YG Report 16 Jan 2013 18:15

Evening all.

It looks very pretty round here, more like a hoar frost on the trees, but goodness me, is it cold or brrrrrrrrr cold!!!!! :-P :-P

I have had a text today from a friend that hasn't contacted me for over a year. She bought a villa in Turkey, so I assumed that perhaps she had been spending quite a bit of time over there and was right. She is staying for most of this year and has invited me over if I want to go. Will have to see what the finances are like when I have finished the work in the bungalow. and if I can fly from my home town, I might well consider it. :-D :-D

DET, it won't be cakes they need, it will be new jobs!! I have given my friend a couple of leads this afternoon, so we will have to wait and see now. The letters didn't go out last night as expected, but maybe they will be told tomorrow. :-( :-(

sounds lovely YG you should go it would do you good
you notice how much nattering gets done while we are away lol ,the throne is covered in chocolate wrappers tut tut ,well i am just starting the chores its freezing here
Two years ago i managed to get some snow boots at the end of the long cold spell as it improved i never got any wear from them so when i turned up at work in them they all laughed but today they have all clung on to me as we have gone out and they are brilliant non slip totally what a bargain they were ..

YG

YG Report 16 Jan 2013 18:27

The boots sound good, Maz. Are they still available, and if so, where from?? I am always terrified of slipping since I broke my wrist!

Mazfromnorf

Mazfromnorf Report 16 Jan 2013 18:29

Evening - just shows them they shouldn't laugh doesn't it? If they are the clients, its slightly different. I'm like YG, scared of slipping and jarring my back. Snow grips are at the ready!

YG, does your friend know for certain that she is one of those due to be given the chop, or is just presuming? I did wonder if certain people would be late in today because they were waiting for the post.

Glad you enjoyed the film Paula. BM (Beta male- OH likes to think he is Alpha male) looked at ticket prices for the West End stage show. They start at £39 for 'The Gods' with seats with a reasonable view at about £59. That's one heck of a price to pay, but they must have people willing to cough up. A cinema seat is much cheaper. ;-)
Enjoy your evening meal out.

Evening DET.

No, she doesn't know for certain, but it is a very sound educated guess. If not in this phase, then definitely in the next. She is the HR Manager, but has been kept totally out of the loop and has had to supply a list of every employee so that there is no give away of who might be affected. It is directed at management which is why she is sure that we are ok in our dept.

There is so much talk now from government to form partnerships and cut costs and the feeling is that much of the work will be either partnered or outsourced. I will probably be able to tell you more after the meeting tomorrow.

LaGooner Report 16 Jan 2013 21:46

Evening all, freezing fog here. I am certainly glad I did not go out after Brownies. I had a courtesy invitation to a meeting of the committee I am joining in April but decided against it.

YG

YG Report 16 Jan 2013 22:12

Very sensible too, LG. The fog was freezing here this morning and is forecast again overnight. No fun at all. All I want to do is stay indoors where it is warm. :-D :-D

Good morning everyone. I am home today so lots of little chores to catch up on, I really don't mind chores, excluding the dreaded ironing! I listen to radio (4) and the time whizzes by. We went out last night and it was possibly the coldest I can remember for a long time. I hope you are all warm, take care if you are going out......... Weather forecast says heavy snow tomorrow and over the weekend might just mess up our plans for the weekend. :-( :-(

Do you remember the little duck slipping on the ice in a TV advert sometime ago? It could be me!

@YG My OH has been under threat of redundancy since April last year, they have changed the date three times, and now it seems for some people (OH included) they will be moving the date again. I do wonder if those under threat should be entitled to retention pay. HR seems to be as much in the dark as anyone else, rumours and suppositions are rife, so many of OHs colleagues are going off with stress.

'Emma' Report 17 Jan 2013 10:23

Morning all from a very cold day here and like
others not looking forward to a blizzard like
week-end(if the forecasters have got it right)

Stay safe and warm all. :-)

Morning, just venturing out to get the newspapers and that's me done for outings today. ;-)

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 17 Jan 2013 12:23

Afternoon - just! Today is a 2 session of work day, so off out again soon.

We really aren't sure what's happening to us and snow. It seems we are on the eastern edge of todays front.
So that means that in the last week we've been on the southern edge, the western edge and now the eastern edge! :-D
The metoffice site is saying to expect snowfall Friday through to Saturday, but who knows?

For those with more concrete forecasts, take care if you have to go out and pray that you can still get done what you have planned.

PollyinBrum Report 17 Jan 2013 13:15

Dear DET, Be careful you don't go over the edge. Take care :-D :-D
