AnninGlos Report 30 Jun 2018 22:40

We are with Severn Trent we have been asked not to use a hose or sprinkler on gardens and to only clean cars with a bucket. Very unusual for us but apparently there has been unprecedented water usage.

Morning Maz, Morning all, it seems a little cooler here so far this morning so I will make the most of it and do a few little jobs. Catch you all later and have a good day <3

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Jul 2018 09:56

Morning Maz and LG, still feels hot here although maybe showers later, hopefully enough to water the garden and do some good but not too much. Usually when we have a fine spell we then get constant rain. all or nothing.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 1 Jul 2018 10:03

Morning all

I see there’s a weather warning for thunderstorms in the SW. Are you covered by that, Ann? We’re half expecting a hosepipe ban. Apparently it’s not so much a shortage but because exceptional use is causing the pressure to drop. I’ve been watering the pots every other day but anything edible daily. The washing up water is also being used on the herbs & Beans.
The continuing heat could cause a shortage of lettuce as they stop growing at 30c. Spain is also having a heat wave. That's where a lot of our imported ones come from. All the more reason to keep our own ‘salad leaves’ crop going!

Maz, did you wish someone would have roast chicken for dinner? :-D

YG

YG Report 1 Jul 2018 10:38

Morning everyone :-)

What with the CO2 issue and the lack of rain causing problems with crops, we may have to put up with quite a few shortages.

Our water company hasn't issued any warnings yet as far as I am aware, but R said that he had noticed a drop in water pressure.

I had breakfast in the garden this morning in the shade and it was lovely. The only problem is that we are currently being invaded with thousands of very tiny flying beetles and although I try to wear something dark so they don't bother me too much, any light coloured laundry on the washing line is covered in them! I know that other towns in the area are also having problems with them. They don't bite fortunately :-D :-D

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 1 Jul 2018 11:35

R is on a new development, isn't he? That might be something to do with it. No doubt the neighbours, with their brand new lawns, aren't too keen on letting them go brown :-0

How horrible to have the flying insects. Has anyone given a suggestion for what's caused them?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Jul 2018 13:16

Det we have had a warning that we possibly could (or couldn't be affected later today but the weather people in this area didn't really seem to know for certain. so we could or may not!!!!

YG flying insects, even if harmless are a nuisance, they get everywhere and make you itch to think about it.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 1 Jul 2018 14:11

Everything seems so much fresher once there’s been some rain. For the sake of your garden, fingers crossed that you get a bit of it. Unless things change in the meantime, we’ve hot & sunny weather until at least next Saturday. You can sometimes have too much of a good thing!

YG

YG Report 1 Jul 2018 15:27

DET, most of R's neighbours do take good care of their gardens (as far as I know), although you can't see the backs as they are all fenced off. There is one immediately opposite R;s back garden that doesn't do anything to his back garden. Fortunately, R fitted additional slats to the fencing so you can't see through it unless you go right up to the fence and peek through the tiny slots. It is appalling and I don't think it has been cut in the 3 years since it was built. The front is fine as it is all block paved apart from a couple of narrow borders that were planted by landscapers when they houses were finished.

The washing and ironing is all done and I have just had a cooling off period before going back outside for some more sunshine :-D :-D I would welcome some rain as long as it knows when to disappear again:-D :-D

YG - how strange. Perhaps it was bought as investment & the tenants aren’t interested?

Poor Ann. Humidity is horrible. Let’s hope you do get a shower to freshen things up.

OH has had to lie down. We’ve booked a one week break in Barcelona for September. ;-) We decided to do the European wish list visits before Brexit just in case we do end up with planes grounded. It doesn’t look as if my Alhambra visit will take place, but hey ho.

Maz - give up with the grass. It'll recover naturally in time.

As Eldest lives close to Gatwick, we asked if we could park at her house
........
Good afternoon

Is this [ development name] Airport Parking Inc?

If so, do you had capacity for one vehicle dd Sep – dd Sep?
We were also wondering if it would be possible to reserve one room, bed only, for the night of dd Sep?

Kind Regards
Mr & Mrs DET
...........

Dear Mr and Mrs DET

Thank you for your enquiry, which was forward to us from our sister company [Development name] Airport Parking Inc.

I would be delighted to reserve for you, one car parking space between dd and dd September 2018.

Based on the your requirements I would suggest that our ‘Deluxe holiday package’ would suit you best. As well as the parking space, this includes one night’s stay in a dual occupancy king bedroom with own bathroom (quick dash a cross the landing), and airport drop off.

Your booking reference for future reference is 1-N33D-A-HOL1DAY

For a small additional charge of a bottle of plonk, a pre-holiday evening meal may also be provided.

Please advise if this would be of interest to you, and if so approximate time of arrival on dd Sep

We look forward to welcoming you.

Kind regards,

[Eldest]

Evening all, still bloomin hot here the thermometer outside is reading 30. Earlier it was reading 34 phew. I can't use my hose as I threw the old one out and dug our new one out of the shed and it had no tap attachment on it. Typical it was after store closing times :-| :-| :-|.

Most gardens around here are tidy except for the one that I look out on out of the bedroom window. It' s full of loads of toys that the youngest out grew about 6 years ago and the weeds and saplings are about 6 foot high and growing all around them. I pity their immediate neighbours whose garden is a battle to keep the weeds out of .

YG Report 1 Jul 2018 19:32

Evening LG :-)

It is lovely here now. White clouds appeared late afternoon that have reduced the heat somewhat.

I have showered so feel nice and fresh.

DET, that is very kind of the ''parking co' to even offer a meal :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
There's no wonder your OH has needed to lay down. It's not long since you came back from your other holiday ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

The house opposite is occupied by the owners. Flashy cars at the front, a disgrace at the back Fortunately it can't be seen even from R;s upstairs windows :-0 :-0

Ann, perhaps it would freshen up if you do get a storm. If it is hot and sultry it sounds as though something is 'on the cards' :-0

Sods law about the hose, but at least you can get the connector tomorrow.
