Evening All :-D

A good day was had by both of the wanderers, and yes, the helicopters did shepherd LG into the exhibition and was waiting to greet her when we emerged :-D :-D

Jane? Who is Jane? We thought it would come up as WDYTYAlive, not 'Jane'. Oops!! Best I send her a message when LG is back on line, to apologise and suggest she deletes. We were having a 'funny five minutes', as you do - lol

Assuming she does - message preserved as follows.

Morning all. As I said it took several minutes for the penny to drop, then I realized Jane must have been one of the GR people. Well come on tell us about the big adventure. Did you talk to anyone who knew anything about FH.

Hmm while you lot have been gallivanting I have been typing for OH. Did about five pages and went back to insert a picture and could not find my updated document. Searched all the drafts and no updates. Drats. Found it in the end where I had saved it under a different name so I woldn't mix it up. Too clever by half sometimes, I am.

Another stinking hot day. Last night minimum was 26 degrees and it is now 28.3 at 6.25 am. Nice of the heron to provide supper for the cat and nice of the cat to bring it home to share.

Thanks YG I have just edited my previous post. Why on earth did I type that, what a nutter. Plenty of shoes, no fish and definitely not a sole soul around at the time of posting.

Morning Aunty!!

I wasn't gallivanting! I was doing the unmentionable horrible things!

LaGooner Report 25 Feb 2012 20:14

Helloooooooooo. A really good day, well as DET said the helicopter greeted me and saw me off the premises too :-D. Bought 3 parish CDs in hopes of finding some more of my Wiltshire and Lincoln lot. Learnt a few new things about A******y tips that we never knew.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 25 Feb 2012 20:33

Morning Aunty!

What we do and see? Well, LG went on a spending spree and bought various disc of Wiltshire records, and we both renewed or were assigned a code for a 25% discount on the 'other site' we know and love to use :-D :-D

I spoke to the people on the JewishGen stall and got told about several web sites which may help, and the Met Police are going to look up and see if they have any records for one of OH's greats.

We sat in on a talk by the A mob, about enhancements to their site, and learned a few tips about using some of the features. Look out for the Beta version of images for the UK 1911 and US 1930. The Beta interactive version is going to be rolled out over all census.

We met Ron on his stall, and bought him and his assistant a hot drink as a 'thank you'. As usual at these things, we collected a lot of free pamphlets, still to be waded through.

The GR stand wasn't obvious as such, and less busy than many of the other major players. FMP probably had most of the budget!!! GR had lap tops running, presumably for record searching, which is what we used to post a cheeky message. [Sorry, Jane]. I did spot the name tag for Estelle of customer support, but wasn't able to read everyones.

Enjoy the last of your heat, Aunty. you'll soon be moaning that you are cold!

Hellooo DET. I am cream crackered :-\. I have not even got the stuff out of my bag yet except for the freebie pencils for the littlies. A was delighted and says she is going to draw me a special picture, can't wait :-D

I am envious of your excursion particularly the handy hints bit and being able to mingle with FH celebrities. Just finished fitness and am off to the movies with a couple of friends this afternoon. We are going to see a movie based on a series of books we all read. Hopefully it is close to the books, if so it should be quite entertaining.

As part of his birthday gifts OH received some plants. Tomato, capsicum and rhubarb. The Blonde one was responsible, and handed them over with the message, here you are Dad, you know how much I like tomatoes and capsicums, but not the green ones. I know you like rhubarb so that one is for you!!

Good morning all - yes, I emerged about an hour ago, but have been unpacking my bag and sorting the wheat from the chaff :-)

Enjoy your time off work Maz. Will you be going to visit Mum? And which film is/has Aunty been/going to see? Any good?

What a thoughtful gift of plants for OH, even if there is an ulterior motive - lol

It is awful to be so far away - I don't mean on the other side of the moat where I am building a canteen and proper facilities.... but being on t'other side of the world and not being able to attend these things.

I see "Jane's" surname is Smith... I will pass on researching her LOL...

I am just about ready to get my sleeping bag and bedroll out, may use the tent tonight. It is an Edmund Hillary one and was darn difficult to erect. All these slot A into slot B etc .. and then four boy scouts came along and helped and we toasted crumpets and marshmallows on the camp fire. Lord Baden-Powell taught them well... so glad they have not emulated him and wear the same type of shorts though..

So dib dib dib and dob dob dob and I am off to bed...

I will erect the deer fence tomorrow..

Persie

Well PerseY lol

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 26 Feb 2012 09:58

Your Edmund Hillary tent has instructions??? My goodness, how innovative!! Did you rub the boy scouts together to start the fire? That is supposed to be the default way to start one if you don’t have matches, and probably more interesting than rubbing 2 pieces of wood together. You’ve worked so hard at the reno’s you deserve an early night. :-)

Even though one of the young ladies had a name tag with ‘Jane’ on it, I’m still not convinced that Jane Smith isn’t a generic made up account created for the Show. We’ll have to wait and see if my apologetic PM is opened, and the post deleted.

It’s a shame that you don’t have a WDYTYA type of exhibition in your part of downunder; it would be great to visit and gather information about research sources etc etc.

The renovations are going well. Persie is making a really good job of them!! :-D I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

It's been a lovely day here, but chilly when the sun goes in!! Managed to do a bit of pruning this morning and spoke to my naked gardener about helping me with a new shed and patio in a few weeks time.

Have done all the unmentionables so am now chilling out!

Enjoy your leave Maz. I have a few days off in another three weeks and can't wait!!

Ha! But you see we do have similar events.

http://www.gouldgenealogy.com/2012/02/13th-australasian-genealogy-congress-the-details/

Only thing putting me off is the cost of going. I don't have to worry about accommodation etc because I am here already. I suppose I will probably purchase a day ticket and choose one day to go along and take a look. Would be sillly to miss out on the oportunity.

The film I saw was One For the Money. It is based on the first Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich. Quite entertaining, doubly so if you know the characters and the story. The series is up to book 18 now so the movie just scratches the surface.

We have a reprieve from the heat this week. Down to the mid to high 20s. Hopefully I will sleep a little better.

Well done to the red and whites. My proper footy team played it's first pre-season games yesterday. Really dumb idea in above 30 degree temperatures. They managed to win but it is not a very good indicator of how they will go when the actual home and away games start at the end of March.
