Sorry to disappear, I had visitors arrive unexpected. Lovely to see them though. My plan is to do some tree this afternoon as I have not touched it for days.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Nov 2011 17:32

How's the Tree going LG? I've managed to take the pruning shears at long last to some of mine :-D

OH's parcel arrived today, and the dining room table has been converted into an Electronics Lab. He has been so engrossed I don't think he has eaten at all; I'm just waiting for the 'thump' when he gets up too quickly and faints. :-|

Early Dinner tonight, me thinks!

YG Report 4 Nov 2011 17:37

Evening everyone. Weekend at last!! Two and a half weeks to go!!

Off to the opticians again in the morning!! Good job I can touch type so I can still post on here!! :-D

Horrible dark, damp miserable evening. Mischief night!! Got the date mixed up with Halloween, but that's down to age lol :-D :-D

Hope the doorbell doesn't ring! I bought some treats last week, but ate them when nobody came!!

YG

YG Report 4 Nov 2011 17:40

DET, we were talking about laser treatment today. One of my bosses went to see about it, but although they were offering it from £700 per eye, the cost to her was well in excess of £3000. She does have some twitches though!!

They said it would only last until she was in her fifties, as eyes change a lot after that and it would have to be done again.

Don't think I will go down that road!! If I fail tomorrow, perhaps I will just stick with glasses!!

LaGooner Report 4 Nov 2011 17:47

Evening both.
My tree has grown a bit more DET even though I had done some pruning the other week. More of the blighters have turned up :-D.

Hope the eyes are improved soon YG. I can't even bear the thought of putting anything in my eyes :-P :-S. Oh has got to go back to the linic on Tuesday as he has a problem developed, not good he is not a happy bunny

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Nov 2011 17:59

Good luck at the opticians tomorrow YG, and sorry to hear about OH, LG.

Having more or less got as far back as is currently likely, I'm sort of finding living relatives - but not taking the drastic step of buying BMD. LOL. So more than likely some are wrong. :-(

Gone boss eyed, so off to start dinner. Have a good evening.

PS What's Mischief Night? Haven't heard of that darn suff!

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 4 Nov 2011 18:19

Mischief night sounds good to me :-D :-D :-D

YG

YG Report 4 Nov 2011 19:33

Evening LG. Sorry to hear about your OH. That is very disappointing after his surgery. Hope he goes on ok.

DET, Mischief Night started long ago and there are various explanations as to how it originated, one being that the night before Bonfire Night was when Guy Fawkes mischievously tried to blow up the House of Lords. Others put it down to the 1700s when Lawless Days were allowed.

In my youth, it was 'harmless' pranks like ringing door bells then running away, or removing a gate from it's hinges and hiding it in the garden, letting bike tyres down and tying up door handles.

Of course, the usual has happened and it has 'progressed' in some quarters to become mindless vandalism including putting fireworks through peoples' letter boxes, although infrequently, thank goodness. There has, is and always will be the 'mindless' element in youth!

Morning all. I have never heard of mischief night, however when I was a kid we did the mischief on Guy Fawkes night. Well I am not say I did it, but fireworks in letter boxes and making cracker guns etc certainly was the fashion in those days.

I am about to apply to Qantas to see if OH is able to be reimbursed for the ticket he could not use last Sunday, and also for the cost of his overnight accommodation on the way home. I think there is a form to be completed.

Hope your OH is OK DET. Mine had another eye treatment on Wednesday. Surprisingly he had less after effects than normal.

Spot the fearless sabretooth tiger with the itchy, scratchy skin condition is on little blue pills. I am beginning to suspect attention seeking strategies, but the pills seem to be working. Vet says it is due to the increase in grass spores and pollen in the air.

Thank you LG!! Not sure whether I am keen on the avatar but I will keep looking!

Can I curl up on the throne again tonight? I had a lovely night's sleep in there a couple of nights ago!! :-D :-D

Soyou all know I never ignore any of you. I read all your posts so here you are just in case........

Hi Maz, LG, YG, DET, Pauline and anyone else who posts on this thread. It is a beautiful warm spring day here. I have just had my hair cut, done the shopping and I will be spending the afternoon playing on the computer, or sorting photographs. I hope you are all in bed asleep, your team has won, your respective partners, OHs or bed time companions are well and happy. I hope all the kidlets and grandkidlets are not up to mischief and that you are enjoying a break from work. If you are working I hope you are in good spirits.

This message has come from Aunty because she has stuck her neck out on another thread and told them what ignores other's posts to smarten up!!

Line of yellow grubs with smiling faces across the page.

Hi everyone

Some may know me, most may not so you can ignore me if you like :-D

Just like to point out that I am a fellow Gooner and my claim to fame is I used to sit next to an ex Arsenal player at primary school.

Orf to bed now

AuntySherlock Report 5 Nov 2011 08:37

Hi Jax, and welcome. As a newcomer to this thread there are several time honoured traditions that will be required of you. The first one is of course the thread test. This test has been around for about 30 seconds (I just made it up) and requires you to read the whole thread. We will ask questions later. The result of your test will decide whether you are allowed to have your botty stamped, sit on the throne, or be banished to the cyber pet compound to be their caretaker.

If you see a broomstick conveying a red and white clad individual singing a dreadfully violent song. Duck! If you see a Froggy he belongs to Maz. Any firemen are the property of YG. I wear a fairy dress and have a sabretooth tiger. And DET, well she is the only sane one and looks after the wine, the sunflowers and has an OH who collects plugs from the ends of cords.

We are not as mad as we used to be. Old age has caught up and most of the cyber pets have left for greener pastures.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 5 Nov 2011 10:20

Morning all..............AND WELCOME JAX!!!! .............See, you haven't been ignored :-D Fresh meat, um, blood, um, input is always welcome on here. Did Aunty mention the Botty stamping? An age old custom (well, probably about 18 months) administered to posters to show their eligibility of Nuttiness :-D

LG likes to claim the Throne in Nut Lodge overnight (we let her, even we are still up at the Witching Hour) although sometimes we give her a fright by coming out from lurking in the shadows in the wee small hours.

So Aunty's gloating about the pleasant weather again :-| Oh well, one day our numbers will come up on the Lotto, then you'll be for it. ;-)

OH suggested last night that we go out today. But where to? There is a brewery down in Faversham which does tours, although it would be better during the week - less crowded with shoppers. And they sell a certain wine we had at a restaurant, which you can only buy by the case on line with a 2nd mortgage. (Not sure how I've earned the reputation for looking after the alcohic at the Lodge!)

Enjoy what ever you are intending to do today.

DET If you had a rellie born in Surrey in 1812 and A.... told you that a same named person was born in Birminghamshire, would you dismiss this as being another person. Fairly common name. I did a google directions and it is 50 miles.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 5 Nov 2011 10:48

Morning Aunty - personally, yes I'd ignore it, or at least not accept it at this stage. Once you get to that period, there must be loads of missing PR from on line at least, and if its a common name, all to easy to accept something which seems to 'fit' the dates. You would need some other source to back it up. You could see it there is a Will on the National Archive site, but you would be rather lucky if you found one. There might also be Naval/Military records, giving next of kin there as well. They cost £3.50 to download.

Had to look up Birminghamshire as it looked as if it was an American mangling of Birmingham, which is a lot further than 50 miles from Surrey.
