YG Report 12 Oct 2012 17:30

Evening all!

Just a quick visit for now, as have to go to the vet's with fur. He's hurt his paw and he also needs his boosters. More expense!! Cash just flows out of my purse llike there's no tomorrow!!

Fish'n'chips for me tonight on the way home. Naughty, I know! :-D :-D

You both have infamous people in your history! I wish I had time to do more digging. I can only lay claim to an ancestor serving time in Wakefield prison for stealing a purse :-D :-D How embarassing is that!

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 12 Oct 2012 22:19

At least he made a difference in his life-time, even if it was for the wrong reasons :-0
Hope the fur is on the mend and not too expensive.

LG's chilling must have turned into an early night. She can't keep up with the little one any more :-P

Since the weather is supposed to be good, we've booked tickets for tomorrow's re-enactment. Who knows? We might bump in to Maz & Frog!

LaGooner Report 13 Oct 2012 09:11

Morning I feel YUK :-P. I have got a rasping cough which is keeping me awake. Hence I stretched out on the bed last evening and I went away with the fairies :-D.

Enjoy your day DET and love to Maz and Froggie if you see them.

Pets are never ending expense YG. A visit to the vet costs the earth but I am fortunate in that mine have not had to go very often.

YG Report 13 Oct 2012 19:29

Evening everyone.

Hope you are feeling a bit better tonight, LG.

DET, enjoy your day tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will stay good for you :-D

The vet's bill was £80 and depending on results of blood tests, has to go back for some dental work which will be in the region of £230. Oh joy :-( :-(

I have been a busy bee today. Clearing things out of the bathroom and kitchen, washing clothes, some painting (although not a lot as I was getting in the way of son!!). Bless him, he has done the bathroom, kitchen and small hall ceilings, two coats on each, taken down the kitchen blind and demolished it for me and removed the old curtain rail and batten in the bathroom. He also fitted new handles to the kitchen cupboards for me. :-) :-) :-) :-)

And he's coming back to do some work for me in a couple of weeks. I am soooooo chuffed with him <3 <

Time for relaxation now.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Oct 2012 09:44

Morning - The weather forecaster lied! It was supposed to be sunny all day, but instead there were heavy rain showers. The mud was atrocious, despite the organisers’ best efforts. Thank goodness we went with appropriate footwear, even if I did discover that my so called waterproof walking shoes weren’t.

OH had another of his ‘turns’, almost 12 months to the day from the last one. Instead of a bevy of A&E and other nurses being first responders, this time we had a male Combat Medic (in Anglo-Saxon costume!) before the on-site paramedic arrived.

He did make a good recovery, but we made sure he took things gently and sat down to rest when ever possible. The ‘Show’ was quite interesting, although we don’t think we’ll attend another event. We left towards the end of the re-enactment as we think we knew who won. ;-)

Fish’n’chips bought for tea! Today’s task will be cleaning our footwear and mud encrusted jeans.

Well done YG’s son for helping his poor old mum. Glad to hear that he is stepping up when really needed. Ours phoned our mobiles several times from B&Q – he is embarking on his first attempt at decorating. I think we’ll have to get him a DIY decorating/household maintenance book for the C word!!!

Sorry to hear you're under the weather again LG - get well soon

YG Report 14 Oct 2012 13:31

Hello! Anyone there!!

Poor LG must still be feeling rough. I hope you make a speedy recovery. :-)

I hope your OH is ok today, DET. He picks his moments doesn't he!! Shame about the weather. According to the BBC website it has been cancelled, so I assume there was due to be a second day today?

Have fun cleaning those boots. Not a nice job! :-D

I was supposed to carry on painting the kitchen, but got waylaid cleaning the window frame. The workmen left a load of excess sealant on the frames when they were fitted (before I moved in!!) so I have been busy scraping and cleaning. Taken for ever, but almost done now and worth the effort. I am having the window measured next week for a new blind, so couldn't be shown up with the state they were in!

