Did you ever get the council to cut the overhanging trees back? Wasn't there a time when you said they were touching your roof?

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 19 Nov 2011 09:52

Yes that was the large cedar and they dealt with that one. The rest don't come near the house they run down one side and cast a lovely shade later in the day in Summer.

Morning Maz, I have not left the house yet. I am sitting here folding up dry washing and chatting of course. I am so glad you enjoyed your outing .

Morning Maz- we are comparing trees. Is mine bigger than yours? LOL. They've got street view now, although the red car on the drive is BM's and he has taken it, and PC has changed hers (2nd from the road end)

Glad you had a good evening Maz - it sounds really good. I think you 'go out' more than us now-a-days! Pity the neighbours are still there - since you'd gone all quiet on that front, I thought they had moved on. :-(

:-P to Maz

The council charge £32 pa for garden waste + a one off £33 for the bin. it is collected fortnightly, but I don't know about over the winter. At least we still have household refuse collected weekly, which a lot of Boroughs have scrapped; They did a voluntary poll with most of the responders wanting to keep it. :-D

Mazfromnorf

Mazfromnorf Report 19 Nov 2011 10:52

we have weekly wheelie bin collections and fortnighly recycling ,for paerand card ,plastics, tins ,textiles and glass

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 19 Nov 2011 11:02

Textiles eh? That's forward thinking! We have to take ours to the dump if we don't put it in to the household waste. We do have your other dry recycling fortnightly collections. Strangely, although we have a separate box for glass, it gets chucked in with the paper/tins etc. At least our glass box gives our neighbour the opportunity to Tut. He wanders over to have a look in it, if we've put it out before he does his - lol

Afternoon all.

We have the same recycling as Maz, I think this week was the last one for the garden waste until the spring.

The only thing we put in the garden waste is the weeds, we compost everything else. We need the compost for the garden.

I had a look on Google at the Durham Lumière, it looks lovely.

Morning. Bit cooler here this morning. Overcast with hint of rain and 23 degrees today. We are off to a Sunday trash and treasure enterprise. Not something we do often but are hoping to find a replacement for the fruit stand which was broken recently.

Garbage collection. Some of our councils have slightly different schemes. In our area we have three wheelie bins. Small red lid for household waste, larger yellow lid for recycleables and green lid for garden waste. Red lid goes out every week and yellow and green lid alternate. No cost for the bin or the collection, that is included in our Council rates. If the bin gets stolen you have to pay for its replacement. We compost some vegetable scraps for use on the garden.

We also have a hard rubbish/junk collection once or twice a year. You place your old TV, furniture etc outside the house. Overnight the scavengers sometimes go through your offering and take their pick, then in the morning the council removes the remnants. The scavenging only happens in the more prestigious suburbs, so our junk is usually left for the council.

There is also the option of taking the rubbish to the waste transfer station yourself. Cost there is about $18 for a car boot load to $30 a trailer load.

YG Report 19 Nov 2011 22:34

Evening all.

Aunty, you will never make sense of Facebook! I can't say what I really think about it!!

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 20 Nov 2011 03:09

I am not afraid to say I find facebook very juvenile. I can see no reason for clicking a "like" button to show I have read something and then not make a comment on it. Can you imagine if everytime LG decided to sing her theme tune and brandish her laser while riding around on the broomstick, we all clicked the "like" button.

And I know we chat about what we are doing and where we are going and what we are eating and about the kids and grandkids; but the conversations are flowing and we bounce off each other.

On facebook someone says something, four people click like, two say that's great and that is the end of the conversation.

And most of all...... I would rather speak with my family and friends in person or even over the phone, or if they are a distance away perhaps via email. Restricting your information only to friends means you are locked into your own little world. I really thought facebook would be a way of contacting people from years ago, in other places. When you go looking for those people all you get is no photo (and a photo does not help if it is a dog or a cat), and Joe Bloggs does not share their info with everyone send a message. Fat lot of good if you are looking for Jane Smith or Fred Brown.

And have you noticed most people have their photos in groups. How are you supposed to know who is what if there are four people in the photo. And why look at a photo if they are family or close friends, surely you know what they look like.

My opinion, and you are getting a lot of that, is that it is a way of spying on what others are doing and thinking. It is also a giant advertising campaign and a clever way of getting a message across about what you consider important, viz your favourite, band, film, activity. Have you noticed how many advertisements are on a facebook page. The more favourites you list the more ads are thrown at you.

Hmmmm I don't like it very much do I????!!
