Morning all - hope you are all feeling a bit better. LG and YG must have sneezed down the cyber hatch for AS to have caught the lurgy. You hear about the speed of spread of contagion due ti international travel. Well, this is another version!

Great news Aunty about the family - something you have been waiting for, for so long. Fingers crossed it all works out. Have you considered arranging a family reunion somewhere midway to where you all live? In the UK, you can hire holiday homes of various sizes which work out quite reasonable per person. How about that for your autumn ie in 6 months time?

'My' school has moved into the new campus and have 'open to the community' tours this afternoon. We might go to one of those even though we will be having one specifically for invigilators later in September. Nothing like a getting sneak a preview, and we do live in the local community!

I'm alright. I think I've killed the germs in time. Probably the snap of warm weather has activated them earlier than normal. Dosed myself up with fairy juice and Vit C just to make certain.

Had a lovely email from new rellie. Visit being organised and she is interested in being involved in researching her family origins.

Need some sleep. Very busy at work work. Congrats on the win to the barbershop pole team LG. Have you been feeding them Aussie meat pies again??!! My team plays on Sunday. Our last home game for the season. Be nice to go out on a high note.

I know how much hard work it is moving a school DET. Was involved in it once many, many years ago. Packing up is not too bad, it is unpacking at the other end and trying to make things fit which drove me crazy. Good luck with it all.

Re the sneak preview of the school - I messed up! Its next Wednesday not today. At least I checked the calender. All dressed up and nowhere to go :-0 Got to go sort out food, after being up my tree all day amongst the Ozzie ER.

Evening all.

What a wet miserable day today!

Been to the vets to get the fur vaccinated. Was ok, but he would like me to take them in for dentistry work. It's only £400 (cough, splutter >>>>) for them both!

What a descision YG! Have you considered pet insurance? Although if it is anything like the human version, they won't cover pre-existing conditions.

Good morning - hope you all have an exciting, or enjoyable holiday weekend. Is this the end of 'summer'? :-0

What summer ????? :-(. Morning all.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Aug 2011 09:52

Morning LG - Summer? Yep, quite agree with you. We've even been eyeing up some of the late holiday deals, not that we'll go abroad this year. Let's see how next year pans out. BM enjoyed Malta.

To be honest, we've probably had an average one, but have been spoilt by the exceptionally hot dry ones in the last 10 years........and the summers of our carefree childhood when it was 'always' warm, dry and sunny.

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 27 Aug 2011 10:05

It has actually suited me this year as I hate it too hot and sunny. Old misery aren't I ??? :-D. I am hoping to get up to Lincoln for a weekend to see my cousin and the rest of the family that I have either not seen since 1962 or else I never new existed until 2 years ago.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Aug 2011 10:24

That will be good LG, and there are sights to see as well!

Now we've got older, we do prefer sightseeing type holidays, rather than sitting by the pool all the time, although that option is good for the late afternoons!

Our optimum temperature is 25-28 but without the humidity you get in the UK. At least with our planned jaunt in a week, we *know* its not going to be all that warm, and can act/dress accordingly. However, it would be nice if it managed to stay dry ;-)

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 27 Aug 2011 10:29

We have always gone for sightseeing. Our kids have been bought up with it so therefore still prefer it too. When they were very little they used to play on the beach for about an hour then start asking if we could go to a castle or something LOL. Oh and I are not ones for sitting about either hence now there are only the two of us we use Travelodge just for a roof over our heads at night and potter off out and about all day long. With frequent sit downs for coffee etc to give the old knees a break LOL. Talking of pottering best off and away around town for a few bits and bobs. Catch you later I hope,have a good day <3

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Aug 2011 10:47

When the offspring were younger, we went away probably ever 2 or 3 years, and then in the UK. As you say, they were taken around various sights. They moaned a lot since their school friends were off to the Costas, but they do say now that they have seen more of the UK than their friends.

We only had one whole family 'abroad' holiday when Eldest had finished her GCSEs. OH was so shattered with working long hours + 90mins driving at each end of the working day, we had to agree that the first week would be by the pool for him to veg out, and any trips the second week.

Hope you get the shopping you need LG, and avoid the showers.

Evening everyone.

It's been a lovely day here, washing all done and dry!! Send yours down Maz!! It is starting to cloud over now, but hopefully will blow over.

Been a busy girl today doing the unmentionable, but am off shopping tomorrow for a few bits for the holidays. Am having a mega shop day next Saturday when I am going to the large mall at Sheffield with a friend. We will also do 'ladies that lunch'!

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Aug 2011 22:26

Put a sock in it YG - 'tis enough noise to wake the dead! :-P

Pleased to hear that you've got your chores out of the way, AND managed to pick up a few bits for your holiday. Good luck with the mammoth shop next weekend - don't know about you, but when I've actually got an event in mind, and money to spend, I can never quite get what I have in mind!

We had a spontaneous afternoon out, complete with a packed lunch at a previously unknown local castle. Word of warning - the acorns are falling, and they don't 'alf 'urt :-0

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 27 Aug 2011 22:54

Do acorns really exist. I thought they were mythical pods/seeds from Winnie the Pooh. I know about chestnuts because they grow up in our cooler hills. Wonder if we have any oak trees in the botanic gardens.

Off to the footy today. Last home game for the season. My team's last game will be across the border next week. OH is coming with me. My friend can't make it so she has given me her ticket. OH does not particularly like going to the footy, but I screwed up my face and said please, and he said yes.

You lot had better make the most of your summer. If it is warming up here it sure will be snowing over there next week. And speaking of good weather over here..... As I have a house clean up to do I was wondering if you would all like to catapult over here and lend a hand. You can all take on a room each, I will supply the cleaning equipment, and bread and dripping for sustenance. I suppose you could have between 10.00pm and 3.00 am as free time. I will make up the rosters. Me, of course I'll help. I've rostered myself to clean the toilet.

Notice I have killed a few threads lately. Haven't actually been trying. It's my shield of invisibility that does it I suppose.
