I think if you see something and like it, you should buy it instead of talking yourself out of it.

Having a clear out is a good idea - junk and useless things tend to pile up after a while.

It's good for the soul to have a clearout :-)

That always happens. I saw a really nice old terracotta pot for a reasonable price but decided I didn't need it as it was very large. I now wish I'd bought it :-(

I am determined to have a clear out because I have an abundance of bits and pieces in the garden and pots that are past their best.

Well it was certainly a surprise. :-D

When I was at the garden centre on Tuesday they had reduced all their water features by half.
I was sorely tempted as some were bargains, but decided I was being silly.

Now of course, I wish I had bought one - too late now :-(

I have some solar lights in the garden and they still light up after a dull day. However if we have a run of dark, wet days in winter they tend not to light up. Maybe the fairy queen decided you needed a treat.....or shock :-D

You may be right, but it was rather sneaky. Had I not gone out in the dark I would never have known.

Also strange is that the fountain is solar powered - we haven't really seen the sun for days.

Well I did give the fairies a new lease on life. The fairies are probably pleased to see so much work being done on the garden and have rewarded you.

I think any form of gardening is therapeutic, including messing about with pots.

Your OH is very wise to decide he's had enough climbing ladders risking injury - it will be well worth the outlay for the guards.

By the way, do you remember I had a sort of water feature at the bottom of my garden?
I told you that it was broken as it hasn't worked all summer.

Well last night, after dark, I had to go out to get washing off the line.
I noticed a light down the garden, and to my amazement the fountain was going full height, and the lights working as well.

It'll be those fairies I'm sure :-D

I think my daughter is finding it therapeutic after a week's work and running around after the children.

We have a lot of trees around so a leaf guard is sensible. It's a very hard wearing one that shouldn't need replacing while we live in the house. As I said before - OH isn't keen on climbing up and clearing out the gutters anymore.

The leaf guards are such a good idea, particularly if you have trees around you.
Some of my gutters are blocked, but there is no way I can get to them.
I have a downpipe blocked with grass growing.

There is a man coming next week to replace two roof slates, so I will ask him if he can clear the blockages if he can.

I hope that your daughter has as much fun with her pots as you do :-)

I took cuttings from some of my plants and potted them up for my daughter. She has found the joy of gardening :-) My SIL likes to grow herbs and chillies for cooking but my daughter is into pot plants.

We have paid a deposit for the leaf guard for our gutters so now we wait until the people can do the job. Apparently they don't make you wait for long and before putting the guard on the gutters they clean them first.

I can imagine your lovely weather, wish I were there. Very dull and grey here, but forecast to improve over the next few days.

Pleased to see that you are having such lovely Spring weather - enjoy it.

I's not so good here. It's been very dull today with drizzle, although it is quite mild for time of year.
Tomorrow is supposed to be an all time record for Halloween temperature wise on the North Wales coast - may reach 21C .
It was 13C here today on the West coast with a stiff onshore breeze.

The f. I'll this afternoon was quite scary, a bit strange for the main children's half term offering. It was Boxtrolls, I would avoid it.
Pew saw the trailers for all the children's Xmas films, the usual mix of caries and penguins. The one which really stood out was Paddington (as in the bear). That looked really good, I will take Eve to see that one

Hello everyone - including those who are asleep. Another lovely Spring day with us, even though it might get a little too hot - but it's just on 2pm here and really beautiful.

(Tongue in cheek)....I know it may be strange to ask a genealogy question on here....ahem...but a few years ago, I downloaded a chart from one of the sites to show how people can be related "once removed". My brother and I don't agree on how we are related twice to our Dad's sister, who married the son of my Mum's first cousin. However, I've searched through all my paperwork and gone into sites, but can't find either my copy or the site where I originally got it from. Can anyone throw any light on this? I can explain it, but I would like to have something 'official' to show how it cross-checks. Our first cousins are confused too. They don't undertand how we can have the same grandmother on one side - yet on our other sides - our grandmother and their great-grandmother were sisters. I now realise that I am the only one lleft who can understand and explain this - but I would like to give them something official-looking for them to keep.

When Phil was in the garden wing at Parkhaven they had some activities, and had the occasional dance. In the hospital wing where he finished up, they have bingo regularly for those who still 'have their marbles', and they also have entertainers, and for those who are not ambulatory they sometimes play snakes and ladders with a large 'board' on the floor between the chairs, and the residents take turns to throw the dice which is made from a square block of foam, while one of the carers moves their names up or down the board and picks up the dice for the next person to throw, but Phil and some of the other residents weren't interested. They also show DVD films and there is a fish tank. They do try to keep them interested.
