Hello Sylvia,

Glad that you had a nice time with your friend - talking and talking :-D

The Memorial sounds very nice too. Sometimes an informal occasion is much better than a more formal affair, with speeches etc.
Friends can chat, catch up with their news, and remember their friend now no longer with them in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hi Sue and everyone

It was foggy this morning, but the sun burnt it off, and it is now sunny and about 18C

Our friend left this morning .............. we had fun with her, just talking and talking and talking :-D

The "memorial" yesterday was just set up as a meet and chat .......... the husband had invited people from all their "circles" who had had meaning to both of them. There were neighbours, friends from both of the places they had worked, a couple of relations from California, etc etc.

There was a table loaded with "snackies", coffee (2 kinds), tea and water to drink, and chairs and tables set out. It was warm enough that people could go out on the verandah.

The husband greeted everyone, and then just left us to it. He spent time with people he wanted, as well as wandering round the room ............. no speeches or anything.

It was very much their style, and so, just perfect!

now to get back to normal ....... and prepare for Thanksgiving, next Monday :-)

I don't think we are going anywhere ................ we'll just have a nice meal at home.

I'll be glad when you get home Linda so you can see your own doctor and get a scan on your knee. You need it seen to <3

The day turned out lovely and sunny. The children are all back at school so I met up with my daughter and we had lunch together. We don't do that very often so it was nice to sit and chat.

What do you mean?

You have more holidays than many people - here, there, and everywhere :-D

Have a safe journey home. Hope you manage with that dodgy knee.

It is good that the children are taken out and about seeing different things, doing different things.

I too read a lot, and was fascinated by geography, maps of the world etc.
Wanted to travel, and realised my ambition.
Never dreamt I would see so much of the world as I did for so long.
Would certainly have never afforded it as a tourist.

Well I must go to bed now,
Enjoy your day Sue - hope the weather improves later,

Goodnight,
Tec :-)

My daughter's children have many interests because my SIL makes sure they get out and about and do different things. Fishing is their new passion. Aiden also gets out and about too.

I was encouraged to read and that led me to an interest in traveling. I always remember being fascinated by pictures of Balinese dancers. I never imagined I would see them.

I think children are influenced by the things that adults tell them about.

I've spoken often on here about my granddad, given that in those days we didn't have tv, or computers etc. our interests were different.

He was basically a countryman. So taught me about a lot about nature. Spent hours teaching me to identify birds, by sight, and their song.
How to identify trees.
Catch a fish by "tickling" it in a stream.
Spot a hare hiding in a ploughed field.
We were never happier than when out in the country, forest, anywhere outdoors where there was wildlife.

THis interest has stayed with me for life, and I do wonder if today's children know or learn about these things, even though it is a very different world.

A few years ago it was Robin Hood. Who knows how these interests start although his dad tends to talk to him about different things. My brother was like that when his boys were a lot younger. I was always surprised at the knowledge they had on different historical events.

How strange that Nessie has captured Aiden's imagination - a legend, so far away :-)

Goodnight Linda - sweet dreams <3

I can't wait to see Aiden and he is looking forward to seeing us too. Partly because we have a book on the Loch Ness monster for him. He loves reading about Nessie :-D

Hope you have good weather while you're away Sue, but it will be cooler down there I expect - so long as the sun is shining, and it's dry .

I am so envious that you are going to Tassie :-D

We've had a run of beautiful Spring weather but it's miserable today.

Next Friday we fly down to Hobart for a visit with our son and Aiden. We were going to make the trip later in the month but Aiden's mum is going away for a weekend and she asked if we could go earlier so she could see us. The weather seems to be nice at the moment so I'm hoping we can get out and about.

You are bound to feel the cold for a few days after what you've had there.

Time to dig out the jumpers. :-)

I was in the garden for a few hours today, and it didn't feel cold.
