Thanks for that reply which I will need to study.

My Father's people were from Noerthern Ireland,Antrim,so that looks like it's going to be difficult.

We're back! We went to a town associated with Charles Dickens to have a mooch around the museum, where OH had a long chat with a curator/guide about weapons, so he was a happy bunny. OH also spotted Philip Serrell who is one of the experts on 'Bargain Hunt'. He really must stop watching daytime TV!!

Then we went to a Maritime Museum but at £15.50 pp, declined to go in. I got really cross with the 'jobs worth' as he wouldn't let me use their loos - something about public liability insurance. What if it were a child? Would they appreciate a puddle in their entrance lobby?? :-( :-(

YG

YG Report 17 Aug 2011 22:03

Evening LG. I am 'not too bad', thank you. Still recovering from this cold, but getting there!!

Been buay browsing the web for a possible holiday, but not getting far yet!

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 17 Aug 2011 22:07

I hope you find a holiday soon. Where are you thinking of going?

YG

YG Report 17 Aug 2011 22:19

Well originally we were looking at Jersey, but i am still waiting for my deferred pension to arrive, so we may have to go in October, rather than September so need somewhere a little warmer!! We are thinking about Majorca or Menorca.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 17 Aug 2011 22:31

Hope you get something sorted YG - my BFF often goes away in the Oct half term - she has said that most of Majorca shuts down at the end of Sept, making it difficult to find alternative places to eat in during the evening or day. Pleasant weather during the day, but you need a jacket in the evening - think layers!

They seem to have settled of late, on the Canary Islands which are more of an all year round destination.

YG

YG Report 17 Aug 2011 22:35

Maybe we will have to take a look there then DET.

To be honest, Jersey would suit me whatever the temperature as we just want to relax for a week. I'm not into sitting on a beach all day as I like to go and see places, but some sun would suit the friend I am going with!

I'm sure we will find something, somewhere.

Hi David, Welcome back if you are a returning David. Greetings if you are a new David.

http://www.rootsireland.ie/

For your Irish rellies try this site. The cost to look at your finds is a bit high but I found it very useful for searching Tipperary.

Also this is Teresa's Irish site. Quite useful.

Hi everyone else. Squinty eyes and sore arms this morning. Did another two hours reading microfilms last night. Think I have given up on the handwritten ones. Far too difficult for this little black duck, as Daffy Duck would often say.

I am catapulting my fairy wand over to you. Have it mass produced so you have one each. With a wave of the wand you may have Nut Lodge any colour you like, when you like. Only for thirty days and then the zip zap runs out of the wand.

Have you noticed we still refer to the mansion as Nut Lodge.

Cold wet and miserable here this morning. Our short never was summer weather has returned to winter. Off to work work.

Good morning All - Maz must have been out early today, or got locked out with the site down. Wonder what treats the site has in store for us now?

Need to get OH up for the shopping trip this morning. He has something else he needs to do this afternoon, so must push on.

Oh yes - that £15.50 entrance fee - the website says its for multiple entries in 12 months, so not so bad. Pity they didn't make that clear on the board outside. :-(

LaGooner Report 18 Aug 2011 11:41

Morning all, this site is running slow so may not be back until later. Have a good day one and all <3

Something else must be going on because on the Suggestions board they have just announced the update did not go ahead because of unforseen problems.

I am also find the board very slow when I post anything.
