You're welcome Daff. I know what you mean about the engine - I am a bit of a technophobe. I you have any questions about it let me know - I will be brave a talk to ex about it - see i he can explain it in more detail.

Hope it works for you

I had the same problem recently.with FTM 2008. Mine had been installed on a new computer which I blamed for the problem at first. My ex had a look at it and keyed the error message into google. That took him the the help section on ancestry and on there the problem was explained. The solution was to install a patch and there were hyperlinks there to download the patch. When he installed the patch FTM was able to see that I had an internet connection again!

I had to re-register my FTM with Ancestry (from the help tab on FTM) - it just wanted my username and password for ancestry.

Mine all works properly now. Hope this makes sense as I didn't actually do it myself - just watched and asked stupid questions while someone eldse did it!!

Good luck
Tina

Does the back-up facility run out after a certain length of time ?

I can't help as my FTM isn't registered so I have never used that short cut.

Yes, I go to Ancestry online via Explorer, but if I try to access my hard drive programme from the shortcut menu, it gets me in, and I can view everything, add to things etc etc manually... it just won't let me go into Ancestry online to search for new records, as it used to before... I am tearing my hair out here..... lolol!!

Have you tried logging on to Ancestry via explorer at the same time?

I don't really have the answer, because mine did the same thing...

I have Ancestry Tree Maker 2008.... and I was just getting to grips with it when I lost the research urge last summer.

Well, that urge has now returned... and I find that I can't do sommat that was really easy and straight forward before, lol

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I used to be able to go into a person on my tree, and then click on something and it would take me to the records of Ancestry online..... but it is now telling me that I have not connected to the internet, although I am online at the time... and won't search from the programme.... sorry if that sounds garbled!! Not very techno am I? *blushes*
