LaGooner Report 29 Dec 2011 10:13

Well now I have showered the splattered paint off me I am hanging spwcial wallpaper (red and white of course) that sticks to that paint Aunty put on and it will not strip off or be able to have paint put on it without a laser being activated. (ps the laser is booby trapped too) ;-) :-D :-D :-D.

Morning all from a horrible wet Bedfordshire :-|

AuntySherlock Report 29 Dec 2011 11:39

Well i could suggest that as soon as you put up your laser protected wallpaper it will change to the colour of the walls, but I won't because I am a friendly person.

I will just mention our weather. For the next week, from Thursday to the following Wednesday.

Maximum 30°C 34°C 37°C 39°C 39°C 36°C 28°C
Minimum 14°C 17°C 20°C 24°C 25°C 23°C 19°C

There you are, minimum of 25 C on New Years Eve, and they have relaxed the drinking rules in the "dry" zones in the city. Should be a very interesting night. Me, I am staying home away from all those hot sweaty people.

Apricots have ripened, we have a second crop of strawberries and the tomatoes are very tomatoey. I am off to sleep. Catch you all later.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 29 Dec 2011 11:44

Hurrah! The washing machine is fixed, and very reasonably :-D PC has snuck in first with her load - lol

Poor Maz living next to a rubbish heap - you really ought to get the environmental health officer from the council involved. Pity you aren't on good terms with them, to be able to remind them when dustbin day is.

Added - Aunty nipped in - we must have been typing at the same time.

Weather sounds good; now don't go moaning that its too hot and humid to sleep ;-)

Don't *think* we have termites, only red or black ants. The Black ones are the most common, although I haven't come across any nibbling houses before. Most buildings are brick or concrete built...until you get the wooden rafters/joists/floorboards.

Sleep well.

Morning (just!!) everyone.

Don't like the pictures LG!! Have taken them down and refilled the frames with Michael Buble and Colin Firth. Now I can sit and dream! I will ignore the wallpaper for the time being!!

Aunty, my ants are common old Pommy ones, black and some little perishing red ones that nip!!

It is the ordinary ones that cause the problem, although I don't generally get any in the house, other than on my bedroom window sill. The silicone seal needs replacing and they come up through there. My mother used to be overrun with them at times and the council used to come out and spray which was effective for some time, but they cannot eradicate them as there must be millions of them under the earth for miles round here.

I saw termites in Africa and the hills that they build. Amazing!! But very pleased that I do not have them in my garden!!

You have got your washing machine repaired DET!! Have you sent Sweet Pea packing now!!

AuntySherlock Report 29 Dec 2011 20:11

You can keep Michael Bubble, but I will fight you for Colin Firth, YG. Great news about your ants. When we lived in the tropics one wall of our house fell in, or rather out, because of white ant infestation. I was only a little kid at the time but I remember it very well. As for eradicating the ants we have stuff called Ant Rid. Don't have that much of a problem with them, mostly they stay out in the garden.

I thought your neighbourhood problems had been sorted Maz. Getting the Council involved sounds like a good idea. You could tell them you are thinking about talking to your local newspaper about your situation because it was becoming very distressing to you.

I was thinking about settling down on the throne again, but I have a feeling that LG or DET will be lurking somewhere not too far away and will kick my butt off the cushion as soon as I nod off!!

Wonder if I dare chance it!!!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 29 Dec 2011 23:06

Don't get too comfy! ;-)

That must have been really scary to have the house fall down around your ears. When we visited Eldest in CA, there were a couple of wooden framed houses in their street having to have the walls rebuilt because of some sort of infestation.

The main problem in the UK seems to be rot, either wet or dry, coupled with subsidence. (and leaking roofs!)

