Morning Mersey and the rest of the Nutters.

Your missing rellies must be with mine - they probably lived such good lives that they were taken up to 'the other place' without going through the messy business of dying!

Just waiting for OH to get up - I'm not going to wake him as while he is asleep he is healing. He thought yesterday that he would be Ok today, but I won't push it. If we do go out, we'll have to decide in advance who will be the designated driver :-(

YG Report 6 Oct 2013 13:10

Afternoon everyone.

My day has been really thrown out of order!! I had just sat down for a late brekkie, still in my pjs, when my eldest gd turned up with her boyfriend and they have only just gone. What a lovely surprise and best of all that she wants me to confide in :-) :-) :-) :-) It's quite surprising what I have learned today :-D :-D

I hope your OH is feeling much better today DET and that you are able to get out and do something, even if you have to be the chauffeur for the day :-D :-D

A happy day to you too, Mersey :-D :-D <3 <3

Maz, the weather is good here too. Almost like the middle of summer again. What a shame I have to get the ironing board out. :-(

LG, enjoy your day whatever you get up to :-)

LaGooner Report 6 Oct 2013 17:40

That was a nice surprise YG. :-D :-D. We have just come in from the garden as we had some work to do in the pond before the Autumn sets in properly. Both got a bit grubby and smelly :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P. Just sorting the tea now before the Mini Gooners return so I will catch you all later when I sit down for Downtown no doubt. <3

YG Report 6 Oct 2013 18:19

Evening LG.

My ironing board has only just been put up so I won't be doing a lot of it tonight!! I got waylaid outside, trimming the pathway to the car and doing other bits inside. Just waiting for dinner to finish cooking then I am sitting down for the evening :-) :-)

Well done with the pond. I am soooooo pleased you didn't decide to drop in on me in that dirty, smelly state :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

late shift today ,not cold but dull at the moment ,

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 7 Oct 2013 10:16

Morning all -

We had a rude awakening this morning when the CH engineer hammered on the door - we've only just 'come to' but will probably end up napping later today!

The Cider and Apple fair was OK, but I'm glad we had discounted tickets. Unfortunately no free samples of Cider although we did buy a glass to drink while we wandered around.
The venue was a small 'petting' farm with buildings transported from other Kent sites. There were areas given over as a hopping garden with a static display of picking and hopper's accommodation from when they came down from London. Although I can't be sure, I think that my mum said that she and her immediate family were hoppers! There was also an orchard which preserved old varieties of apple stock - the harvest was available to purchase. We bought probably 3 kg for £1.50 all mixed up in carrier so we've no idea what is what! The appearence wouldn't be accepted by supermarkets even if they did have the quantity to sell commercially.

They were pressing some of them for apple juice - we're taking a bottle to PC's when we see them tonight - their first invitation to a sit down meal :-)

Have a good day - good luck YG for the lunch time meeting, and wishing Maz a peaceful shift at work

Evening everyone.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your visit to the Apple & Cider farm, DET, even though it wasn't all that you expected. Did you manage to get a nana nap this afternoon?

Evening all, Did you meet your workmen's rep today YG ???

I have just got back from the Historical society meeting. We had a really good talk on the Workhouses, very interesting and informative. Unfortunately she could not tell me why GGG Grandma ended up in there ;-) :-D :-D :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Oct 2013 10:03

Morning all -

Hope seeing N again goes without a hitch and that you are all on your best behavior ;-)

As one who has trawled through 20 years of a workhouse Admittance and Discharge books, the little snippets they give help to answer the why and when questions. Mind you, I never did find the initial 'When'! Mine seemed to use it as an OAP home, with entries saying the Master of the Workhouse had given him 'Leave' as if he were going on holiday for a couple of days :-D
There were some entries for children saying that they had been sent to Mrs X - olden day fostering?

Had to rush to the loo first thing. Fingers crossed it was a one-off :-(
