You all have such helpful male species!!!! Perhaps that is what I am lacking >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> NOT!! It would be very useful to have one to cook the dinner and do the jobs, but he would have to go back to his own home at night lol :-D :-D

Maz, our council comes down hard on tenants that do not keep their gardens clean and tidy. Don't know whether your local council could act on all the rubbish and dog s*** because even though it is a private let, surely it is still a health & safety issue.

There is a whole list of ideas there DET!! I certainly wouldn't have time to work!! I am hoping that I will be able to progress much more rapidly with my fh once I have retired. .

Hmm....because of the (until recently) earlier retirement age for women, and historically a large %age were 'homemakers', we do tend to consider the adaptations that females have to make when their male partners give up paid work.

In Auntie's case its her male who will have to make the changes. How about sitting down together and telling each other what you both want out of your cohabiting lives? There are compromises to be made. It may not be perfect, but better than getting on each other's nerves.

My BFFE's husband (the one with the silent migraine) took redundancy in his early 50's, then had a part time job from which he was medically retired. He is now 60. She is considering giving up her school hours job, but is worried about being joined at the hip to him. I think that is often one of the major concerns with 2 independent people, who until then have their own identity.

At least the husband as above is a Parish Councillor, helps run a car club, and has recently volunteered to drive a mini bus for an older person's charity.

YG - glad you liked the list - perhaps i ought to add Aunty's lawn, or even carpet, bowls! I think its all about trying to get a balance - things for him, things for her, and things to do together. Obviously, if you are living alone, then you do need something for social contact.

I'm lucky that OH is v laid back -sometimes too much - although I do wish he would get up a bit earlier. Its usually me who has to suggest we go out, and where to, but at least we have the occasional work work to keep us sane. Although neither of us are 'joiners', we really ought to make the effort.

morning all
I am looking at your OH and retirement issues quite scary lol I am too used to my own space and agenda now lol
when i was married it used to be when he was home ,what are you doing ? come and have a cuppa ,do you have to do that lol ?
The landlord lives in Inverness, the letting agency maybe the weak link as they are part of a very large travelling family it was the 48 hours notice that wrecked the last visit .So that is why I have gone back to the anti social team .The landlord was also charged for a home visit and wont do it again

Morning All

Some Letting Agents can't be bothered. PC's B/F with others moved in to a house where the cold tap (rising main) wasn't connected properly, and the lock on the back door broken. They were complaining to the agent for weeks, but nothing happened until one of them went to the Agency and threatened not to move from the offices until 'something was done'.

The Landlord came the next day, said he hadn't been told, and fixed it (and other problems) very quickly. He hadn't been advised by the Agents who obviously couldn't be bothered.

Just because the Tenants are settled Travellers, there is no need to live surrounded by squalor. After all, they are paying for their refuse collection in their council tax, even if they are on housing benefit. 'Proper' Travellers, settled or not, are clean, proud people.

Aunty - hope the working gang successfully cleared up the garden mess. That's what children are for!

Yard now clean and tidy, back fence repaired, and clothes line sort of fixed. Have phoned the insurance people and they will phone us back tomorrow. OH had to take photographs of the damage. He is also going to speak with the neighbours to see if they want the clothes line completely replaced, or whether they are satisfied with his repair. Family cam around and helped with the clearing up.

We are doing a touristy trip tomorrow for the visitor. Up to the hills and to visit a popular local attraction. Might score a decent lunch this time. I love having this time off work work. Spend my time making lists of things I need to do, have forgotten to do, or need to check I have done when I get back to work. It is like my brain has two compartments. On one level I am "relaxing" and not at work, and on the other side my brain is furiously whizzing along in work mode. At this quiet time of the late evening I sneak in here and do little bits on the computer or in my log book. I have the "plastic crate of work stuff" hidden under my desk.

I know, I shouldn't but sometimes I just can't help myself. Deprive me of chocolate and I turn scatter brained!!

Don't bother growling, there is no hope for me!!!

Good morning everyone.

I actually managed to go back to bed with a cuppa and read my book for a while this morning!

I am just having a quick tea break, having done some chores! Just a little ironing to do and prepare a roast beef dinner, then feet up to relax and watch some dvds!!

I am going to be totally idle and proud of it today!!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Jan 2012 11:48

Ah, but you are learning - if it weren't for the visitors, you would have taken yourself off to work, work. There is hope for you yet. Just give into the urge to go there once a week and no more.

As part of your retirement plans, you ought to be looking for a voluntary organisation to join now so that you can use your organisational skills to whip them into shape ;-)

Enjoy your trip to the Hills. Have you been there before? Eldest used to scream if visitors wanted to go to Alcatraz - she'd been there so many times, she could have been employed as a tour guide.

I need to get OH up - we're working next week, and if he doesn't get his body clock in line with everyone else, he'll won't be fit for anything. Mind you, I've been letting mine slip as well :-0

In the mean time, I'm checking the uncovered disability column on 1911. One surprise, and one outright lie. :-|

I'm into Wild at Heart, so will be fixed to the tv until later, then bathtime!!

I hope LG is ok. Very strange that she hasn't been on at all, or e-mailed.

What a mob of chattering magpies. 15,000 separate pieces of information. You lot can arrange the party. I need to go wash my foul body and make myself beautiful for my excursion today. Catch you all later.
