LG - I think its down to the costs of repair plus parts failing. At some point it becomes more cost-efficient to replace it. Ah, the days of our massive c1960's cast-iron freestanding one! Had it serviced once a year, cleaned out the flame jets ourselves with a little tool and it went on and on and on!

Added - morning Mersey - the green tea is over there >>>>

Morning all, or is it afternoon?

Slept late due to a disturbed night and now awaiting for the CH engineer to arrive.

I think it was too wet for frost last night - it was still raining when I got up in the early hours for a read and a drink.

Hope that tonight is peaceful for you Maz.

YG Report 4 Nov 2013 18:43

Evening everyone.

A heavy frost here this morning. Back to leaving 10 mins earlier to scrape the ice of the car and get it warmed up. Lovely >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NOT :-D :-D

I hope you have a restful shift, Maz and well done to A for hoovering. It just shows he can do, when he wants to!!

Hope you got your central heating sorted, DET. Not the time of year to start having problems :-( :-(

It's time your OH paid you a decent wage for all this paperwork, LG :-D :-D :-D

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Nov 2013 19:18

Poor YG having to face the frost again this autumn. As the leaves on the trees haven't really started to fall, it probably hasn't got cold enough darn suff yet. It used to be this week that I'd cut down the clematis as the foliage had died - this year its still quite green!

No - the CH guy didn't come. The part he'd ordered 2 weeks ago hasn't arrived :-|
Hopefully it will come by Thursday, his next booking. We are toasty and warm. If we have the CH on without the water heater, the water in the tank heats any way. Ditto the other way round!

Ever have one of those days? Go out just before 3 and get tangled up in Primary School traffic. Arrive at the appointment with 2 minutes to spare.
"There are 2 people in front of you. It won't be long"
20 minutes later......in and out in 3 minutes!
Drop off a prescription.
"There are a couple to fill before yours. About 15-20mis?"
Wander off, get my 'Free' waitrose coffee and sit in the car.
Go back to collect the prescription and STILL have to wait for 10 minutes!
Drive back an hour after starting out, this time getting snarled up with the Secondary school traffic!
Turn into our Close, and blow me, the garden refuse collection truck is parked in the middle of the road, so have to sit there while they complete the collections.

Its just as well I wasn't on a tight schedule!!! :-D

YG Report 4 Nov 2013 19:46

Thank you for the tea and biscuits, Mersey :-D :-D :-D <3 <3 I adore shortbread so the rest of the Nut Lodgers need to be a bit quick off the mark :-D :-D Love the moped, btw :-D :-D

DET, what a shambles for you. I have just done a MORI survey this teatime and one of the questions was about how you would feel if you had an appointment for a set time with 3 people waiting in front of you :-D :-D

It must be warmer darn suff, because the leaves have been falling off our trees for ages. My hawthorn hedge is almost bare now. I see that snow has been forecast in the Scottish highlands tonight :-0 :-0

Mazfromnorf Report 4 Nov 2013 22:12

LaGooner Report 4 Nov 2013 22:40

YG

YG Report 4 Nov 2013 22:55

Evening LG. Crumpets sound good to me!! Naughty, but nice, if dripping in butter :-D :-D

I am just off to bed! Rather late for me tonight, so can't stay :-D :-D

Sleep well, hopefully catch you tomorrow <3 <3