Just having a quick tea break before carrying on and hoping to finish the first coat on the walls.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Oct 2012 18:10

Yes, he is fine today thank you, although he has been checking his BP to discover what is 'normal' for him; we've got one of those home kits from the chemists from when he first became worried a few years ago.

Such a shame of the organisers, participants and spectators that the 2nd day of the Battle has had to be cancelled. It was a repeat of Saturday’s programme. Yes, the mud was awful even though they were laying down straw and already had mats in place.

Yesterday they had to close the car park (a field) because vehicles were getting stuck driving into it. We were OK but had to have a little push at one point to get out. The Anglo-Saxon combat medic and the paramedic said that tractors were being used during the set-up on Friday as the catering and other equipment vans kept getting bogged down.

Bet you are pleased that one of the put-off jobs is done YG. The finished make-over should look good, even if it isn’t the hoped for new kitchen.

Talking of which. Guess what? Our CH boiler has packed up, just as I was asking OH to remove the oil-filled radiator left in the hall from the last break-down nearly 2 years ago. Lucky us that the CH engineer is due on Wednesday.

~~~~ to LG on her sick bed
YG Report 14 Oct 2012 20:04
Pleased to hear that your OH has recovered, DET. He is sensible checking his blood pressure regularly.
You must have had a fair bit of rain down there to make things that difficult. It has been lovely here for most of the week, although the rain has started this evening.
I have finally managed to get the first coat finished and have cleaned as I have worked round, so that will save quite a bit of work later.
Son is coming in a couple of weeks to sand the internal kitchen door. I am hoping to get the glass changed and in the panel at the side of the door, but have to apply for permission to do it first. I need to find out if I need fireproof glass or just toughened, so that I can get a price. I was going to fit new internal doors, but it would cost in the region on £900 by the time I have bought all the door furniture as well, so have decided to have the existing doors sanded down and new handles fitted. They are very solid and will look ok when they are painted brilliant white.
i am exhausted now and have just cooked a quick tea. Am going to relax for the evening now! :-D :-D
~~~~~~~ LG. Hope you are on the mend. <3

Morning all, struggled out of my sick bed this morning to say hello. I have spent most of the weekend asleep or coughing :-|. Just heard from a good friend this morning that she has it too, I did not breath on her honest :-D.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 15 Oct 2012 09:27

Morning LG - take it easy and keep warm, with lots of fluids and a GP's appointment <3

You'd better not come round here as its a tad chilly around the ankles!

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 15 Oct 2012 14:53

Afternoon DET. taking your advice but not the GP visit. ;-). I'm on the nmend and do not like going for the simple things I can cure myself. :-D

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 15 Oct 2012 14:59

Keep it up then, but don't be so stubborn as to ignore the last option entirely. Better intervention at an early stage, than a later, more serious one. ;-)

I know, but most medication ie Antibiotics make me feel worse as I am allergic to most of them :-(

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 15 Oct 2012 15:12

Which reminds me........I got an invite to make an appointment for a free NHS health check "being offered to people aged between 40-74 once every five years". Keep putting off phoning as I always seem to be down there with minor reoccuring problems, which can only be fixed by medication :-( I know, I've asked if there was anything 'over the counter'!

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 15 Oct 2012 15:15

I am off down the surgery in a couple of weeks anyway to have the poor old joints assessed :-D

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 15 Oct 2012 15:23

Hope that can do something for you soon - it can't be pleasant having to live with the pain or discomfort.

All booked up for 2 weeks time and will probably get the normal nagging session about you-know-what. They've already checked off 2 of the age related things listed as part of previous investigations! At least both you and I can get our flu jabs at the same time :-D

LaGooner

LaGooner Report 15 Oct 2012 15:34

I will have to see about that as if they offer me the same meds as before they had horrible side effects :-(. I don't have the flu jab either :-D, Never had one in my life
