You're not so easy to silence

With just a few days of consultation left now, Andy Burnham's attempt to 'close down . . . The debate and controversy over disability living allowance' seems to have been only a partial success.

As we explained in our last newsletter, Burnham gave an assurance that DLA for people aged under 65 was not going to form part of the funding for the National Care Service. Like many others, we pointed out that this means that DLA for people aged 65 and over, as well as AA, is still under threat. We urged people not to let this cunningly worded concession succeed in silencing them.

And you certainly didn't.

People have continued to sign the No 10 petition, which is now at number 6 on the Downing Street site with over 20,000 signatures.

Deanna,I don't think people over 65 can claim DLA. Doesn't it became Attendance Allowance then with different criteria?

I doubt they will stop it because, if they did, we carers would go back to work and leave the care of them all to the country and they could not afford that!

If we were getting DLA and Motability allowance before we reached 65 we carry on getting it. If applied for after 65 it is something else as you state Sharron.
My visitor has arrived, must go.

I agree it makes no sense at all , if you are disabled you need help whether under or over 65.
We need to keep this nudged as we want as many signatures as possible on the petition.

I'm in Scotland.......over 65 years old needing personal care get it free.

Do you mean DLA or DVLA?

If it's DLA is that not covered by attendance allowance? Sorry if it's not the same in England.

Suzanne it should be DLA. The government is trying to stop DLA/AA for over 65s, but they refuse to answer questions on what will happen to over 65s. They have kept it so quiet hoping to get it passed which is why we need as many people to sign the petition as poss.
