Good morning to those not otherwise engaged.

Paula, no need to worry that we'll fall off an edge - if we drive 20 miles south later today, we'll probably bump into a northern one ;-)
If' I've worked it out properly, we could expect 2cm - 5cm which is nothing to worry about. Hardly worth getting the shovels out. We might even go out for lunch!!!!!

Hope others have as little to inconvenience them as well.

morning all am sick of looking at snow news and all that jargon
well it is cold here we had a dusting yesterday froggy has loads of snow but he likes boasting lol and he is half way up a hillside ,
with all the fuss about it I am going to the food shop today ,i have the dentist early afternoon also but like DET i think we will miss most of it here ,it is then the ice that is the issue

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 18 Jan 2013 09:10

Morning Maz - hope the dentist is pain free, both in your pocket and your mouth!

Strange how attitudes to snow have changed over the years. When we were young, our parents just got on with it. I think our attitudes have changed since 1986 (in the SE at least) when we had a 'dump' in our area of about 3 foot. There is now a cultural heritage and fear of 'what might be'.

Disclaimer - of course, some areas of the UK frequently have heavy annual snowfalls, which are accepted as the norm and planned for!

when we lived in germany we just got on with the snow too DET it did not stop anything we all wore the right clothing we had to clear all our pavements by 8am in the morning ,but that was a good thing i think

Well, well, well.
It's just started to snow with that fine stuff, 5 hours before expected. If it were rain, you'd say it was drizzling.

I bought a down filled (mans) anorak years ago. It get dragged out when it's really cold and keeps me warm and snuggly. Never botherd with ski type trousers, although there might be a pair of salopeds (sp?) in the loft which BM left behind. Or did they go to the Charity shop?

We forgot to unearth the wellie boots yesterday - that's one thing on the must-do list for today.

Good morning all. I awoke this morning to find the snow was not as bad as the forecast, however it is now snowing rather fast, but looking at the news on TV not as bad as many areas. Katie the cat would not go out, so I gently pushed her through the cat flap, and she was back in before I stood up. I agree about our experiences when we were younger, my school never closed, and I walked to work back in 1963 a journey that took two buses we wee made of stronger stuff back then. Not much happening here today, I might decide to cook a curry for dinner, all plans for the weekend are on hold at the moment. Maz I hope your visit to the dentist goes OK, keep smiling.
:-D

Morning Paula - it does sound like a day to have a warming meal ready for this evening :-)

I was still at Primary School in 1963, and as you said walked. The Traunt officer said that we had fewer absences than the nearest town. One of my friends was brought to school on her father's tractor! She gets very cross with people who use 4 x 4's but have no confidence in the snow as she was used to bombing around in an agricultural landrover :-D

Once I got to secondary school, if I went home because the coach hadn't turned up, my mum used to pack me back off out to catch the ordinary bus. The school had to a lay on the coach for me and about 5 other people with 'mean' parents to get us home at the end of the day!

Evening all. It's bloomin 'orrible here. Only thing I have about living in a village is that side roads are treacherous. Waltzed across my road as I came back from delivering mini Gooner home. Fortunately nothing coming the other way so no harm done as it could have been dodgy as I went full circle and a bit. I am now in for the evening and staying in :-|
