because of the weather it will now be held in the home of dad and stepmother no. 2. It will be interesting because stepmother no. 1 will not be happy with this plan and the poor young couple are stressing already.

I'll say goodnight/morning and will talk to you later.

That was a very wise thing your OH did Sue - good for him.

I had to finish work well before retirement age due to chronic heart problems. OH was still working at her office job. I really thought I would go insane hanging around the house all day, and took over running the house. I sank into deep depression at one time because I felt I had no purpose, so I really sympathise with people out of work through no fault of their own, it is the most demoralising situation to be in.

Good morning everyone - hope all are well. It's been very windy here overnight - so much so we had to take the windchimes down off the front verandah as they were making too much noise.

The birthday party for the little one next door went off quite well. We didn't know many people but they were a friendly group with some young children who behaved extremely well and had lovely manners. The two stepmothers stayed away from each other:-)) Because of the recent bad weather it was held in the home of one of the stepmothers. She showed me around this beautiful house and for the first time I actually felt a little envious of someone else's house. We have a smallish house but we have made it our home and have done things to it to make it comfortable and suitable for our lifestyle. This house we visited was large but so well laid out. It was close to the beach and had a very light airy feel to it. There was an upstairs sitting room with a balcony that had views of the ocean. Altogether a very nice welcoming home.

Good Evening/morning all

All right, who has extended the page horizontally now?? :0))

Sue, I used to be a bit envious of other people's houses but not now. Even though it looks most times as if a bomb hit it, it is still our home.

Yesterday was a beautiful day so we went into Bunbury and did the tourist thing. Took a few photos of the new Cathedral being built, and also of what is known as the Marlston area of Bunbury, including the Silos hotel/apartments

When we first moved here this whole area was a wasteland with old railway workshops, petrol storage facilities and a sewage treatment plant. Now it is one of the most exclusive areas in thw South West.

If any one is interested I will email the photos once I have downloaded them. This will be later today after my trip to Perth.

I would have done it yesterday, but became engrossed in our local AFL derby; Freo Dockers versus West Coast Eagles. The Dockers won (again!!) and West Coast remain firmly at the bottom of the ladder.
