Yoo Hoo! Wakey wakey those not at the Coal Face!

Its bright and sunny here at the moment, even though rain is forecast later. I'm even popped out to the car in my jim-jams to empty the boot (we're giving the neighbour a lift with suitcase to the Station).
The Rag and Bone man was passing & took some of the metal objects from the shed clear out. At least it saves us the bother of recyling them at the dump and earns him a few pennies ;-)

YG - the door to our understairs cupboard is on the gable end of the house, but outside. We have to empty everything out onto the side access path to get the chairs in at the back, then re-pack it. It's not a chore for wet weather!!

Added a lot later - the green tomatoes were lurking in the bottom of the freezer and were supposed to be added to stews/casseroles. Except I kept forgetting :-0

Good grief Maz - After that list, you need a good nap to recharge your batteries. With so much acheived and probably more planned, you can't run on empty. At least your broth will keep you going for a while longer.

YG Report 17 Sep 2013 19:44

Evening LG.

Please do not mention sleeping of the sofa because that's what I will be doing tonight :-( :-( I cannot believe what a mess the bedroom is in and there is no way I can get in the bed :-S :-S

>>>> sneaks in cos I'm not here

YG - take a photo and email it to your HA contact. Would they expect an older person to clear up after the workmen so they can go to bed? Didn't they put dust sheets down? When ever we've had work done in the house (admittedly not as extensive as yours) they've tidied up at the end of the day

YG Report 17 Sep 2013 20:02

I have to confess that it really upset me when I came home from work. I just sat and wept after I had tried to sort out how I could possibly get to bed, but no way.

They have damp proofed two walls and pushed the bed right up to the window against the radiator, pulled the carpet right back, but not rolled it. It is just folded in lumps with the underfelt and all the gripper rods laid on the top. The chest of drawers are pushed right up to it and although they have covered it with dust sheets and a top fibre cover, the dust bounces of the bedding when you touch it.

They are not working to the plans that are on the Job Board. This was supposed to be tomorrow and I was going to move the bed over to the other door in the corner opposite where they are working, but they have jumped the gun. The new bathroom is in but the cistern doesn't look straight to me (more like the leaning tower of Pisa) :-( :-(I am going to be phoning the foreman tomorrow to ask him to check it out.

The kitchen sink is in the middle of the floor resting on a wooden framework and propped up with the washing machine. At least they have put protective covers on top of the washer!! I don't mind that, I can cope but the bedroom is another matter. :-( :-(

Oh bloomin heck YG. Do as DET suggests and take a photo. That certainly is not acceptable at all they are supposed to clean up at the end of each day. I wish you were nearer I would find you a bed for the night somewhere in this madness and chaos of a house <3

Morning all - Don't you do enough of your own housework Maz? LOL

YG - OH said exactly the same as LG; if we lived nearer, we'd have offered you a bed. <3

Question - how do we persuade the widowed neighbour that we only offer to do something for her when we are happy to do so? She keeps giving, or trying to give, tokens of appreciation. When we took some of her garden rubbish to the dump (the hedge trimmings) she tried to give us petrol money. Sheesh.
Goodness knows what she'd have bought as 'payment' from when we collect her from the Station on Friday!

Morning.

DET I had the same trouble with my Mum in Law. She used to put cash in my pocket or Handbag when I did not notice. Easy answer I used to sneak it back into her handbag when she was not watching :-D :-D :-D. It became quite a game for us,one of the many little things that used to make me smile with her . Oh how I do still miss her <3

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 18 Sep 2013 11:21

We didn't mind the bottle of wine when we invited her to dinner
Or the opened bottle for using our garden waste bin (it was left over from the funeral, and she got a headache after one glass)
Or the small posy of flowers in a jam jar - they were part of an arrangement that would go unadmired while she's away.

It's the turning up at the door with her purse, or something she's brought back when she's been away, for keeping an eye on her house (from the outside, not as key-holders) !!!

YG

YG Report 18 Sep 2013 20:23

Evening everyone.

You've been a busy girl again, Maz! There is no rest for the wicked :-D :-D

Feeling a lot brighter tonight. The plastering has been done in the bedroom and they cleared up the bare floor, but still left the carpet as it was last night. There is just new skirting board to go on now, so I have had a good wipe round, laid the carpet back down as it doesn't touch the walls, vacuumed and turned the bed round, so I can have a good night's sleep tonight.

The kitchen wallpaper has been stripped and the first fix of electrical work in the kitchen starts tomorrow.

The workmen do normally clean up as they go (to a point!), but I was very cross at the way they left the bedroom.

DET, I think I am a bit like your neighbour. Each time R has been up to do jobs for me I have usually bought him a Deb's gift card. I was told off for it each time and he said he wouldn't do anything else, but he still does :-) :-) :-) I think we don't like people to think we take them for granted and are really appreciative of what they do for us.
