I know.. my SIL ordered a steak at one place and it had roasted leeks with it.. they were all shredded and formed a thing that looked like a bit of tumbleweed on top of the steak..

We did get decent meals where we went out to dinner at Ohakune... my lamb pappardelle was excellent, daughter could not finish hers. SIL ordered steak again and made the mistake of ordering side of veg.. there was plenty on his mains plate.. Even August's pizza was big and he ate nearly all of it.

I laugh at the shows such as master chef Persie where they smear the plate with some sort of pureed veg and male a small pile of twirly things

Once upon a time Linda, it was Olde English.. meat and three or four veg. Fish occasionally and steak and kidney pies or mince or chops etc. Tripe and onions (no thanks) very little chicken as it was so expensive.

Now far more flamboyant. What annoys me is you can get plenty on your plate at the cheaper eateries but the more expensive places do not serve enough vegetables and you sit looking at this bit of art decoration of meat and jus and a couple of smidgeons of something which passes as a vegetable and you pay heaps.

Himself ordered a steak etc at one place, and on the menu it had that it had asparagus quiche with it.. I thought well I could have that bit with my Caesar salad. LOL .. his asparagus quiche was the size of a coat button...would not have been as big as a neenish tart.

Enjoy your Christmas lunch Sue - stay sober :-D

I'm sure you won't poison me Linda :-)

Lamb has gone quite expensive here - is it expensive in Canada Sylvia.

I make a lamb curry if we have any lamb left-over from a roast ............

......... but OH doesn't like it too hot, so I have to make it milder than I would prefer.

we're having a lamb roast tomorrow ................. maybe there will be enough left over to have a curry on Tuesday, or even Wednesday ;-)

Apparently, the Indian restaurant in Fairthingy has a very good reputation locally.
Though I've not been there.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 29 Nov 2014 21:52

The ambience was much better once they left :-)

The poor owner was banging his head on the wall because there were about twenty of them on several tables. Instead of just dividing the bill between the table, they were all arguing because one hadn't had as many courses as another etc. They all wanted to pay for only what they had ordered. Working out the individual bills was dreadful. In the end I think the poor bloke just took whatever money they gave him and ushered them out

What is typical New Zealand food Persie

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 29 Nov 2014 21:50

You and I would probably like the same things then Sue,

I've not seen Bhaji on the Beach Persie, but it sounds fun.

I think the Asians find British food very bland too. Which in the main, it is.

I made a very nice lamb curry for dinner tonight. I can't cope with very hot curries these days, but real Indian food isn't hot, just spicy

Persephone

Persephone Report 29 Nov 2014 21:46

Have you ever seen Bhaji on the Beach..

That was all about taking sides and also taking your spices etc to eat with your fish and chips at Blackpool.

I asked the restaurant owner's son if he took his spices etc when they ate at other places. He said yes because NZ food was too bland.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 29 Nov 2014 21:46

We love Indian food - OH likes hot curry but I like something milder.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 29 Nov 2014 21:43

The lizard sounds interesting Sue, I bet Maisie had a surprise :-D

Persie I love India - I used to think I could live there, it's so interesting and insane.
Going to watch a film in an Indian cinema is interesting, when everyone in the place takes sides, audibly :-D :-D.
I like a curry, but not too hot
