Has anyone heard of the virus TrojanWin32AgentAZSY?

My friend had a pop-up message "your computer has a virus" and he clicked on it - THAT put the virus into his computer.

He learned from enquiries that there is no known 'fix' at this stage and it was suggested that he 'clean out his computer and start again'. What does this mean? Can anyone explain this in simple terms?

I have the Shield deluxe anti virus software it gets rid of all and any Trojans. If you enter in Google the best anti virus it comes out top and has done for ages now.

There technical bods (if you should need them) free are brilliant.

Good luck
Pat

Should add they also do packages for more than one computer i.e. if you have a laptop as well.

Thanks for the replies. I have used Spybot myself and may use it on his. Yes, that's how it happened. He got a pop-up in the lower r.h. corner saying he had a virus and clicked on it to see - and has learned that clicking on it was what started it - and of course, it was an advert for their product. Only in recent months, he loaded the latest Norton 360 and when he ran it, it told him the virus had been there but was gone. Didn't make his computer behave any better though.

I will look at that one on the Internet and see what I can do (and I'll be making sure he 'blocks' pop-ups in future!

One suggestion from Dell was that he 'clean out' his computer and start again. Anyone know what that involves? He doesn't have anything saved or any new systems other than Norton. This is his first computer and he is quite a novice.

I will go there tomorrow and see for myself. I haven't done any reformatting since the days when we just had to type format C:/s. I guess times have changed, but I know he has kept everything in the original box, so I will go through it myself. Thanks MGHS for suggesting a pm - I might need to take up the offer.

Hi everyone, I had this last night when i was trying to log into F.B, it took hours to sort it out and try to delete it, it was having none of it damn thing and it was blocking us from doing everything. Eventually My Hubby played around about a bit and managed to download an anti virus programme that was free, but it took some sorting.

I agree that it is just a con trying to get you to buy their programme.

You could try Malwarebytes, it's a free program that our computer guy used to get a good clean-out.

Tried that one too Brian but it still wouldn't delete it, normally that is the one we would use but alas it beat that too.

Well, I had a look at his computer and feel satisfied that his Norton 360 has found and removed the virus.

However, the initial screen which flashes on stating that a "virus has been detected" (the bogus one) still remains and flashes on every couple of minutes. It is so annoying that he has shut the computer down and won't use it until we can find a way of fixing it.

I found that if I ignore the bogus warning, I could log into this site and use it without a problem, until the warning flashed on again - most annoying!

My current problem is in looking at these "virus removal" instructions - how am I to know that they are not bogus too? Most of them recommend a product to buy or download. I have been unable to download Spybot because of this bogus screen interrupting it all the time.

I would like to completely clean out the computer and reformat - but I tried the old way of typing format C:/s but it didn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just an idea:-

If you want to get Spybot onto his computer can you download it onto yours (as "Save" instead of "Run"), copy it onto a memory stuck and run it from there on his computer?

Thank you both. You have given me good ideas. He was told by Dell that this virus was launched on 9th August, but from what I have seen on the internet, it has been around for a lot longer than that, and I was trying to do System Restore back to 1st August. He may have picked it up earlier than that!

I will try again. Thanks to both of you.

Just a follow up to let you know that my friend tried to use his computer on Friday and the interruptions were so bad, that he shut it down again and left it until we could find a way of 'fixing' it.

He didn't switch it on again until Sunday morning. Having calmed himself down, he watched it boot up and as it was booting, his Norton 360 flashed a message on the screen to say it had located a trojan FAKAAVALERT and that it had removed it.????.....Not only that, but his computer is back to what it was initially and is working perectly with no problems at all.!!

I still have no idea what he or I, or Norton did - but it's fixed!
