That was a terrible accident, and I also feel sorry for the bowler.

I will have to join you in the rest ............. I've been fighting another problem with my leg, which was slowly getting better, until I walked too much over the weekend.

Physio has told me to "rest as much as possible" for the next few days ........

......... ice pack on a small area of my sit-upon where a bone has got inflamed (you know ........ the area that hurts if you sit for too long on a hard wood seat, such as a church pew), a heat pack along the hamstring down the back of my thigh, leg elevated, as little walking as possible

and let OH do all the work ..................... which is what he does any way!!



now off to do the heat pack and leg elevation, having frozen part of my anatomy :-D

Went to see the quack, although I have decided that witch doctor sums up his skills.

After two months he has decided that maybe it isn't ligament damage but a degenerative tear of the cartilage. Now it could possibly be the cartilage, but not degenerative as it was done by twisting my knee in exactly the same way as sports people do.

So two months down the line with my knee worse that ever, he has now decided to refer me to a knee specialist. That means a long wait for an appointment, so I will just have to hobble around until they get round to me :-(

Sorry I left abruptly this morning. We lost the Internet for around 20 minutes and by the time it came back on I had started my day.

I feel extremely sad about the young cricketer Phil Hughes. Also Sean Abbott. I can't begin to imagine how he must be feeling. Hopefully he will get the counseling he needs to help him realize that it was a freak accident. Poor Phil didn't have much hope of surviving - it was a dreadful injury :-(

Oh dear Berona how awful. I guess I shouldn't say that they bowled a maiden over.. Thank goodness you recovered well.

When Ken Rutherford was hit on the head, he was out of it for a while and then he was very apprehensive about the whole thing. He went into the nets at practice and the others were to bowl towards his head area to get him back to facing the ball again. Not sure I could have done that.

Years ago, I had been on duty in the Kiosk of our Little Athletics during the morning. We finished at noon and all went home. Later, I went back to a very quiet park to check on whether the fridges had both been turned off. There were three boys playing cricket, using the end wall of the kiosk as a back-stop.
I came out and around to walk past the wall just as a ball was bowled. I copped it in the temple as I walked into it's path. I can tell you, those cricket balls are very heavy!! I kept walking but I couldn't see. Everything was black - and I could hear the boy saying "are you all right, lady?" and apologising profusely. I was afraid to stop walking for some reason (still don't know why) but then, my sight came back and I got back to my car and just sat there for a while before I decided I was fit enough to drive home. I was very lucky it was thrown by a boy and not a man and it still comes back to me when I hear of anything like this accident this week. The only thing I had to show for my narrow escape was a lump - but it was a beauty!\
Oh, and I was wearing glasses at the time and the mark of the 'arm' of the glasses made an indentation in the skin on my temple which lasted for a couple of days!.

It is terrible news, not just for him,but also for the young bowler. I saw the replay on TV and it did seem to be a long time before he got treatment. As it happened nothing would have helped as the vertebral artery had split causing a massive bleed into the brain.

Sadly it was just a freak accident, but the bowling is so aggressive that it is a wonder no one else is hurt. I suppose that has been going on ever since our body line tour

Definitely Berona. Ken Rutherford (hit on the head years ago) was saying about his son that plays cricket uses a certain companies pads etc but not their helmets. Did not feel that they were comfortable or as protective.

Science needs to really come up with the answers as they have done with foot science for running shoes.

Poor Phillip also had quite a delay between the time it happened and the arrival of paramedics to the scene. He would have turned 26 at the end of the month. I find it quite devastating and I am not even family or a friend.

Yes. How sad. I saw the scene when he was hit by the ball. He was bending down and the ball bounced and continued on straight into the side of his head - and he was wearing a helmet! A freak accident - but obviously, more research is required into the safety of the helmets.

Just came through the news just now that Phil Hughes has died. They had been talking to one of our cricketers about his injuries on our panel this afternoon just before 5pm.

Very sad news.

Some of our petrol stations are like a café, they have excellent food counters, high stools or comfy chairs and a TV going. We don't get our petrol from them usually but we sometimes eat there. I like this where if you get something from the gold area of food and put it with something from the silver area you get a very good discount.

However, we also have Gull petrol stations which are just solely eftpos, we had to assist some elderly campervan travellers with their purchase. All done without a person and no temptation of ice-cream or other naughty food.

My mum had one or two of those rain hats Linda.. in fact she insisted I use one when I was 13 through to about 16. I would rather have my head wet then wear one of them. I also was only allowed to wash my hair once a week. grrr.. got told off a few times on that one as well.

I hardly slept at all last, frightened of over sleeping :-D

Lisbon is/was a lovely city, and well worth a visit.

I've been to Lisbon a few times,

They have a huge illuminated statue of Christ overlooking the city, as they do in Rio on Sugar Loaf Mountain

I have just been to Portugal once to the Algarve. I think it would be good for a city break, I will put it on the list

I am hungry, I shouldn't be because I made seafood risotto for dinner, but I am. I'm off to scrounge, I will bring something back for you unless you have something nice I can have as well
