Ginger beer?, Maz???

It's a 10 day thing, according to the recipe!! You have to keep slicing it and passing on a section for someone else to finish!! Don't put him in the oven until day 10 or else he will die!!

Was the ginger beer instead of yeast?

Mazfromnorf Report 7 Mar 2012 19:30

the base was a mix that made the ginger mix but not sure how I just remember my Aunty and mum swapping this fermented mix to make the ginger beer hwever it was very strong stuff and the corks quite often popped lol
the cake just reminded me of it .
I have just found this

30 days? This one only took 8. Well, actually 9 as I forgot to cook it yesterday. Our version has chopped apple and raisins mixed in at the last minute, as well as the cups of sugar/flour etc etc.

The batter was supposed to be divided into 4, passing 3 on to other people. Unfortunatley, all the of the people I know locally had their fill of the wretched thing when our children were young! I cooked up 2 batches (one now in the freezer), and still have the other 2. PC took one of the original to a friend who turned it into bread, but won't pass on the family recipe :-(

Mum used to have ginger beer plant. Has anyone seen any recently?

Sorry - been looking up Canadian marriages ;-)

No, not yet. But to be honest, I wouldn't be suprised if there wasn't anything. Still, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Well done! :-D

Such a pity that none of my lot are likley to be on them, but then there are so many of the same surname, it would be hopeless trying to sort them out.

No current plans for tomorrow, so may be around during the morning. Catch you then, hopefully

Sleep well
;-)

anyone like some Parks from Westmorland??

every flippin' family seems to have many children ........... 20 is the biggest family I've found so far. ALL 20 survived to adulthood, but thank heavens, not all of them married!

Mom died young .... of heart failure :-D

She was pregnant or breastfeeding for 32 years :-0

and

all the families use the same names over and over again ..... it's awful trying to work out who is child, or niece/nephew, of which parents

I have the same problem, Sylvia, massive families all the way back and all the siblings in every generation gave their children the same Christian names. Most of them were born in the same area as well, quite a few families lived in the same street.

Mind you, we lived in the same street as my dad's mother.............. so did one of his brothers and 2 of his sisters.

I'd never heard of a 'Friendship Cake', had to Google it. This one looked nice...
