Morning all

Maz, little & often will knock your garden into shape. Don’t knock your 30 mins :-D

The neighbour has finally seen the sense in ‘cutting back hard’. Her car got tangled up in a hedge :-D

LG, what are your plans for this morning? More gardening or catching up with indoor tasks?

~~~ David. Have you made arrangements to look at cars yet? Leave it too long & you’ll be ‘too old to drive’. Get a move on! ;-) :-D
Just finishing writing some letters and tidying around DET. First lot of laundry is almost done so that will go on the line soon. Up in the belfry later, what are you up to today
+++DetEcTive+++ Report 11 Jun 2018 09:46
Not sure, LG. Like you, I’ve some washing to do. Some of yesterday’s was left on the line overnight as it wasn’t dry.
We’d been out to the retail park to look at washing machines; we might go back to the Mall to have a 2nd look in JL. Technology has changed so much since we last replaced one. It’s so confusing!
LaGooner Report 11 Jun 2018 09:56
We bought a basic beko one years ago and it is still going strong. It deserves a medal as it copes with all the work oily stuff with no problem. My sil on the other hand bought an all singing and dancing one and it died after 6 months as did the replacement she had :-0
+++DetEcTive+++
+++DetEcTive+++ Report 11 Jun 2018 10:07
Which one did she have? That’s a good reason to avoid it. What Beko model do you have?
Some of them have ‘aps’ so you can control them via Wi-fi. That’s definitely off the list! I can’t get my head around the long programme time with one ‘quick’ wash of 15 mins. That doesn’t sound long enough to wash properly where as I’m not going to spend 2 1/2 hours waiting for a non boil wash to finish :-|
Bring back the hot & cold fill!
Then there’s the access to the filter. In a hard water area, we do get flakes of limescale breaking off in addition to the normal hair etc. There’s not enough room to get a container underneath to catch the sump water. :-P
The current Zanussi has lasted something like 20 years with only 2 breakdowns which were cheap to fix.
Unfortunately they are not made like they used to be :-(. I had a Hoover washer drier for many years when the kids were small. When it died I replaced it with the same but it was totally useless :-|. I was glad to part company with it ,nothing but bother and repairs.
Anyway must go and get on so I will catch you later I hope, have a good day and good luck with your search
We used to have a Hotpoint washing machine, tumble dryer and dish washer.
A guy used to come to our house once a year and service them, for a reasonable fee.
This annual service meant if anything went wrong (and it didn't) your appliance was
covered for repair due to the ongoing warranty. Can't imagine why they stopped it.
Evening everyone :-) :-) It has been another beautiful day, Too warm for me to go out and cut the side lawn as the heat takes it out of me. Maybe tomorrow as it is supposed to be cooler and breezy.
DET, I have all Hotpoint appliances, washing machine, dishwasher, cooker and fridge freezer. I did have the extended guarantee to begin with after the first 12months period expired, but didn't renew after that as I feel it is rather a 'rip off'. I can get an engineer out much cheaper than Hotpoint charge if I need one, but touch wood, Sweet Pea hasn't been near for a long time. I must admit that I don't tend to use the very long programmes. I have a fast 30min wash at 40 degs , and a 1hr wash at 60degs, other than that I tend to use the bedding and towels programme at 1hr 35mins and synthetics at roughly the same amount of time.
Its certainly warmed up nicely this afternoon, but was a little cool until the sun came round.
Thanks for your opinions on your own washing machines. We've been reading online reviews for the short list models. We've ruled out one because various people complained about it being noisy.There's not much to choose between the rest. Negative comments on all of them are about the long wash cycle. Save the planet but not your time! We're almost at the point of tossing a coin or making a lucky-dip!
YG
YG Report 11 Jun 2018 17:53
That's probably the best way to decide, DET :-D :-D The reviews always tie me up in knots and make decision making even harder, as there are always mixed reviews.
The problem nowadays is that companies keep buying others out! Hotpoint, Indesit and Whirlpool are all owned by one company. Back in the 80s I had a Servis washing machine, but they don't make them any more and it was a really good machine.
David Report 11 Jun 2018 18:09
The first washing machine I ever had was a Hotpoint twin tub which was small in both areas ie the washer and the dryer. It pumped out into the kitchen sink.
YG
YG Report 11 Jun 2018 18:12
They worked well though, David. My Mum had just the washer with an electric wringer on the top before she finally changed to a twin tub. What a pain having to hook the waste water pipe over the sink, especially if it slipped out :-D :-D :-D :-D
+++DetEcTive+++
+++DetEcTive+++ Report 11 Jun 2018 18:39
Do you remember your mothers having a manual mangle? Someone had to wind the handle while (preferably someone else) feeding the wet washing in! Mum did graduate to a twin tub. She'd have to lean or sit on the spinner if the load was uneven ;-)
Our first washing machine was a Keymatic from our Cornish friend's mother. She was upgrading hers. Our current one is a Zanussi washer/drier. We haven't used the drier much, but it was a good solution when I got fed up with wet washing hanging around. We might have had a Hotpoint at some point - its a long time since we changed one!
LaGooner Report 11 Jun 2018 19:19
Evening all, best not mention mangles near my OH, he got trapped in one as a child :-D :-D :-D.
It was really warm in the belfry today even with the fan on I was glad to get home as like YG it takes it out of me
