As I am coming in a bit late on the treatment of Esme, I do not know all that has gone on before me. 1) it sounds like a roster should be drawn up and Esme's father is to play his part in child care. Can't just walk away from a child in distress. 2) Is there some sort of group with other babies through to toddler age that have the same needs/problems that Esme does? Does she have to be exercised re this mucous thing? I think I need to read up about it, but have seen programs on TV here with parents and babies with similar difficulties to Esme's and one of the things I saw them do was exercising the little one.
Now about pigeons, have never fancied them myself but have always been intrigued the way they follow the roads and roundabouts to get home and do not journey "as the crow flies".... did not realise that some get lost. They should seek a bus shelter in a storm or when the wind buffets them off course. However, I would "have a pigeon as part of a "buffet" of 'course.'
I do hope Tommy grows out of this breathing problem following bronchiolitis .. Evan had it as a little baby and turned blue and stopped breathing a couple of times.. Now I look at him performing with his class the other night, they were all dressed in black shorts and t shirts for this dance and he looks like he a member of the All Blacks Front Row, he is not 13 yet but standing next to the others he did look very athletic... and most of the games I see him play are on his little mobile whatever player.
As a Nana I learn all sorts of things and have just spent a week in Wellington and some time with August. August showed me this sore he has in the crease where one's little finger joins one hand. I asked if it was sore and got an excruciating look, and then asked as one "used to do" with little ones, "would you like me to kiss it better." The reply was " No thank you it is alright, it will heal by itself." So that's me told.
Persie :-)

Goodnight Linda and Amanda <3 <3
Tec - I think a lot of children are glued to their game devices. My grandchildren would certainly be like that if allowed. Their stepdad is very good at making sure they get out and about even if it's down to the local park. Their mum limits the amount of television they watch. I think Aiden plays too many games on his game thingo and loves movies. Having said that - my son gets him out doing different things and he always has great plans for when we visit.

Goodnight Amanda, Goodnight Linda......sleep well both of you. :-)
Sue it is curious that the children get bored. When as you say, there is so much to do these days. Also you do have the weather.
We had very little to entertain us, not even television when I was very young, but I can't ever remember being bored. I read books, did jigsaw puzzles, and we made our own entertainment outside. It's hard to understand that today's children can be bored with all that is available to them

We were talking around the table on Mothers Day discussing how a lot of children seem to get bored these days. There is always so much to do and we have the climate to be out and about even in winter.

I think children like to get involved in growing veggies. My little fan club each had their own little patch when they lived here. I was regularly taken to inspect their efforts. They were terribly proud of the results :-D

We all posted at the same time!!
There are schools here that do that, Tec. The preschool that the children went to before school grows their own veggies. These are tended to by the children and any surplus is sold to the parents.

Hello Sue and Linda :-) Thank you all for wishing Tommy well , he is a tough little cookie and I'm sure he won't be laid to low for long :-)
Linda , I hope that Esme grows out of the mucus thing soon , perhaps as she takes more solid stuff it will ease ?
Tec , the school with the hens sounds very progressive , I should think the set up will work on many levels , and all for the good :-)

Hello Sue,
Is Aimee recovered now? I hope so :-)
Linda it's good to see that you are managing better now that you are getting used to the feeding methods for Esme. Such a shame that she is sick all the time, poor little girl. As Sue said, you must be very tired, so take care of yourself.

Hello Sue. Shed did seem a bit better with me today, but shed started off with her father and he couldn't cope with her, shed was just screaming. He should look after both of them on Mondays, he has only done it twice and couldn't cope, he disappeared to do some work, which was fair enough when OH was here, but he didn't reappear to give me a hand after he left

Tommy sounds quite poorly - poor little lad - I hope the medicine soon makes him well again.
I regretted releasing the pigeon afterwards. I worried that he may not find anywhere else to feed, and if he didn't make it home would starve. :-0 Possibly once a pigeon gets lost it is of no further use to it's owner, but there are all sorts of reasons why a pigeon goes off course - like a storm.
Five eggs a day is quite good. I was listening to a radio programme today about a school up here in N.Wales that have over 100 hens. The children look after them, and the school has found it quite lucrative, selling the eggs to the parents, and a local shop :-)

Hello everyone.
I hope Tommy gets b better quickly Amanda, as you say, it is hard work looking after them, but rewarding.
Feeding Esme is easier because I am more adept with all the tubes, but she is still not happy, so she gets upset and is sick. Part of her condition is that she produces large amounts of mucus which fills her stomach and has to come up
She should grow out of it eventually, but in the meantime it is a pain

Hello everyone :-D
Persie - as if we would let you go ;-)
Amanda - I do hope Tommy is much better before long. It's awful to see the little ones ill.
Sylvia - it will be lovely for you to see your daughter.
Linda - I wish things were easier for you. I love having the children but I do get tired. Looking after Esme must be exhausting - especially as she doesn't seem to be settling down with you. Take care.

Good evening Tec :-)
My PC is playing up this evening , again :-(
I don't think I'll get in touch with any one about " Pidg " , I've been reading a bit about the raceing and have decided it isn't very ethical . He can take his chances living as he has choosen and I'll feed him as long as he is around :-) I can't imagine his previous owner will want him back , seeing as he got lost in the first place . We girls are okay , laying on average five a day , so that is exceptable . We need to get them moved again as it has become very muddy in the run , with all the rain .
Yes , Tommy has a nasty cough , with a wheeze and rattles , he really was stuggerling to get the air in , bless him :-(

Good Evening Amanda - our posts crossed :-)
I hope that little Tommy continues to improve. Good that you got him to the doctor for some medication - does he have a bad cough?
Thank you for the offer of the pidgeon :-D but I'd rather have a parrot, preferably one with colourful language :-D We had a racing pidgeon sp stay with us a few years ago. He was obviously attracted by the wild bird seed I put out every day. After two weeks, and no sign of him moving on, I captured him to read his leg ring. The contacted the Racing Pigeon Ass'n. They gave me the phone number of it's owner, who apparently lived in Yorkshire. I contacted him, but he wasn't very interested. He wasn't bothered about having him back, but told me to take him about three miles away from here and release him. I did this and watched him fly away. We never saw him again, and I often wondered if he ever got home. A magnificent looking bird as pigeons go :-D
How are the Girls? productive I hope. I mean of course the hens, not your daughters :-D Though I hope they are also well :-)
