Hello Berona, it is not yet bedtime

Berona

Berona Report 26 Jan 2014 22:08

Hello all. Have I really caught you before you take to your beds? Well, if I've missed you, hope you keep warm and sleep well.
My goodness, all that rain!!! I can't remember when it rained like that here. I would say about fifteen years ago. I remember having a week of torrential rain each winter, but not since then. We still get rain, but nowhere near as often as we did and never torrential these days. Never enough.

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 26 Jan 2014 22:05

It would have been quite easy to do - we don't even need torrential rain to flood that area as it is so low lying.

Nothing planned for today - it is dismal again and quite cool this morning. It will be warming up again over the next few days.

The children go back to school on Wednesday - they are certainly ready for it :-0

Someone might have wanted to build a boating lake

SueMaid

SueMaid Report 26 Jan 2014 21:57

We have horse stables not far from us. The exercise fields are nearby and they flood easily and that sends water all over some vacant land nearby. Someone tried to subdivide the land and sell it. Locals had to laugh at the "For Sale" almost under water - it never sold :-D

We are fine Amanda, up hill from the river. There was a torrent running down the road outside this afternoon, mainly from the fields, but it misses the house

Hello Linda , Sue and Mersey .

I hope you are safe from any flooding Linda , it is the standing water that is causeing problems now in some areas . It looks as if the Isle of Avalon is back in Somerset :-0

The water is standing on the garden, I will see what it is like by the church tomorrow, but the picnic benches are bound to be under water again

Hello everyone - do you have webbed feet yet? The weather sounds dreadful. Please take care.

I'm sorry to hear your auntie has passed away, Diane. I remember you talking about her before.

We went to our daughter and SIL's home yesterday for lunch. No BBQ as the weather was dismal. It was very relaxing and the food as always was good

Diane Report 26 Jan 2014 21:32

Hello again :-)

popped in quickly to see if there was any further news about Tec.

I'm feeling rather down at the moment because I had a phone call from my old aunt's nursing home with the news that she has passed away today at 12pm.
Some of you will remember I used to care for her and her husband, after he passed away 12yrs ago I continued to help her, they were not my real aunt and uncle but as I had known them since I was 9yrs old I had always refered to them as my relative's, as I got older they became like a second mum and dad to me and they said I was like a daughter to them as they never had any children of their own.

Sending my best wishes to Tec, the Duchess and the rest of his family and hope he is recovering well <3

It finally stopped raining mid afternoon, so OH went out and washed the car. Why I have no idea as we are travelling the length of the country on Wednesday,so it will be filthy then

I think we are going to need an ark not wellies.

I saw the forest on the news.. When I was a gal, I live on the east coast and we had ancient trees which were exposed at very low tides, there were very interesting to look at

edited because the original was posted from my tablet and made no sense at all thanks to the crazy predictive text

Good morning Linda with WELLIES at the ready :-D

That's like most problems we have today mens greed and sod the outcome, ditches were dug for a reason but those that think they know bests do what they want if it means making more money :-|
We don't seem to be having rain to bad yet, did you see on the news about the old forest that has re-appeared on the Welsh coast,

23 January 2014 Last updated at 12:43 GMT
Recent storms have forced a stretch of the Welsh coastline back to reveal artefacts dating back up to 6,000 years.

LindainHerriotCountry Report 26 Jan 2014 11:08

Good morning from the relentless rain.

It really is dreadful out there,so I won't be venturing out today. The whole country seems to be under a deluge. The worst part seems to be in Somerset levels where about twenty six square miles are under water.

Interestingly, OH was watching a history programme last night about King Alfred the Great. He was king of Wessex in the mid 800's when the north of the country had been occupied by the Vikings. They were trying to take over his country,so he retreated into the Somerset levels to hide.It said that today, they are mainly farmland but then they were just vast expanses of marshland and bogs with a few scattered islands in them. Obviously they have been drained, but now nature is reclaiming them.

The river here was full to the top yesterday,so it will have come over this morning. One of the main roads into the town is regularly flooded now by water running off the fields. I remember when fields always had drainage ditches around the side of them, then the farmers filled them in and planted right up to the hedges, now they even get an EU subsidy to keep wildlife corridors around the edge of the fields. No wonder the fields are all flooding. It wouldn't have happened in our ancestors day when most of the population were ag labs involved in digging ditches and banking up.

Hello everyone :-)

This sight was awfull yesterday just when we least needed it to be :-(

Linda thank you for all the updates on Tec, I as well as everyone else are very grateful to you for keeping us informed on Tec :-) <3

I'm glad to hear all went well with the op and hope they keep Tec as pain free as possible, the next few days will be a worry and I'm praying for Tec's full recovery and looking forward to the day when he is able to come back on here and speak to us all again.
I hope the Duchess is coping well with all that is going on and that she is being well looked after in the care home.

~~~~~~~ to everyone on here and hope you are all coping with thing's <3 <3 <3
