Morning all - from a 'Healthy' DET :-D which is just as well as we are meeting old (as in school) friends for a meal tonight.

You're probably right about the whiteness, but like all things when they change (remember the one to decimal currency?) we'll get used to it. At least GR can tinker if many people express a problem.

Aunty has touched on the main difference between UK and Australian housing - ours are built with cool/cold weather in mind and central heating on a timer as the norm, Australians concentrate on keeping cool in the heat.

Glad to hear that things are settling down with the transport and that Maz' mum enjoys (recognises) A.

There are reports that central London has had a serious drop off in visitor numbers both overseas and domestic. Hotels are slashing their prices to try and drum up bed-nights. Could have told you that was going to happen at the back end of last year. OH thinks that visitors to the games will do the tourist bit once they've seen their booked events. I really didn't want London to win the bid, not just because I've no interest in sport, but because of the financial impact on this country.

Its not just the families of Australian athletes who haven't been able to get seats; There is a GR member who is Aunty to one of Team GB's medal winners. She tried to get tickets for the appropriate event(s) when they were first released and didn't suceed.

The current thoughts are to try to get approval of the Accredited seat numbers (journos etc) reduced and offered to London teachers and students and also offered for sale the day before. OH and I think that v late on-the-day releases could be sold in the Park on the day to people who have already got access via other tickets about an hour before the session starts at knock down prices. At least it means the venue would be full.

Gosh, hardly recognised you there LG. Still the new version as per your 'treat' or have you reverted to the old?

Enjoy your meal out Maz- OH is glued to the Archery when ever it is on. He's talking about taking it up as a hobby. All well and good if he can borrow the equipment. He has a history of throwing himself into something new, buying all the kit then losing interest. :-0

Gone for an old favourite as I find it very easy to handle. I have not had it like it for many years though so it seems new.

Whoo hoo!! We won't know you when we see you again, LG!!

DET, you would get more use of the PC if your OH takes up archery!! Just don't stand in the way while he practices!!

LaGooner Report 1 Aug 2012 21:48

I am a voice in the wilderness. I like the new format. It is clean and bright and uncluttered. I was tired of all the greenery. OK, the print is a little small, the turquoise hard to read, and the white areas a bit dazzling but I think we will get used to it. No sense in complaining, ifn you don't like you votes with your feet.

Interesting to see China surpassing the USA in the medal count. We think our media has far too grand expectations for our athletes. Media expects us to be first in everything. It is a very unrealistic expectation and is having a sad effect on the participants when they do not achieve the ultimate success.

I quite like it too Aunty, although it is rather bright for my eyes. Maybe I can suss out how to turn down the brightness on this lappy!! If not, my IT man will be coming soon to renew my antivirus, so perhaps he will sort it out for me!!

LG, you are off the same week as me!! I am staying at home and if the weather is reasonable I shall give the fence a second coat and do some lazing around, as well as finishing the planting in the new border. That will keep me out of mischief for a while. :-D

Good morning :-D :-D

OH fed us fizzy coffee so still feeling slightly wired,

I'm still not sure about the colours and can't be sure if the slight headache is due to the brightness or spending too long on the computer. No, its not the alcohol!

Australia is not the only country expecting miracles for their athletes. After all, they are up against the best in the world and peoples form can be effected by many things.
Swimming used to be Australia's best discipline, rowing and cycling, GBs. But it despite past form, that doesn't seem to be working out as they hoped.
However, as one of the Team GB finalists said, "Last time I was the 11th fastest in the World, now I'm the 7th"

Morning LG - I'm still trying to wake up. Didn't sleep too well, worrying about things that I can't change. Stupid, isn't it?

Another ladies wot lunch today, but not a full meal and I ought to be able to have a snooze this afternoon.

Are you doing the 'must leave a spotless house before we go away' thing? With a house sitter, unless they have been trained, its probably a waste of time ;-)

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 2 Aug 2012 10:33

No don't do the spotless bit, clean yes but not spotless it is a waste of time. I leave it til we get back as I usually have more energy and enthusiasm then :-D.

Have not even thought about lunch yet as I am trying to decide which weight clothes to take to fit in with weather :-S

Layers LG. Layers (and waterproofs) :-0

3 of us had a good chin-wag at lunch. My BFFE who I & OH had met for dinner last night worked out that we all left school 40 years ago this year...and it has been 40 years since she last met my other friend. We all went to the same Primary school, then Secondary School, and their fathers were friends until one moved away a few years ago. :-D

YG Report 2 Aug 2012 22:46

Evening all!!

Yes, DET, I was at the coal face, leaving the house at 7.15 this morning. I had a huge task to complete that I have been working on for the last two weeks. Finally finished it today with much praise from the Head of Federation, so my head no longer fits through the door :-D :-D :-D :-D Am also suffering with a massive headache (too much staring at the screen and not even blinking!!)

I am off to bed now, ready to face the last day tomorrow. Then next week off, yeah!!!

LG, I don't mind too much if you drop something flying over on your broomstick, but please just be choosy in what you decide to drop!! I spend enough time dodging the pigeons and magpies! :-D :-D

Ta-ra for now!!! Sleep well <3