Morning all dont talk to me about washing machines ,driers and anything thats electircal that can be tampered with lol
story begins work is a rented premises ,so the washer was a posh clever one that lights up we are supposed to prompt the tenants to use the washer but it was too complicated so it was a nightmare one of ours goes about in the silly hours raiding cupboards and touching things lol so result was a knackered washer .anyway the caretaker who i am on firstname terms with came i persuaded him to let us have a basic washer much easier so i thought !!!! wrong !!!! I stood guard on 6 loads and the drier to get it all done lol
well I woder weather we can have a party on the 15000 posts as well as a new year bash

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Dec 2011 10:57

Lol - don't you think that washing machines have too many programmes? Mine has 14, but I probably only use 3 on a regular basis. I'd imagine that if the work one had a timer (to use the cheaper overnight electricity), someone fiddling with it would really mess things up.

Mazfromnorf

Mazfromnorf Report 30 Dec 2011 11:46

that is so true apparently the new motherboards are more expensive than a basic washer and when its switched off it dont go back to the beginning again either lol
I am now dressed sort of organised this last week has drained me so i am doing the basics today Froggy is arriving later for weekend so i am just getting the place tidy I am going to clear the sitting room tree etc on tuesday when i am off it may just last until then .Smudge has a new game at the moment playing with the tap at the sink so we may be lucky lol

We've decided to go to our shopping centre for a cup of coffee. PC says 'Good luck!' as it took her ages to get passed it the other day.

Talking of cats - one of the young people we met over Christmas has a male kitten destined to be kept indoors. She said she wasn't intending to get it 'done' as it wouldn't meet females, and besides, if he did, she wouldn't have to look after the resulting kittens - the owners of the females should have 'sorted' them out.

Its like giving carte blanch to the males of any species not to bother with family planning. :-|

Afternoon everyone. Thanks for waking me up DET!! I knew you would be around somewhere!!

I have just been down to A**a for a couple of bits, but turned back at the roundabout and went to the local shops instead!! Can't be doing with full car parks, it causes 'road rage' in me when the supermarkets are heaving!!

Don't talk electrical!! I have an old 'boom box' that I use for radio and cds and it was suggested by a friend that I buy a docking station for the 'shuffle', so I went into town yesterday to have a look. Apparently they don't do them, but you can connect to speakers via an auxillary jack plug. The only ones they had were the ugly 'beak' designs that are popular at the moment and I didn't like them. Thinking that I could really do with something that would play cds and the fact that I would like a DAB radio, prompted me to go mad and treat myself to a compact stereo system that does it all!! :-D Very hi-tech, slim and expensive, so I bought it. Got home and excitedly unpacked it and connected it all up. Could I auto tune the radio >>>>>>>>>> NO!! No signal!!

The hairdresser has called this afternoon and got the radio working on DAB for me, but I need to get an outdoor aerial to avoid having the bloomin' wires taped to the lounge wall for reception. I still haven't fathomed out the FM programming yet!!

Changing the subject, did someone mention a party!!!

AuntySherlock

AuntySherlock Report 30 Dec 2011 19:59

Morning all. If you intend to have a New Year's Eve Party you had better hasten. It is tonight our time. We are still 142 posts away from 15000 so perhaps sometime in the next day or two might be a good party night.

Washing machines. I know I have given my opinion on front load washing machines before. DET is so correct about the number of wash cycles. I have 18 options for washing on my machine. I use two of them, and once in a blue moon I might use one other cycle.

Not having a cat desexed could be seen as irresponsible, no matter where the animal will be housed. However, as it is a male cat I can understand the thought processes. There won't be any kittens for his owner to house, feed and care for, so why bother. Not very community minded but understandable.

I have a gadget which I plug my ipod into and then tune a radio station to pick up my ipod music. I can use it in the car or at home. Anywhere there is a radio. YG you need to find someone about 12 years old and entice them into your house with biscuits and soft drink, then ask them to tune your radio and ipod. Believe me they know it all.

The wall falling down. We lived in a renovated iron and timber house, with louvred windows. When the parents had visitors over in the evening they would stop outside our room and say hello to us. One evening while we were chatting through the louvres the wall just removed itself from the building. And I don't have the faintest recollection of how it got fixed.

I am off to do the shopping, leftovers are running out so I need to go buy some proper food. Spot is walking up and down the passageway panting waiting for OH to take him for a walk. He is almost back to full use of his leg, just a slight limp now. He has also lost a bit of weight and looks a lot healthier.
