We have also had a record year for wild fires. Not so much forestry, though there have been some, more mountain fires with the heather and the gorse.
Many started by idiots deliberately. Some have got very close to property.

Oh goodness, I will make you some coffee Tec :-|

It poured with rain here all afternoon and evening yesterday. That is why my internet wouldn't work last night. whenever we got prolonged rain we have problems, I think a cabinet or wire in the ground must be affected by the water

Tecwyn Report 9 Aug 2014 21:40

I wasn't offered coffee :-0 sulking now

SylviaInCanada Report 9 Aug 2014 21:39

My daughter was under a warning that Bertha might hit them, but it veered off into the Atlantic sooner than expected ............... and you guys are going to get it.

Tec ................. literally everywhere is tinder dry here, and that includes the parks in the cities and towns.

We have had this hot weather since the last week of June, with only a trace of rain on one day in most places. Plus, we didn't have that much rain earlier in June

It's going to be a record forest fire year, I think.

I have a cup of coffee Sylvia and was contemplating getting a straw to try it, but I can't be bothered to move :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 9 Aug 2014 21:37

I'm very well thank you Sylvia :-)

I can't imagine sipping latte through a straw :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 9 Aug 2014 21:35

Everywhere was so dry here too, but we had a heavy shower this evening.

Lots of rain forecast for tomorrow, and strong winds, when the aftermath of hurricane Bertha reaches us from across the Atlantic in the early hours.

Sometimes these dire warnings prove to be grossly exaggerated - sometimes they're not :-0

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Aug 2014 21:33

I have never heard of that Sylvia, it sounds different.

Sometimes I do a beetroot chutney, but we prefer the ordinary pickled variety and eat quite a lot of it. I spice the vinegar myself,so it isn't like the jars of beetroot you buy in the supermarket. sue's Oh seemed to like it :-D

Hi Tec .................

I'm very well thank you, and you???

I'm back to drinking my latte normally :-)

it tastes much better than through a straw :-D

SylviaInCanada Report 9 Aug 2014 21:30

I order a lot from the internet ............ but I've never done groceries. We do live very close to a big store:-)

I also like the baby's hair brush for a bottle brush.

Dumb packer!

we're still having lovely weather .............. it's been cooler for the last 3 days or so, but is hotting up again.

We really desperately need some rain, though ................... everywhere is sooooooooooooooooooo dry

Tecwyn Report 9 Aug 2014 21:30

Good Afternoon Sylvia,

How are you today?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 9 Aug 2014 21:28

Linda ..................

have you ever tried beetroot in jelly??????????????

it's lovely with cold meats. BUT you have to keep the jars in a cold place.

OH's mother used to make it, and we used to often make 1 or 2 jars.

Smallish beetroot are best for this

Cook the beetroot.

skin and slice thinly, then cut slices in half across

Make up a raspberry jelly, using half water and half white vinegar

Put beetroot slices in a jar, and fill with the jelly mix

Cover

Let set

We never sterilised the jars, but did keep the jars in the fridge.

She will have found some other man to chat up by now, so you needn't worry about her

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 9 Aug 2014 20:42

I love the hair brush for a bottle brush :-D

I've had two substitutions. They sent Philadelphia Spread with garlic and herbs, instead of with chives, but I didn't mind that.
Today they sent a packet of fruit scones instead of plain ones, again, that's fine.

The driver always asks if the sub's are acceptable, and will take them back if not.

They come from the Shrewsbury branch to deliver here.

The cashier in the Co-op who used to chat me up must be wondering where I am. I last went there a week before Christmas :-D

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Aug 2014 20:26

You are lucky with your Asda orders. my daughter orders from Asda and I often take it in. There are always substitutions when they don't have what she ordered.Usually they are pretty much like for like. they often send something which is slightly more expensive. Sometimes they do silly things. Last week she ordered a large family size Mousaka 800g, instead of that they sent one from their finest range but it was only 400g, wouldn't you think they would have sent two of them.

The stupidest substitution was one week when she ordered a babies bottle brush. They sent a babies hair brush instead, how she was supposed to clean a bottle with that I don't know

Tecwyn Report 9 Aug 2014 20:12

Good Heavens Linda - you have a little cottage industry going there :-D

Whatever do you do with it all?

Well my washing dried nicely, now it is raining heavily.

My grocery order from Asda was delivered at 6-15pm. Everything was as I'd ordered.
I am glad that I am organised with them. Even if I get my driving licence back I will continue to use them. It will much easier than struggling to get it home from the supermarket.

My brother and SIL are planning to visit tomorrow, but the weather forecast is awful, so we will see what happens.

LindainHerriotCountry

LindainHerriotCountry Report 9 Aug 2014 18:28

You are a real tecky now Tec :-D

I I have made another seven large jars of beetroot today. There is still a. Large pile in the garage, but I will leave that until Sunday because my brother wants some, so I will do any he leaves. There is even more growing on the allotment.

OH picked a vast amount of French beans today, but I will leave them until tomorrow to blanch and freeze.

The problem with growing your own produce is that it all has to be harvested and dealt with, still it us worth it

Hello Carole :-)

Nice surprise :-)

I just did order my inks online.
As I live beyond civilisation I order a lot of things online. My grocery order is being delivered later today.

Perhaps that blue wren was blue with cold :-D never mind, Spring is nearly upon you.
Hope all is well with everyone in your household, including the hairy ones :-D

Just a thought - shouldn't you be in bed? :-D

Carolee Report 9 Aug 2014 13:24

Hello everyone,

You can order your inks on line Tec, marvelous invention on line shopping :-)

Still freezing cold down here. I tried to get a photo of a little blue wren the other day and was going to send it to you, alas it turned out blurry, well it was cold out there lol

Very windy here today, but the sun is shining at the moment. Fluffy white clouds moving at a rate of knots, being pushed by something nasty behind them.

I have optimistically put a line full of washing out, so fingers crossed. I hate having to use the tumble dryer at this time of year.

Just went to print off two letters, but my printer's died because it needs new inks :-(
