Two British ticketholders shared a massive £90 million jackpot in Friday night's Euromillions draw, Camelot said.
They scooped £45,570,835.50 each - the largest lottery prizes ever paid out in the UK.
A National Lottery spokeswoman said: "This is fantastic news. These two ticketholders have just banked the largest lottery prizes ever paid out in the country."

The spokeswoman added: "If either of the tickets belong to a single winner they will soar into the top spot on The National Lottery Rich List, trumping Glasgow postal worker Angela Kelly's £35.4 million win in August 2007.
"We have plenty of champagne on ice and are looking forward to welcoming the lucky ticketholders to the National Lottery millionaires' club."
The winning numbers were 19, 43, 45, 34 and 11. The Lucky Star numbers were 5 and 9.
From next week every Euromillions ticket will include the Millionaire Raffle game, where every week one UK player will win £1 million.
This month The National Lottery is celebrating its 15th anniversary.
Since the launch more than 2,300 millionaires have been created and more than £23 billion raised for good causes.

Jammy devils, hope it isn't someone already wealthy or someone who won't make good use of it and help charities etc
There have been some real idiots winning too much money, like Michael Carroll etc.

Oh Liz, I am so heartbroken that you didnt win it. I would love to have you come out here to visit me, and you could have brought some of the other nice GR members with you.

Better luck next time.

There you are Huia, haven't seen you lately. How I wish I had been one of the lucky ones, what I could do with that money, so many people and charities I would help out and could live the rest of my life in peace as well as do all the travelling I would love to do.
One day maybe.....

Claire, good luck love, I only got two numbers on one of my lines last night.
It's a rollover on Weds lottery as no one got the big one, going to be all of £11 million, I can remember when it was twice that almost on a Saturday with no rollover.

The new game for Euormillions starts next Friday, one seperate £million
prize every week but will cost an extra 50p so £2 instead of £1.50

Good luck folks

I understand that both winners have now come forward and are being verified.

We gave up the Lottery a few years ago in protest at the amount of money the Government was diverting to schemes that should have come out of general taxation - to say nothing of the hundreds of millions wasted on the Millenium Dome.

Anyway: what would I do with £45,000,000 anyway ? You'd be hard pushed to even spend the interest even at today's miserable rates and the Government would get most of it back eventually in Inheritance Tax.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 9 Nov 2009 02:17

I heard too that the winners have come forward, I hope both of the winners are worthy of it and will use it to do some good, it is far more than any one person needs altho I would, as I said before, be able to help so many people and good causes etc

For example, in Norwich there are some day centres for the elderly. One of them is where my Mum used to go for lunch one day a week - it got her out and she was picked up by an ambulance as were others so as they went round collecting the guests she saw areas she hadn't been to for a long time or never visited in the city and outskirts. The meal being cooked for her and the company and entertainment brightened her week, as it did all those who attended. She would have liked to have gone more often but too many people needed to go so only one day each.

Now this centre and others are possibly being closed down due to lack of funding and this new idea of transferring the funding to each person which will not provide the company etc as before.

I would happily have given some of the winnings to keep these places funded and opened more to enable the elderly to get out and not feel isolated at home.

Don't you think there should be a legal limit on how much can be won? I feel that these amounts are too much for one person to cope with.

Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 10 Nov 2009 05:58

Wouldn't it have been nicer if the amount had been divided up so there were lots of people winning £5million or even £2.5 million each.

Seems one ticket was purchased by a syndicate of management people and the other by a married couple in Newport. Now who do we know around there who hasn't been on the boards lately??????

O.h. knew a couple who lived there but not in touch any more

Deanna, course I am jealous, I am greeeeen!!!!!

Far too much for anyone to win. They should split the prizes up better than they do. That way I'd get a better chance of winning lol.
