Tree Problems

As far as I know nothing has changed at GR for several months. As most people don't have too many problems it usually points to issues with individual pc's when pages won't load properly.

From personal experience I know that the GR tree needs quite a lot of space to load, which is why clearing your temp files often does the trick, especially if you have a old PC or are using an old browser. Another trick is to increase the amount of space allocated within your browser to the maximum it will support. This has completely solved the problem for a number of members that I have been in contact with.

Current browsers are IE8 or Firefox 3.5 If you have earlier versions consider upgrading.

The F5 tip clears any previous versions of the page still on your pc and sometimes does the trick too, although clearing your temp files out altogether will have the same effect. F5 may be useful if you have been having a tree browsing session which suddenly stops working.

Having too many cookies can also clog up your browser, but it is better to be selective when deleting these as you may find you have lost some of your preferences and passwords to your favourite sites.

I use a free program called Ccleaner which I usually run every day. It is surprising how much dross this clears out each time you run it.

It also has a facility to preserve the cookies for your favourite sites. Having installed the program you just go to Options Cookies and click on the ones you want to keep. Do this a few times before running the cleaner and you will build up a list of those to keep.

This is the reply I had this morning,it might help someone....lol

Dear Blue Moon

Thanks for your email. If you click on Family Tree the tree will open in a new window. You must make sure you allow pop-ups. You also need the latest version of Macromedia flash. This can be downloaded from here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If you still have problems viewing your tree then we do suggest you try lowering the settings on your anti-virus/internet security. We also suggest you try pressing control and F5 simultaneously. This will clear any cached pages your PC has stored. Hopefully this will then work for you.

The first view you see will be of the tree builder immediate family page. This is where you can add names. At the top of the page you will see the option to view the tree in other ways. We offer three other views - full tree, ancestors and descendants. Select the view you wish to see.

To search for a relation in your tree select fill in the details in the 'search' box at the top of the page. You can then enter the name of the relation you wish to view. In the search results click on the name and you will be taken to their place in your tree. You can also do this when viewing other member's trees too. You can search by forename and surname or just by surname only.

You can click on any name in your tree and view the details for each relation in full. It is not possible to make any changes to your tree on the tree viewer page. You can only do this on the tree builder/immediate family page.

You can view your full tree as large or small as you wish. To the left of the tree you will see a + and -. Move the slider up and down this to change the size of the tree.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Genes Reunited Support Team

I've been having problems since Monday,
I am unable to view my tree,
I can only get on to GR through the ZA web site,
Can't get on to the home page,
unable to send a message through normal channels,
I had to " Request Review " through one of my old threads to send them a message,
( they have now deleted that thread for me...lol)
no doubt when I get a reply it will be something wrong with my computer that is causing the problem....again,
last time it took weeks to get things put right.

This is all I am getting.........

Site Error
Your request can not be processed at the moment.

Please try again later

Check the FAQ section .........Return to the home page
