Bertha certainly made her presence felt here. She blew in at 4am with torrential rain and very strong winds last lasted until 2pm.
The rest of the afternoon was sunshine and showers.

My brother and SIL visited. As it was his birthday I treated them to lunch at the village pub. Very nice too.
They are off to the Isle of Man tomorrow for two weeks and the Manx Grande Prix , motorcycle racing. The have had a property there for years.

Persie

the beetroot jelly ................

making the raspberry jelly with half water and half white vinegar cuts the sweetness.

You can make it using plain gelatine dissolved in white vinegar (or half water and half white vinegar) .......... but it doesn't have the lovely colour that the raspberry jelly gives it.

Now Linda isn't here......she is a whizz in the kitchen and her chutneys, jam and pickled beetroot are yummy. We also had delicious crumbles with fresh fruit. Don't tell Linda I said so :-D

My father would be proud of that Linda and her beans.. He was always doing beans, ;-)

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Aug 2014 10:36

Well I had better get on and deal with all the beans OH picked yesterday. It is a chore blanching and freezing them but worthwhile as they last through the winter, I already have a freezer drawer full with broad beans, so I will have to do a bit of reorganising to get this lot in as well.

Sleep well, see you in your morning <3

Mine was red and it has faded and has silvery bits in it and hairdressers ask how often do I have it coloured. Unlike my daughter's my hair has never been coloured. it can age with me.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 10 Aug 2014 10:28

Grey :-0

Natural blonde :-0

Umph.......

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Aug 2014 10:21

My hair is still naturally blonde Persie, I have never dyed it. According to my hair dresser, it is very unusual to still be so blonde at my age. I do have some grey near my ears, but not much. I don't mind, I will just let it go grey and leave it like that

I sat for days with my dad and then he died at night when I was home... but it was after I had told him it was time to go and join the rest that he finally went. It was three weeks of just lying there from the time they revived him when he collapsed in the shower.

I was being polite Sue.. about your hair.. I know very little about your cooking but shouldn't think Linda had to be that explicit in her instructions.

Have you remained blonde Linda, or have you put colour in it?

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 10 Aug 2014 09:49

Make that grey Sue :-D

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 10 Aug 2014 09:42

Linda wasn't joking - she did indeed leave me full instructions as to how to put the meat on the tray....*sigh*

Huia - I felt the same when my father died. In and out of hospital which he hated and when we visited he hardly knew us. Thankfully he wasn't ill for as long as poor Phil but I hated to see him suffer.

Persie - my hair is silvery not blonde :-|

I said sorry to you Jem so I didn't have to apologise to Linda and Sue who are both blondes.

I can understand that Huia :-)

It's been a hard 5 years I should imagine. Now is the time to do something nice for yourself :-)

Persie-
Don't worry, I often have blonde moments, especially when I am nervous :-D :-D

Good morning Jemima. Please don't feel sorry for me, I am relieved that it is finally over as he had Alzheimers type dementia and didn't seem to know me, and kept getting chest infections. He was in care for 5 years, so I did my weeping several years ago.

sorry Jem.. I asked that same person if I could get her another drink when we were at another do and she said she would have a rum and coke.. I asked her husband who was up at the drinks table to make it.. I thought he would know how she liked it... he poured her a gin and coke.. I said she asked for rum and he said she won't know the difference... and she didn't. :-S
