Maz I have sent you a PM, based on DET's job idea. I hope you understand my reason for not putting it on here.

Hi everyone. I am kn******* . I have over exerted myself at fitness today and made up for it by eating a largish quantity of confectionery. No, not chocolate. Energy out, energy in, that's my philosophy.

Work work was very boring but I did manage to get one and a bit jobs out of the way. The other bit is still scatttered all over my desk, along with the remains of the packet of confectionery.

My dear OH cooked tea tonight, like he always does. We had artichokes!! Never in all my life have I ever eaten an artichoke. I can never remember my mum cooking them. OH bought an artichoke, found my country women's cook book and followed the directions. He did exactly what the recipe said. Boil the artichoke for 30 minutes. Remember I have never even seen a boiled artichoke before.

Sorry for seeming ungrateful but after not being able to cut through the leaves, stuffing a quantity of them into my mouth and chewing for a very long time, I announced he had brought plastic artichokes. The remnants are now resting in the rubbish bin.

And, yes I did what every thoughtful, culinary conscious woman would do I raided my cookery book library and together we sat down and read how to prepare artichokes. What an awful lot of preparation for such a small amount of sustenance. I think I'll stick to my peas and mandarins.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 21 Jul 2011 14:19

Lol - the only artichokes I've had were out of a tin :-)

Having watched other people eat them in restaurants, I got the impression they were steamed. Then you pull off the leaves and only eat the white flesh at the bottom, until you get to the 'heart' (which is what was in the tin) Perhaps Maz will know from her NAAFI days, or YG when she was living the high life??

The dusting and hoovering continues - however, we shall have to pay a visit to our County town tomorrow; PC had left her new tax disc for her car on the mantelpiece. OH dusted said mantelpiece and it has fallen down a crack twixt the shelf and the wall :-0 At least it will only cost a little bit to replace it, at our expense, but we will have to go in person. :-(

artichokes lol yes you eat them leisurely with Hollandaise sauce poached eggs in them are nice but they are hitty miss you can get tough ones and you can cook them too long too
I have had lots of encouragement today The crossing patrols are all being cut and the breakfast club is volunteers .There may be another kitchen by september to go to but I am just going to keep applying and looking around

Well I've never cooked or eaten artichokes either. I had to Google them to see what bit could be eaten. Looks like a lot of bother for such a small amount that's edible.

What do they taste like?

It's been a beautiful day here, started off a bit cold so I went out with a sweater on........... felt a bit of an idiot when the sun started to crack the pavements.

I couldn't take the sweater off because I had nothing underneath it.

YG Report 21 Jul 2011 18:24

Pauline topless in the middle of town!!! I like it!!!! ;-) :-D :-D

Artichokes!! Never had them!! Not really a veggie person, although I do try to get some down me occassionally!! Although it is always the run of the mill boring stuff!! Don't like asparagus either!!

Six working days left and one of those is out of the office in Birmingham on Monday.

I am going to visit the Royal Mail and shoot the lot of them if they do not deliver the expected letter from the Pension Service, second time around. How many can they lose, fgs!! :-\ I will never get my holiday booked before Christmas at this rate!

Morning all. Aunty has an announcement. Currently, at this very moment it is 0 degrees C in our neck of the woods.

Zero, how much colder does it have to be before it snows. Yuk, yuk!!

Spot is hiding in the bedroom and OH had to go ask him if he wanted to go for a walk. Picture OH putting lead on Spot and dragging great lump of a dog out into the almost snow!!

Thanks for the expose on artichokes. You are all correct. Next time, if there is a next time, we will know what to do. Some how I don't fancy the effort involved.

Hope your furry feline is OK Maz. They are supposed to have nine lives, and a bit of pampering never did any harm.

I am off to work work again. Should be showering right now but the thought of undressing in this weather is not very appealing.

Pauline, remember if you put it on, you can always take it off. Well most of the time as you have found out.

Have you noticed the changes to the boards. If you click on a person's name and they are no longer contactable a message to that effect appears. Also when you click on Community on the green bar the whole boards menu with descriptions comes up.

Morning all - hope Aunty wrapped up warm for work work -if they are anything like most schools, the heating would have been turned off to save money!

Glad to hear that the puddy tat is feeling/looking better. it must have been worrying for you Maz.

Off out to the County Town re the car tax. PC had to fill in a form explaining the circumstances why the original was lost - looks a bit like those 'the dog ate my homework' excuses :-D

Catch you later

Glad it's not my rental property! The letting agents ought to black list the tenants names for the future.

If Smudge is well enough to fight, then he is certainly better - sounds just like that Ad for Calpol - lol
