Maz, you need to practice your aim!! It landed right in the middle of the lounge window :-D :-D :-D I scraped up the remains, though, and it tasted good. The cat licked up the gravy :-D :-D :-D

I like your style, DET ;-) ;-) :-D Keep your purse under wraps :-D :-D

I don't need an excuse not to do anything at the moment, Maz. I don't know what the matter is with me. I have never known me be so lethargic about getting jobs done. Being off work with all the time in the world doesn't seem to be agreeing with me this time round :-D :-D

Been out for a lovely meal with my friend. She starts her new job tomorrow, so hoping everything goes well for her.

I have a meeting with the builders tomorrow about the work that is starting soon, so have to be up and organised in the morning.

Just relaxing for half an hour before bed :-) :-)

Morning all –

YG - Now you’ve experienced the stay-at-home lethargy, you know why we don’t get much done. There’s always tomorrow……and tomorrow…..and tomorrow!
We sat down together and wrote a list. 13 big jobs in all. Yuk!

Glad you enjoyed your meal out with your friend. And you still had room for Maz’ Roast beef????
Was it just your kitchen that was being replaced? Apart from the upheaval, it shouldn’t take you too long to redecorate if that isn’t included. Depending on the anticipated time scale, you’ll have to live on take-aways. :-D

Maz – if the grass isn’t too wet, can you set the blades on ‘high’ then go over it again when its dried out a bit more?
Although we don’t do all that much gardening, we managed to almost fill our garden waste bin this last fortnight….but still had room for most of the neighbour’s trimmings after we’d squashed it down. A friend gets her OH to stand in it. Mine was not impressed.

CT – I’ve got fat clothes and thin clothes. The thin clothes are in an old suitcase. :-(

Morning DET.

I am having a new bathroom suite and shower, a complete new fitted kitchen, re-wiring and damp proofing, plus possibly some roof work done. The estimate is four weeks. If they do the same as they did with Steptoe's, they replaster the kitchen and bathroom and emulsion them and lay new flooring. It's the re-wiring that's worrying me. I don't know yet how much is required and if they have to do too much in the lounge, it will damage the new wallpaper!! I don't fancy paying out another £400+ to get it re-papered again :-( :-(

They will leave the cooker connected for me, although it might be in the middle of the kitchen floor with the sink!!!

I am just off to get ready now to go to the meeting, so hopefully I may know more when I get back :-D :-D

Apologies to Maz first of all - I meant it wouldn't be a proper meet, rather than a proper Sunday lunch! Thanks for the beef and yorkies, they were delicious!

I think your decorating should be OK YG if it's just a re-wire, however in order to get an electrical certificate at my Dad's we had to have the plug sockets raised and the switches lowered. We've just patched in paper around them though. Do you have any leftover paper just in case?

I wouldn't have a clue where to start using a map and compass Det! You getting a pedometer reminded me about when years ago when I bought cyber pets for the girls. The pets had to be fed, changed, exercised etc. Eldest daughter was running upstairs, round the bedrooms, downstairs, back upstairs ... while she was running around upstairs I borrowed youngest daughter's pet - shook it up and down - sure enough the counter went up. I didn't let on ;-)

Grass is cut large spots of rain have appeared am going to have a quick coffee before anything else .a spot of weeding is needed though and i have a few plants to go in .nothing fancy just some chives as they grow well and make a good display here they are also cheap if you get them in the veg section also a rosemary plant too

YG

YG Report 12 Aug 2013 11:17

Well, I'm back and the good news is that a rewire is not required, except in the kitchen and bathroom which are going to be ripped out anyway. So no disturbance of the wallpaper in the lounge, bedroom and halls.

They will be painting the kitchen and bathroom when they have finished and as I wasn't sure of colour, I have opted for white for the time being. I may ask the builders if I can provide my own paint for them to put if I decide what colour I actually want. Apparently tea, coffee and cakes may well do the trick, although the lady suspects that plenty more has been offered to the builders in the past :-D :-D :-D We had a good laugh at that :-D :-D :-D

Well done with the gardening, Maz. I am considering going outside to do a bit, but black clouds are threatening.

