Afternoon everyone.

CT, I hate cleaning the oven. I use Mr M and a brillo pad. Works well, but have also used the one that Maz and DET mentioned.

A lovely morning, but it has clouded over and there have been a few spots of rain.. but the wind is getting up again so it's a bit chilly to be out there gardening. At least I got all the washing dry this morning. :-) :-)

The bathroom is now finished with cupboard doors fitted. I just need the prodigal son to come with his drill and fit the accessories and blind. Goodness knows when that will be :-D :-D I daren't let myself loose with a drill or goodness knows what mischief I will get up to :-D :-D :-D

Good to hear that PC is pleased with her flat. She will soon be settled in. You need to get a move on with those curtains for her now :-D :-D Mothers always come in useful for something :-D :-D

Hi Maz.

I agree with you about the soap powder. I was told years ago to soak the shelves in the bath in hot water and Pers*l. Works well.

Lovely that you were able to meet Froggy and have tunch/tea together :-) :-)

Evening all, :-D :-D :-D :-D.DET the papers are all kept in an Archive Office. I have no room for all my papers here let alone storing the Society's.

Hoping the weather improves tomorrow as I would like to be out and about a bit to keep my sanity.

Morning Maz.

The sun is trying to shine here and I think it will be reasonable until later this afternoon when rain is due to spread in from the west.

I was planning on going to town today, but whether I will get there is another matter!! :-D :-D

~~~ to all.
Poor CT. A low t’internet speed is so frustrating isn’t it? Hope you weren’t reliant on on-line banking!
We are planning to meet in London on Thurs 9 May. Were you interested in joining us? Although last time we sat down numerous times for coffee etc, we spent most of the time walking around sightseeing.
I’ve heard about soaking oven racks in the bath before, but I don’t think OH would appreciate that! Because of all the warnings on the packet, I’ve still not got around to using it. It would appear to suggest that it’s better for them to soak outside, but the weather hasn’t exactly been conducive.
Congrats for having finished off the bathroom YG. Now you can put the paint brushes away for a few months and give your shoulder a rest.
Not really sure what to do about PC’s windows. They are only about 2 to 3 ft wide, but very tall because of the high ceilings and is going to need a ladder to hang them. Ideally, she needs black out lining but even without, the ‘open’ curtains are going to cut out a lot of the day light.
Although it’s sunny at the moment, the trees are whipping around in the wind. That does tend to add to the chill factor. At least it is a lot milder!
my oven racks fit in my oblong kitchen bin i have done the bath too but not for long
YG Report 14 Apr 2013 10:37
Morning DET.
You are going to have a lot of fabric to deal with there if you need ladders! I don't envy you having to make them.
I think the gardening season is now going to replace the paint brushes!! No rest for the wicked, they say, but the shoulder is much improved since having the injection :-D :-D What I lack at the moment is the motivation to go out and do it :-D :-D
+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Apr 2013 10:39
That would explain it then :-D
They don't fit in the sink and apart from the bath, the only other receptacle I can think of is the wheel barrow. :-0
YG Report 14 Apr 2013 11:10
You could put a black refuse sack on the ground outside and lay the bag on that DET. I still prefer Mr M and a bit of elbow grease on the shelves, but mine don't get too dirty nowadays.
+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Apr 2013 11:34
If we did ours regularly, they wouldn’t be so bad!
Been pondering the curtain conundrum. The curtain rail is in the window aperture, but I don’t think there is room to put it above the window frame on the wall so that they can be drawn back to clear the window. If we volunteered to pay for roller blinds, do you think that might work (if they aren’t too expensive!) ?
YG
YG Report 14 Apr 2013 13:36
In the flat where I lived before moving here, there was a bay window. The curtain rail was on the wall so that they drew straight across. The bay was fitted with roman blinds, one in each of the three sections and it worked well. If PC's window is a standard window then a blind would work well, be it a roller blind or roman blind. You can buy them to the nearest size and trim down if your OH is handy at diy, or have them made to measure.
Or, perhaps an alternative would be a vertical blind. I had one made to measure for the lounge because the window is recessed and it is 8ft wide. Cost me around £59. The one I have just received for the bathroom was about £35 for for a 4ft window. If you want the address of the website let me know. Very efficient service and delivered in less than a week. No trimming, all you have to do is drill the holes for the clips that the header rail sits in, hang the slats and fit the chains. You can get the slats made in blackout fabric if you require it. :-) :-)
evening its all diy and home improvments on here i am on the sleep tonight and its so quiet i hope it does stay that way though .
I have been getting roller blinds this time for my window on the landing and its a hessian type of material i am very pleased with it and i am considering getting more for the other windows as it lets some light in to allow it to keep the room cool in the summer without making it look too dark .Froggy is fitting them and is good at DIY
well the black cats have done it this afternoon in the local derby the magpies were stuffed .So A will be chuffed though i wont see him until tomorrow
+++DetEcTive+++ Report 15 Apr 2013 09:54
Morning all.
Hope that Maz' night shift was quiet and that you managed to get some sleep.
PC has informed us that she has managed to find a pair of cheap long curtains. Although they are too wide for the windows, they are going to fold each in half and sandwich black-out lining between the layers with iron-on tape. Sounds a bit Heath Robinson and I doubt if they will be able to 'pull them back', but if they are happy? OH will have to take the step ladder round when they are ready.
With all this talk of roller blinds, I beginning to toy with the idea of one for our landing window - not for privacy but to help keep the upstairs cool or warm depending on the season. The windowsill is at nose height at one end, and above head height at the other as the stairs have 2 x 90 degree angle turns.
