I just had a thought.

My ancestor was in the Royal Marines and stationed at Forton. It was his wife and children who sadly died.

Would they be likely to be buried in a Naval cemetary somewhere in the area or is that normally for service men only? Is there one in the area does anybody know?

Glen, I don't know if it would be any good you contacting the Hampshire RO at Winchester. I did this when I wanted to find out where a relative was buried. They need to know the name, date of death and actual place of death, I found them very helpful. I e mailed them.

I was going to say Ann's Hill, my Gt grandfather was buried there, he died in Gosport. The other possibility is, if they went to church in Alverstoke, there is a graveyard at the Parish Church there.

I asked the same question a few years ago on
[email protected]

and the suggestion was Anns Hill cemetery

http://www.gosport.gov.uk/sections/your-council/council-services/leisure--amenities/anns-hill-cemetery/

The staff there were very helpful doing searches for me.

Hi All,

Several of my ancestors died in Forton, Hampshire between 1858 and 1874.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to where they may be buried??
I'd like to try and find a grave/memorial if i can.

Many thanks,

Glen