CT, that was cheating!!! Shame on you :-D :-D :-D

CrystalTips Report 12 Aug 2013 11:56

Good news YG on the re-wire front! - I'm now wondering why you've recently had your hair and nails done ;-)

Well done Maz for getting the grass done, It's miserable here, been raining on and off since first thing. I did invite eRRol to do my grass last week in return for a cuppa, perhaps I should have had my hair and nails done and offered something stronger
;-)

Resigned myself to indoor jobs, have ironed OH's clothes and have just started on more of my summer clothes, even though they may soon be put back into squishy vac bags :-(

My contribution to yesterday's party was a couple of cheese and onion pies as well as a few other home made things. I did question myself - why was I making a pie in a way I'd not done it before, especially as it was to be consumed by strangers? Good feedback though "I know my cheese and onion pie and that was fantastic!" Which is a nice compliment, but I think I've made a rod for my own back in terms of any future buffets!

YG

YG Report 12 Aug 2013 11:59

Well done with the cheese pie, CT. If there is a portion left, would you mind sending it over on the laser please. I am feeling a bit peckish :-D :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 12 Aug 2013 12:06

Hope that all that rubbing down in the bathroom you did last winter doesn't have to be repeated!

As long as you supply the paint, I can't see any objection for them to use that instead of white. After all, wall paint, is paint, is paint!

Well done with the cheese and onion pies CT :-D

Think we'll go out this afternoon to buy a condolence card. Our line manager died at the weekend. She has been ill on and off for a couple of years, but this was totally unexpected. 3 days in hospital, and it being school summer holidays we didn't know that she was ill again. I'm more upset than when the neighbour and aunt died. I suppose because it was such a shock. :-0
She'll have to be repatriated from France where they have a holiday home (she's French, he isn't) before they can make funeral arrangements.

So sorry to hear about your line manager Det, and sorry if my posting seemed rather insensitive, I think we were cross posting at the time.

I understand it being a shock and you being more upset than when your aunt and neighbour died. Someone commented that my OH seemed more upset when a friend of ours died than when his sister died. It was the suddenness and the shock.

Again, so sorry to hear your sad news.

YG

YG Report 12 Aug 2013 12:56

Oh, DET, I am sorry to hear your news. I guess as she was still working that she wasn't old. What a shock for her family, particularly when they are away on holiday.

CT, I get an error every time I post. It has almost become second nature now to expect it. I have tried clearing out the cache, logging in again from googling GR rather than using my favourites bar, but nothing seems to stop it.

Just had a phone call to say the new lenses have arrived for my glasses, so am off into town for a quick visit to get them sorted.

Catch you both later I hope :-) :-)

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 12 Aug 2013 19:47

Thank you for understanding, and CT, don’t worry about it.

Annie was probably about 58 and had been diagnosed with a form of muscular dystrophy in her late teens. She was severely disabled because of this. She was a foreign language teacher when I first knew her about 20 years ago, but as the disease progressed, she retired from that and was given an office based job. She’s had an Aide for as long as I can remember. Professionally she still set foreign language exams to A level, marked them and took on translating when time allowed. She’d beaten Breast Cancer once (with no time off work despite chemotherapy) and was receiving treatment of one tablet a day for umpteen years when new cancer cells were discovered in the other breast at the beginning of this year.

In the last 2 years, she found that she couldn’t cope with having a cold and ended up in hospital twice for weeks at a time with a trachi., hence working from home.

She loved the warmth of France and the holiday home that they had built over the years. She and her husband who had also taken early retirement were going to spend as much of the year there as they could. All their dreams came to nothing.

Annie was a fighter. If the medics said that she couldn’t or shouldn’t do something, she did her darnedest to prove them wrong. Their much loved son is proof of that.

Sorry for rambling - just ignore me and carry on.

YG Report 12 Aug 2013 19:58

What profound inner strength your colleague must have had, DET, to overcome so much.

She is at peace now and out of pain, so you have to think about that if you can. I am sure she must have been an inspiration to many and I send my condolences to her family. <3 <3
