Goodnight Linda - sleep well :-)

Hello :-)

Goodnight Linda - I can well imagine how tired you are <3

Tec - you are well on your way. I'm so pleased that you have progressed to this :-)

I am so tired, I am going to sleep early, goodnight

That is good progress Tec. It will be good if you can walk with crutches, even if you don't do it most of the time. More dignified than hopping :-D

It is interesting what you say about your geraniums Berona - we are very lucky to get them to survive over winter, and as I said earlier, they are usually killed by frost.
I have had some go into a second year, but further than that they need replacing.

Linda - I expect your legs must be aching after all that walking. What you need is one of those rolling pavements like they have in the gym :-) place Esme's buggy on that, and you can relax. Seriously I hope things improve as the week goes on.

Today I went to the artificial limb centre. Practised walking with a prosthetic leg using the parallel bars. Using a fixed knee joint, and a "free£ knee joint. The fixed knee was easier.
They said I did very well, and at my next session in two weeks they will take a cast, prior to fitting a leg for me - so we are getting there.

It sounds as if your geraniums are large bushes Berona. The ones we us e here for summer bedding are individual small plants which we usually throw away at the end of the season.

I am shattered, I have walked miles again .today, Esme still isn't impressed by my company.

Berona Report 6 May 2014 12:19

Hello all. I have the same geraniums that have been there for years. Just cut them back to tidy the bush and they continue to flower all year round. I had one plant at the back of the garden under the window. It was a light tomato red. However, it has now finally died because of the foreign neighbours' visitors' children. My cat sits on the window-sill and the children make a bee-line for her - straight through the garden!.... I often hear mother say "Ooo, look at the pussy cat" but I've never heard any of them say "come off the garden"!! So the centre plant has given up and died from being trampled on. I will replace it with a crimson coloured one when I can but I will need to protect it in some way or the same will happen to it. My son-in-law went over all of them with his hedge-trimmer - and the plants are all sprouting again. Well, it did take six years for the kids to kill that one, otherwise I could say you can't kill them and they do bring colour to the garden all the time even when nothing else is flowering.

Hi Sue, and everyone

we're having a bit of everything, weather-wise :-)

Retirement age here is 65 for both men and women, always has been the same age ........ but the Government said in its 2012 Budget that they would raise the retirement age to 67 in 2023.

That of course depends on the same Government still being in power then :-D

In fact, one cannot be forced to retire at 65 ........................ that is when OAS is paid, but if you want to work longer, then your employer cannot force you out.

If you think about it ...................... the retirement age of 65 was brought in when people's life expectancy was 70-75, so people were looking at 5-10 years of retirement.

Now, we have a much longer life expectancy, and people are looking at 20-30 years of retirement. Some of course will have long-term health problems, but the health regimes of the baby boomers means that most of those now aged 60-65 are much healthier than a 60-65 year old would have been 20 years ago.

I think what it all means is that people have to take much greater responsibility for their own pension plans rather than depending solely on the government.

I don't know how the Old Age Pension works in Britain or Australia, who funds it, etc ................. but here, the current work force pays into the fund, and the current retirees draw out of that fund. So, the workers are paying the OAS. As the working force drops OR the retired numbers increase, then the less money there will be for OAS

take care everyone

I despair sometimes at the logic of the clowns that currently run our country. :-(

Running it into the ground more like :-0

Well I have a busy day tomorrow - so must go to bed,

Enjoy your day Sue,

Sleep well Diane,
Goodnight,

Hello Diane - my retirement age is 65. That won't change for me. It has gone from 60, 63 and then 65 over the years. It helps that we have a volunteer allowance here but I should think the government will target that soon :-(

Tec - I followed your advice last year and cut back my geraniums to little sticks. They rewarded me by coming back beautifully this summer so I will do the same. Some of my geraniums are 4 or 5 years old. When they look too scruffy I replace them.

Diane - Of course people can't manage on just working three days a week, but they are expected to draw on their vast savings in order to live :-D :-D :-D

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 5 May 2014 23:01

I've had all red geraniums Sue - they give such a show in the summer. I have had salmon pink ones other years, and the white ones always look awful after rain.

You can cut geraniums right back, and they usually grow back again. I've done that many times. Mostly they get cut down by frost, although some survive to a second year, they are never as good, so I tend to replace them each year.

Diane

Diane Report 5 May 2014 22:59

Hello Sue, Linda and Tec :-)

One minute they are dropping retirement age and then the next they increase it :-(
On the new's yesterday they were saying people and employers would benefit from a 3 day week but women now have to work until they are 66yrs :-S :-S :-|

It begger's belief, how would people survive on minimum wage doing only 3 days work ???

It is nice that Milo likes to stay. Enjoy your day out tomorrow.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 5 May 2014 22:56

Are the geraniums various colours Tec? I need to cut mine right back - they are very leggy now after putting onager at show for summer.

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 5 May 2014 22:51

Yes I did spend some time in the garden. The rain held off until 5pm. I potted on 24 geranium plants.
They arrived six plants to a tray, and I've potted them on into 4 inch pots to grow on until big enough to go into tubs for the summer.

I had Milo for company today :-)
