While stitching a cut on the hand of a 75 year old farmer, whose hand was caught in the squeeze gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to politicians and their role as our leaders.

The old cockie said, "Well, as I see it, most politicians are 'Post Turtles'.''

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.

The old farmer said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle."
The old farmer saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he's elevated beyond his ability to function, and you just wonder what kind of half-wit put him up there to begin with."
Best explanation of a politician I've ever heard!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 24 Jun 2018 18:34

Its certainly hot today. TBH, I spent much of it indoors. OH did call me to help put the glass back in the frame. We went round to BM & family late this afternoon for a coffee. OH has decided he has enough energy to cook dinner :-D

Maz - don't blame you for taking things easy.

How are your eye's LG after working in the garden? J has had to revert to glasses instead of contact lenses this last week as her eyes have been so itchy. :-0

Good joke, David. Its a bit like the Peter Principle - unwittingly promote a person to a position where he can no longer cope.

Its going to be even hotter tomorrow i gather so that will not be fun .
The flats have no outside space and with all the technology in it gets even warmer but i will get over it .
It is not often this warm here so i refuse to complain.

Evening everyone :-)

I was going to eat outside, but I needed to cool off, so have come in. I have spent most of the day in the garden with breaks indoors when I was too hot :-D :-D

Fur and I were in the park again this morning at 9.15 and it was lovely. The sun was shining and apart from a couple of people playing on the golf course and a couple with their dogs, I think everyone was still in bed so it was very quiet and peaceful. I took fur home about 12ish, stopped for a bacon sandwich with R, M & C for a catch up about the gig they went to at Wembley, then came home.

Just going to finish cooking dinner then relax for the evening.

I always wear glasses as you know DET and thanks to an early tablet they have not been too bad. Dinner is done and dusted so I am now sitting with my feet up

YG Report 24 Jun 2018 20:39

Dinner eaten here as well, LG

Feet up and relaxing, although I have had to close the windows as there is a rowdy crowd over at the pub and one of them has music belting out of his car in the car park. That has been going on in one form or another since mid afternoon. They had better shut up before I go to bed, or I won't be a happy bunny :-| Considering they have been there for a few hours now and drinking, I wouldn't imagine they will be in a fit state to drive home and I don't believe for one minute that they are drinking coke :-0

Inconsiderate b*****s. We have 3 kids over the back of our house that just scream constantly they are so annoying. I love hearing kids play but these are totally obnoxious just like their parents :-| :-| :-|.

YG Report 24 Jun 2018 21:04

There's nothing worse, LG :-( Luckily there aren't many round here, so there isn't normally a problem. The pub often caused a problem during the summer weekends, again through allowing them to drink outside and have music pounding from their vehicles, but it has been quiet for 3 or 4 years up till now/ I hope when the World Cup finished the noise will also end. I can't hear my own music in the garden or indoors :-0

I'll send a few pairs of ear plugs over for the summer holidays :-0 :-D

I'm off to have a shower now and then I hope I will be a bit more comfortable to settle down to sleep. It's going to be a stuffy one tonight :-0

Sleep well, LG. I'll hopefully catch you tomorrow evening :-) <3

I will have a shower in a little while too as I am somewhat grubby from the garden. Catch you tomorrow, sleep well <3

Nothing worse than noise when sitting out in the garden. When we lived in Clifton LG we had a neighbour whose window from his extension opened onto our patio. He was weird and used to open that window and deliberately play opera lously when he knew we were sitting out there.

Here we are quite lucky except some summer evenings after school, across the main road from us (the other side of the bungalow that backs onto us), is a council estate, some of the houses on the main road are now privately owned, one rather notorious large family has a couple of houses knocked into one. there are numerous children and some of the children's offspring living there. We actually don't have a big problem with them except when the children are playing there is one girl who screams all the time. (I assume she is being chased or something. don't know how old she is but this has happened the last three or four years, not heard her yet this year so fingers crossed she is older now and quieter.

Morning Ann, we don't have any bother except this lot. They moved in about a year and a half ago and this is the second summer with their noise. There are 3 kids the oldest must be about and youngest about 6. They are just left to run riot and the get outside and annoy somebody else brigade :-| :-| :-|

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 25 Jun 2018 09:39

Morning all

Playing opera? That’s a ‘bit different’! Did they think you’d be wanting to peer through their window or could they have been trying not to overhear your conversation?

Could the screaming child have special needs? You don’t mind occasional noises of fun, but it must get wearing if it’s every time they’re outside.

Our main noise is from passing traffic even though we aren’t directly on the main road. Thankfully it’s not too bad at night & less at the weekend.
Our neighbour takes his 3 girls into the back garden every weekday afternoon between 4 & 6, inventing games to get them to run around. We don’t mind the noise, but strangely it sounds much loud from the front. It must be echoing off the buildings. It’s the base noise from music from other people’s summer evening parties that annoys me, especially when they go on past midnight. They aren’t even in our road! Noise travels so far at night. At least they’re only a couple of times a year.

Not sure what we’ll be doing today apart from dropping off the prescriptions. It’s going to be another hot one!

Morning DET no they have not got special needs they are just 3 spoilt little brats, If they were special needs it would not bother me as I would make allowance for that obviously. One of my Grandson is Autistic so I make allowances for him bless his heart <3

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Jun 2018 10:51

No Det he was a really nasty person and his wife was odd as well. He was a bank manager so we assume really quite intelligent. One thing he did that he did actually have the police onto him was, he had an air rifle and he would give it to his 8 year old to carry in from the garden after he had shot at starlings (and cats). He caused one neighbours cat to have to be put to sleep. He hid the gun in the loft but it was found. When we drove into our drive his wife would stand in the kitchen and poke her tongue out. He would also park his car across the entrance to our drive deliberately. We were glad to move. He has moved from there now anyway.

The screaming child, no I don't think she is disabled, I am sure we'd know if she was, the family has been documented enough in the press. The screams are tose of a child being chased.

It is hot here, just walked round to the post office and watered the pots in the front garden and pulled up a few weeds along the path on the way in., now going to have a coffee
