Perhaps if you called in at the local police station and explained you were at the scene, they may tell you if he is ok

Well done for trying to help.

However, advice given at a First Aid course once (in relation to CPR on a complete stranger) don’t try and find out how they are. If they didn’t survive, you’d feel guilty for not doing more. Although it goes against your instincts, its worth considering.

Assuming the Police have your address, they may want a statement, and you could ask then.

DET I have to disagree with NOT trying to help. I was a first aider for years and I would still attempt CPR until I am told to stop.

Yes, I know if the patient died I could be open to a law suit but FGS I wouldn't stand by and not try to save someone. How would you feel if it was your family member who was suffering and just being gawped at!

sueM, I quite agree with trying to help, I didn't say Don't.

What I was trying to get across was the feeling of guilt if you try to find out what happened once they got to Hospital and hadn't survived.

In the back of your mind, there would always be the thought of 'what else could I have done?', even if there was nothing you could have done.

And yes, I had been on a First Aid course purely because I had been first on the scene at minor street incidents and wanted to know the correct way to deal with things.

I apologise DET, that is not how I read your post.

Many years ago a young lad died in hospital after an RTA. There was nothing more that could be done for him (even by the fire officers). I didn't feel guilty just terribly sad for his family. At the inquest the driver who hit him was distraught, there was nothing he could have done to avoid hitting him.

The unease we might feel is nothing compared to the sorrow felt by the victim's family and, in that case, the driver.

I feel incredible sorry for a local driver.

Driving home on the dual carriageway, 2 lanes each side, poorly lit, in the early evening ( 8ish) a local 13 year old girl decided to dart cross the carriageway, and needless to say, dies.

Great Hoo ha about how unsafe the road is to cross, ( 100 yards down the road there is a road bridge....) How there should be a pedestian bridge etc etc Petitions going round, people standing outside the local supermarket with petition to sign etc

Not one person has expressed how they feel , like I do, for the driver. Yes he was doing 60 BUT he was on a dual carraigeway for heaven sake, perfectly straight peice of road.

NO blame has been place his way whasoever, yet not one person has expressed any thought about him and the anguish he must be going through.

We came along on the way home from me being discharged from hospital, just after a motorcycle accident. Was immediately out of the car and on my knees, checking he was alive. FROM THE LANGUAGE, YES! THOUGHT, WHAT arE YOU DOING, IN NO STATE TO DO ANYTHING, BUT WAS AT LEAST ABLE TO PREVENT OTHERS DOING THE WRONG THING before the ambulance came. Sorry for the capitals, finger slipped and no time to redo post.
