Update - friends need to 'get out of the house' so Sainsbury's for coffee this afternoon :-D :-D

YG Report 6 Jan 2013 11:30

Morning everyone.

Enjoy your outing this afternoon, DET.

Thanks for the bruised bum, LG!! That was not very ladylike of you :-D :-D You could have made sure there was a cushion for me to fall on first :-D :-D

DET, Nellie was, as we suspected, born to one of the sisters of my great grandfather. There is no trace of a marriage for her mother, so we do not know what happened to her, other than she died in Sheffield in 1945. Nellie moved in with her uncle and aunt and eventually married in 1913 under her rightful name of Nellie Ellis, although this hasn't been verified. I think the 'Smelt' transcription on the census was assumed. This has all been sourced by my rellies in Oz.

I am still not 100% convinced as I have Nellie Smelt on the 1911 census working in Doncaster as a below maid and there is also a marriage for her. There is no birth record for Nellie Smelt so at some point I will need to send for her marriage certificate to try and ascertain who her parents were.

I will get round to it at some point, but am just too busy at the moment to do any more research, so perhaps the brick wall remains for the time being as far as I am concerned. :-D

Good grief! Where is everybody? This poor thread slipped down to the bottom of page three!!! On the plus side, it does mean that people have been posting on other threads today.

How good to hear that Nellie has been reclaimed by her relatives. Some of them just niggle at you, don’t they?

It was quite funny how we met our friends. I chose a table with 4 seats so that it would be easier to talk, and hoped the elderly couple sitting in the adjacent settees reading their papers wouldn’t mind if we got a bit loud. When explaining to OH why we were sitting there instead of another pair of settees, the elderly lady lowered her paper and said…..Hello :-D

So glad I hadn’t talked about the ‘elderly couple’ to OH, especially as we are the same age and none of us can yet draw our OAP ;-)

We got thrown out of the café after 2 hours – they wanted to close up.

:-D :-D

Good morning everyone. We had a very busy weekend, with the little ones taking over yesterday. I am back to my Yoga classes this morning after the christmas break. I hope all is well wth you, I will catch up with your news later.

Morning Paula, and LG when she appears. The other 2 are busy earning a crust although Maz may pop in later.

Hope you enjoyed the little one’s company yesterday. You may well feel the need the Yoga just to relax after your hectic entertaining schedule.

What do I look like? Well, a long legged sylph-like blonde in her late 20’s with an Adonis of an OH. In my dreams! More like a harridan of advancing years with a few spare pounds tucked around her tum and a balding grey haired companion. ;-) :-D

You sound great to me DET.

Lovely day yesterday with the littles, and yes I was so looking forward to Yoga, I might put one of my CDs on later and have a session on my own.

I am still at home as I am locked in, OH has taken keys to the side gate. I can't use the fron door as we are waiting for a new door to be fitted, so I am locked in !!!! I am now trying to motivate my self to do something ;-)

I hope you have a good day............. :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 7 Jan 2013 10:08

Ah, wondered why you couldn't use the front door. Any chance he can pop home to let you out? It might be too late for Yoga, but at least you could get out for a walk!

Mine walked off with the keys for both cars once, and got a right earful over the phone. That particular day, he was 150 miles away making it rather impractical to drop them off. Sod's law that I had a dentist's appointment in another village that had to be cancelled.

Safety in Action - rescue the 'little woman' from a secure property! :-D :-D

If he can't come home straight away, he might be able to in the lunch break. Worth a try? ;-)

Evening everyone, it's been dark all day, don't think it ever got light.

DET, I took my decs down in stages, gave me a few days to get used to the bareness. It's all down now and back to normal.

Paula, your OH just locked you in to keep you safe........... those Health and Safety courses are working well for him. :-)

YG Report 7 Jan 2013 17:44

Evening all. Hope the dentist went well, LG and not too painful to both pocket and mouth!! :-(

Another hard day over! Just the start of a full week. Yuk!!

I had quite a relaxing weekend, apart from some ironing, which I did whilst watching Series 1 of Downton on dvd that I borrowed from a colleague. Series 2 is planned for this coming Sunday afternoon :-D :-D Then I must start thinking about painting these doors and stripping the bathroom. Oh joy!!

Fancy having to be thrown out of the cafe, DET!! You must have done some 'rabbiting' :-D

LaGooner Report 7 Jan 2013 17:55

Evening YG. Not too bad at dentist just a clean and polish. I have the dvd's of Downtown (both sets) but still not watched them. Oh bought first one for me Xmas 2011 and the other one this Xmas. When I get a minute I will view them. Just looked in quick before jumping in the shower to get ready to go to the local Historical Society meeting. Very cheerful tonight, all about cemeteries, graveyards and the Victorians :-D

Mazfromnorf Report 7 Jan 2013 18:21

evening not a bad shift ,was interesting for a while as a stray horse was struck by the local train opposite the block of flats where i work so well YG you guessed plenty of eye candy around sad for the horse but there were no other injuries .so there will be a purge on loose stray horses again now .
so a few extra cups of cocoa all curtains closed and they settled down
They all have their own flats and live supported independantly so once they are tucked in they just use the phone and we have to risk assess the situation before we leave the staff flat or call for back up .

Here! All be it briefly. :-)

'Chaotic' is asking for fashion photos of when we were 20 or there abouts for her daughter's college assignment. So I've just been uploading one.

Sounds a good shift Maz, and a really wonderful way to provide support for vulnerable adults.
PC got so ingrossed in her book last night, that she forget to grab a nap. She's got tonight and tomorrow off then is back to daylight (Huh!) shifts for a while.

LG - Hope you get a discount for your 3 monthly dental checks LG. At least there wasn't any serious work to do this time. Enjoy your ghouls and ghostie meeting

Sunday opening, Pauline. Sunday opening so they shut at 4. We probably had another 2 hours of Yak left in us :-D

Deep breath YG. Only 4 more getting up days until the weekend.

YG

YG Report 7 Jan 2013 22:22

:-P :-P :-P to coffee Never touch the stuff :-D :-D :-D :-D

My day hasn't been bad, thanks, LG. It could have been a lot worse. One of the team went home sick, so I hope it's not catching :-| :-|

At the moment it is still reasonably peaceful, with people only just getting back from leave. The announcement that we are waiting for has been put back as they apparently haven't finished the restructuring, so we wait with baited breath for a new date!
