I give to the Dog's Trust when I can... also any charity that is specifically for Leukaemia, and Cancer Wales... oh, and Macmillan....

I will sponsor people occasionally, but yes, I have pulled my belt in... and I only give my unwanted clothes etc to The Shaw Trust.

I probably still give as much in pounds... but to fewer charities, lol

I sponsor 2 dogs through Dogs Trust and polar bears through WWF, I'll occasionally put money in the box if they're collecting outside our local supermarket for a cause in our area but I don't give to any of the others.

It makes me wonder just how much money some of these charities actually have when you see all the adverts on television and the amount of plastic sacks they bung through the letterbox, they surely have to be paid for or maybe I'm just a miserable old cynic

Best defence mechanism to door-stopping:

put on a ski mask and look threatening

or

open the door with a copy of the Watchtower

OH drops coins into collection boxes when he believes in the cause, especially childrens' hospices but other than MS Research we don't actually donate.

I do buy raffle tickets for RNIB though and always have from when Caroline lost her eyesight for three weeks initially and they were sooooooo helpful.

I have stopped, used to put something into charity boxes and those little envelopes you get posted through your door, and decided to support the local Hospice that cared for my Dad in his final days

Has anyone here scaled down the amount they give to charities in light of what's going on with the economy?.

I admit I've dropped down to supporting just one charity now .... the one that means the most to me only.......and have cancelled all charity direct debits and just give to the one remaining one when I feel able to.x
