Morning all -

Well done Portsmouth Cemetery - it's not often that you get that sort of service! Depending on the time frame, have you considered CWGC, or do you already have a death reference?

We went for a walk yesterday, to see a Mausoleum/Folly. It's all fenced off with high security steel bars and nasty spikes on top. Not surprising as it is pretty isolated and can only be reached on foot (unless you have access to the padlock keys for the access road gates. It would be good if the NT custodians could arrange for it to be opened once a week during the summer months.

No chance of walking today - it's horrible outside.

Have a good one.

Morning everyone.

Thunder and lightning during the night. It woke me up with a bang :-D :-D The day seems to be trying to brighten up, so I may just get some washing done :-D :-D

I think I might just 'potter' this weekend and perhaps start some packing in the kitchen, which means I have to get the steps to reach into the loft for all the bubble wrap :-( :-( Oh well, if I break a leg I can have some time off work!!

On second thoughts, they would make sure I got into the office somehow, so perhaps not a good idea :-D :-D

I posted and then deleted because I lost half of my post and it didn't make any sense whatsoever. Luckily I'm used to copying and pasting before I submit because of the dreaded error message. Will try again in a short while

Afternoon! I thought the reply box had gone AWOL, but then I realised that I had been logged out yet again.

I don't envy your packing task YG!

We've only had light rain in the last hour, even though it forecast heavy rain all day. Apart from having the car brakes done this morning, I've been sorting out too. I wrote a list of all the music cassettes I'm throwing out (at least 100) just in case OH wants to rescue any of them for me to digitise and convert to MP3.

I listened to one cassette, with only one track on it - let me rewind a bit <<<<<<
My Dad loved Doris Day, and always (from at least 20 years before he died) said that he wanted one of her songs played at his funeral. When I was planning his funeral I chose Nat King Cole "Unforgettable" and listened tearfully to Doris Day songs, most of which I knew, but then heard "Time to Say Goodnight" Link if you don't know it, like I didn't:

Fast forward to today >>>>> the tape with one song on was "Time to Say Goodnight" which led me to believe that Dad had recorded it for it to be played at Mum's funeral, and I'm sad to say I can't remember if it was. 25 years ago, I was almost 9 months pregnant and in shock at the time. A bit weird if it was though.

I'm looking forward to the weekend, OH will get 2 days off at last so perhaps he will be less grumpy. I may put my rose tinted spectacles on and pretend that there is some eye candy doing my garden
:-D

Hi CT.

My ex husband loves Doris Day. He has idolised her for years. I adore Nat King Cole, but also like lots of different generations of music.

My father played the piano and organ, and in his younger days had a dance band. He used to transcribe music and was really very talented. I suppose I get my love of it from him. There is always music on here when the tv isn't on. In fact, I prefer the music!!

LaGooner Report 24 Aug 2013 18:47

Good evening all you lovely people. I prefer music to tv but I am not allowed to play my favourites when OH is about :-|. He has no taste ;-) :-D :-D :-D :-D.

Very wet here with torrential rain early afternoon. It has finally stopped now thank goodness

YG Report 24 Aug 2013 19:46

Evening LG :-) :-)

Raining here again and the sky looks awful :-( :-( I hope the thunder doesn't start again during the night. It sounded as though it was right overheard last night and I nearly fell out of bed :-D :-D :-D :-D

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 24 Aug 2013 19:52

Evening YG. It has just started here again and it looks so gloomy out there. Still one bonus I won't have to water the garden or top up the pond :-D

YG

YG Report 24 Aug 2013 19:56

No, that's true, LG. My garden has been desperate for a drink and although I do water it occasionally, I try to hold off as I have a water meter.

I bought a lovely dwarf conifer last year and it was fine up till about a month 3 weeks ago. Now it has died and it cost me £16 :-( :-( :-( Perhaps it just got too dry. I don't profess to know a lot about conifers as I am not that keen on them, but this one was really unusual and just fitted nicely where it was planted. I won't be buying another!!

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 24 Aug 2013 20:04

Oh dear poor conifer. I have planted quite a few drought loving plants such as Herbs and Lavender.

YG

YG Report 24 Aug 2013 20:34

My favourite in the garden at the moment is a huge hydrangea. It was here when I moved in and I found another smothered under some other plants. The largest one has been stunning this year and it is right outside the lounge window.

I have filled the borders with night scented stock again and it smells lovely. There aren't too many scented flowers around nowadays apart from roses and they are more trouble than they're worth with our peculiar weather.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 24 Aug 2013 20:45

I love the scented plants. I have 2 arches one with pink and a white jasmine. The other with a scented clematis and honeysuckle. Three different types of Honeysuckle in the main garden and loads of scented roses. We like sitting out in the corner where most of the scented plants are. I also have the herbs of course which when touched are wonderful

YG

YG Report 24 Aug 2013 21:08

I love jasmine and honeysuckle as well, LG. I didn't know that you can get a scented clematis.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 24 Aug 2013 21:19

I didn't realise it was scented until I planted it. It is a clematis Montana Ruben. Very rampant plant but it is beautiful. I also had the white version called Alba but I don't recall that having scent. My other great favourite is a huge spread of old fashioned Pinks that I grew from seed many years ago. They are right under our opening lounge window and in the evening the scent is really strong.
