Interesting. The internet bar on the top of my screen keeps fading in and out as I type. Almost like I was losing the connection.

Well since I typed that I have defragmented the computer and switched on and off lots of options in the Internet Options thingy. Looks like I've hit the right button because I can now type and the typing stays on the screen.

Looks like I did not need to buy a new keyboard. Ho hum always good to have a spare. Never know when I'll need something to throw at OH.

Just made another connection to OHs family tree through A. Distant but still in the pot of rellies. I keep thinking the more I find the closer I get to the real live ones I'm searching for.

I was going to get my husband a new laptop yesterday but never got round to it........... the old one's working a bit better today after defragging it a couple of times.

He never thinks of putting scans on it or deleting cookies or anything........ I'm surprised it works at all.

YG Report 11 Jun 2011 20:41

No, Maz and LG, I am not running after them. I am too flippin' old!!!

Joining Maz's club and trying to put up with neighbours over the road who are having a birthday party. It started at lunchtime and the music has been belting out since then. A little quieter now, but they must have the bass turned up full cos all I can hear is boom,boom, boom!!

LaGooner Report 11 Jun 2011 20:47

That is where I am lucky. I have only one neighbour close to me and he and his 2 kids are soooooo quiet. I have had to suffer very noisy neighbours in the past though so I do sympathise <3

Evening all.

My, what a tale of woe overnight about keyboards and phone calls. Hope the PC continues to behave itself Auntie. Do you really think it was wise to give the old one to the CP? Before we know it we will all have new problems, not just LG
.Pauline, intending to buy OH a new LT? That's very generous of you!

Try SKYPE for long distance calls over your internet connection. You get the calls dirt cheap. OH's Aunt in NZ gets certain days of the year when she can phone anyone for free. So she phones OH's mum and has a good chin wag. Trouble is, she often gets the time difference wrong - and them up out of bed lol.

Got the message YG - thanks for the heads up. You can come and sit in our garden and listen to the fire engines go past anytime - lol

Went and had my hair tinted this morning with the fruits of my labours. It's a bit browner than I wanted, but it will tone down with washing. OH says it takes 20 years off me. If he's hoping I'll regain the energy of youth, he has another thing coming. :-P

Morning all, worked on fh into the wee small hours. Computer had one more hissy fit and is now behaving beautifully.

Right now I am washing the woollies, jumpers, jackets. I do them by hand because I don't like washing them in the machine. They still need a short spin to remove the bulk of the water or I will never get them dry.

No rain here only cold and frosty.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 11 Jun 2011 23:12

If it ain't machine washable, it don't get bought! And never wool - guaranteed to shrink even if it is hand washed. :-0

btw - who won? Or is that 'tonight'?

Same here DET, I always read the label, and if it says 'hand wash'.......... it goes back on the shelf.

By the way, it wasn't mmmy money I was going to use to buy the lappy........... I'm not that daft......... I just look it.

AuntySherlock Report 12 Jun 2011 00:04

Hi DET, Are you there. Probably in bed. If you are I have a question.

I am talking to someone with a tree on A. I can view her tree because it is Public. I have messages from her so I can click on the contact. However I can not make her tree appear when I search Public Member Trees using any of the people she has in her tree.

The tree is in need of pruning, and that is an understatement. Almost every person has been duplicated or even triplicated. What I believe has happened is that each time she finds an Ancestry hint she is ticking all the boxes and inputting the info back into her tree.

My question is what is the best way of correcting. I have asked her to download a Gedcom of the tree to her computer, just in case.
My thought is to delete the second or third copy of each person. This will mean some data will be lost. For example, Joe Bloggs entry 1 has his birth, JB entry 2 has his marriage, JB entry 3 has his death. If you delete entries 2 and 3 that data will need to be reinput.

I thought about asking Ancestry, but I noticed a warning about "not fixing duplications".

If we delete the duplications the system will then show the wavy leaves which will enable her to reinput the missing information without duplicating the person in the tree.

Your comments please.

BTW My team lost, but they played for two quarters this week, which is an improvement. Us Aussies have to buy wool, it keeps our nation prosperous - well it used to 50 years ago.

Morning all - Your meal sounds good Maz. I do brisket in a casserole dish, so the same principle really. We are off to Eldest&co for lunch, and to give the parental approval to their new rented abode. Not sure if BM +/- 1 will be there or if he is up in Bingley. PC is camping to celebrate her birthday - a quarter of a century - how I remember the day, lol. And she still gets ID'd in pubs! Did I tell you Eldest has found a job as well, starting in 2 weeks time?

Well done with the attic. We really ought to sort out our loft as it needs re-boarding, but it always to hot/cold or we have something more interesting to do :-0

Re the Ancestry tree. LG had this problem with her own tree. She edited the name and labelled the duplicates as JB (the one she wanted to keep) JB X, and could have done JB Y etc. Or could have put numbers as part of the name.

Your contact could open up Ancestry in different windows so s/he can check what records need to be found. Add them all to the JB s/he wants to keep, then when all is complete, delete JB X and JB Y.

Thank you DET. I did not think about opening additional copies of the program and comparing the information.

I have been on the computer all day. My eyes are all squinty and I have blown the fuse on my powerboard once through overloading it. Think I might have a rest for a couple of hours.
We have Her Maj's birthday holiday here tomorrow. So the general populace will have the day off. I'm hoping to spend sometime with dau, who by the way brought back my heater. Lovely warm thing it is.

Evening AS - what powerboard? The household one or your leetle grey cells? lol Glad the blonde one has returned the heater - us oldies need to keep warm, don't'cha know :-D

Enjoy the day off - hope OH is going to the offspring's as well. He must be feeling abandoned with all the time you've spent with her. Or is he worried he will get roped into 'doing something' lol

I had that problem with my Ancestry tree once and I did the same thing that DET has suggested. I altered the name of the extra person, attached all records to the person I wanted to keep (in the bit that says 'attach to another person') and then safely deleted the extra person.

Think I'll pop over to Maz for dinner!

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 12 Jun 2011 10:13

Maz's dinner does sound good, doesn't it? Wonder what Eldest has in store for us? She was making Cup Cakes yesterday ( as per FB status) so they may be on the menu. What ever happened to Fairy Cakes? Are they the same and the name changed by the PC brigade, or something completely different?

confused dot com.

Oh well, time to get ready. Have a good day. Catch you later.
