I'm glad his eye is feeling easier Sue :-)

I sometimes used to wonder what on earth happens to the poor people that don't have the grit and determination to overcome a life changeing injury / illness , I suppose they just give up ?

Hello Amanda :-) Thank you for your concern. OH's eye is much better this morning.

I admire anyone who comes back from serious illness or injury- it takes a great deal of strength and courage.

Good evening Tec and Good morning Sue :-)

Tec , how wonderful to hear that you have gone it alone , well done :-D I can still remember the happiness of reclaiming each situation , after I had my accident . Of course I was never actually on my own , as I had my two elder children then ( but they where only three and five ) , each challange you face and conquer , will give you a real buzz :-D I'm sure you will find a way to get out in the garden once the weather gets warmer .

Sue , I hope your OHs eye soon heals , I'm so glad he hasn't done anything serious to it , I winced when I read your post , eyes are so precious !

It's an enormous area and very deep, Tec. So many resources are out to find that plane. How can it have disappeared in this day and age?

SueMaid Report 23 Mar 2014 22:14

It's been a tough time for all of you and so life changing. That's the part I find hard to get my head around - how everything has changed for you and the Duchess. However you've risen to the challenge and I admire you for that. I'm sure the Duchess is being well cared for and that must be an enormous weight off your mind.

Watching the news coverage of the search off the coast of WA for the wreckage of the missing aircraft.
People don't realise how big that ocean is

Yes I am back :-D.

I was touched the other day when my daughter looked at me with a smile, and said "It's good to have my dad back"
:-)

OH said you are right about the small jobs catching you off guard :-)

I like your eagerness to get out in the garden and also your front door. Tec is back!!!

Tecwyn Report 23 Mar 2014 21:53

Meant to say, it is usually the small jobs that accidents happen, they seem to catch you off guard, whereas with bigger jobs you take precautions.

Yes it was lovely, as always, to have my daughter here, but also good to be able to get on with things in my own way unsupervised : as it were.
Once the ramps are in place so that I can get out of the house without help that will make a big difference.
It is so annoying to be only able to look at the garden through the window, but I will find a way.
I think it will be a while before the ramps are organised, and really I should be satisfied to be home at last. Anyway, the weather isn't warm enough to be out there yet

Hello Tec :-). Well done you. I know how much you enjoy being with your daughter but are you pleased to be able to start your new routines in the house? You will quickly find what you are able to do or not do.

OH is usually safety conscious around the yard and garage but these were hust small twigs he was cutting off the tree. The doctor said that scratches on the cornea heal within 48 to 72 hours but there is the problem of infection hence the antibiotic drops.

Tecwyn Report 23 Mar 2014 21:33

Good Morning Sue,

Oh dear - poor OH, you just never know when these things are going to happen.
I hope his eye problem isn't too painful, and that it soon clears up for him.

Well that was my first day fending for myself, and it went rather well. I even devised a way of safely getting out to the washing machine in the back porch where I have the washing machine, tumble dryer, and chest freezer. So I haven't got to bother anyone with the washing now.

Tomorrow the care ladies start calling, 10am, and 5pm. I can't see that there will be much for them to do really.

Hello everyone :-D

We had an eventful evening. OH was cutting some dead branches off a tree when he felt something hit his eye. By tea time his eye was red and watery and a hour later he asked me to take him to the medical centre. He has a small scratch on his cornea and came away with eye drops and antibiotic drops. He never does anything by halves :-D

Good Morning Huia, :-)

It does sound like I'm sleeping in a V shape :-D, but the bottom of the bed is only slightly elevated, so that your ankles are just raised above the level of your bottom.

Good luck with the diet and exercise. I am struggling to put on weight, as I lost so much while unwell, but I'm slowly reclaiming it.

Enjoy your day :-)

Good evening, Tec. I hope things are going well with you. It sounds as if you will be sleeping in a V shape!

I have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic so I have been exercising more, and watching my diet, although not too strictly yet, and have lost almost 1kg in the past 5 days.

I will be working in the shop again this afternoon, so must hurry and finish looking at all my web sites so I can do some exercises and then get ready to go out.

Hello Berona,

I think lowering the sink will be very helpful to me. I can stand on one leg, but only for a very short time, and it is a bit dangerous.

The "special" bed that I had to wait so long for is very like the hospital beds, but not so big.
It is electrically operated, and can be raised either end. I have always needed several pillows, as with the heart problem it is easier to breath, and I get less angina. So raising the top end is very helpful.
The doctors require that I sleep with my leg elevated, to prevent oedema (fluid swelling) and to help circulation in that leg. So raising the bottom of the bed solves that problem.
The mattress they supplied is quite comfortable ,seems to me to be a simple foam mattress, and better than the one I had in hospital. That was a water bed. Very uncomfortable I found. For a while I had an air bed, a thoroughly stupid invention, with hard ridges across the mattress, that pumped themselves up throughout the night :-0 The idea being to prevent bed sores I believe.
The one I have now is a temporary loan, until the one I'm supposed to have arrives.
That was to get me out of hospital and home again, otherwise I would still be in there. Well I wouldn't, because I was on the point of discharging myself when they came up with that solution.

It is a lovely sunny day here, but rather cold. I can see snow on the mountain tops.

Hello Berona although I think you will have signed off.

Lovely day today although too warm to be in the garden until the afternoon.

Berona Report 23 Mar 2014 09:06

Hello all. Still having very warm weather here. Occasionally we get thunder and lightning, but no rain!

Tec - hope you are managing now that you are on your own. Glad to know you are wearing the pendant. Mine only comes off for me to go to sleep and on again before I stand up when I get out of bed.

I like the idea of lowering your kitchen sink. I get tired standing in front of mine and need to keep sitting down. Everything takes five times as long as it used to take this way - but I have plenty of time on my hands.

How are you adapting to the new bed? What's so special about it?

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 22 Mar 2014 21:57

Goodnight Tec - sleep well <3

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 22 Mar 2014 21:55

Good idea to add perlite Sue, I use sharp sand as well, or even the small gravel they use in fish tanks.
Many things die due to wet feet, especially here with low temperatures as well.

Well I am going to make a drink, then off to bed. This is my first evening alone. I think we change the clocks next week, and I can't wait for the light evenings.

Enjoy your day Sue, (wonder if Linda escaped from Wales
:-D )

Goodnight,
Tec :-)
