RMS - you say we moan about inclement weather? From what you've previously said, you rely on the snow for your water supply!

Since Maz is home all day, whats the betting her front windows will be sparkling clean, just so she can keep watch next door with out being accused of a curtain twitcher. :-D

Got to get OH up - we have to leave for the opticians in 45 mins.

Evening Derek,

Evening YG Maz and whoever else is lurking.

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 30 Jan 2012 20:00

WE DO WE DO! :-P

But it has to stay in the mountains so it can melt slowwwwly and can last the summer (which it never does but....)

Derek does seem like a bright 'boy', doesn't he? :-)

We had a neighbour like Mazs, he was a drug dealer. and when he left he distoryed the inside of the house.

YG

YG Report 30 Jan 2012 20:12

Hey Gooner...I don't lurk...I loiter..but without intent!! :-P

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 30 Jan 2012 20:27

You wouldn't want to loiter within tent, it's to bloomin cold to camp. :-D :-D :-D ;-).

Sounds good YG. That reminds me I must put office onto this lappy

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Jan 2012 21:11

So Derek has taken up camping, has he? He certainly is a useful chap to have around.

Don't worry RMS - the snow will melt as quickly as it comes (fingers crossed behind back)

Good luck with the restore YG. At least you are back for a day or so.

Instead of noisey neighbours, Maz will have workmen to oggle. Pity the new people next to the neighbour from hell. It sounds as if they need a house in the middle of nowhere, so they can wallow in their muck without annoying anyone else.

New glasses to be collected in 2 weeks - his and hers - needed a mortgage, and thats without designer frames :-0

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 30 Jan 2012 21:17

no, no, DET

we don't want the snow to melt as quickly as it comes

that leads to flooding, major flooding

It has to melt slowly over several months, say from February or March until August, or even September ..... then we get even water going into the reservoirs.

and even so ............ where I live has a bylaw enforcing mandatory water saving from May 1.

don't know about RMS

s

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 30 Jan 2012 21:48

She's right you know! we really don't want flooding, thank you very much. People drown, roads disappear, houses float away, it is not a pretty sight

Our water savings are all year long :-P watering every other day, except when it is really hot and we are nearly out of water, then it once a week or not at all. Our valley is a semi-arid climate, which means we don't have a lot of water to spare.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 30 Jan 2012 23:12

Sorry - didn't think about that! Yes, we have run off, if the ground is frozen, but obviously, even in Scotland, the snow is never as deep as in your part of the world.

RMS, is your new picture recent? Can't quite see how deep it is, but it looks 'pretty'.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Jan 2012 00:46

RMS

I can understand you having watering restrictions

but we're on the coast, in Temperate RAINFOREST :-S

mind you ............... rainfall in July and August here only averages 0-5 mm

we're a "wet winter dry summer" climate

..... and people do like to have green, green lawns, and just lurve watering the sidewalk and roads in the attempt to have them

they never believe that you can let them dry out for 4 or 5 months, if necessary, and they'll still come back after 2 days of rain in the fall :-)

along with all the mushrooms, and the moss etc

s

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 31 Jan 2012 00:51

DET

most of our water comes from run-off from the snow that accumulates in the mountains ....... of which we have rather a lot in the province.

Currently, the mountains across the harbour, less than 15 minutes from downtown, have at least 200-300 cm snow pack ...... and that is at the ski resorts. Higher up or in the back country there'll be much much more.

Mountains further north and east have much more .... one of the inland ski resorts has around 500 cm

All that snow melt runs into, eventually, just a few rivers that funnel south

and that is the problem when we get rapid snow melt!
