Evening YG hope you feel ok. Just sat down a few minutes before getting some tea ready.

YG

YG Report 8 Nov 2012 17:43

I'm much better this evening, thanks, LG. Yesterday was a day that I would rather forget :-( :-( Far worse than the first time, but a different consultant did it and I'm hoping to get the other one for the next appointment :-)

LaGooner Report 8 Nov 2012 17:49

That happened to OH. First surgeon made a B***s up this is the one he has trouble with but second one was good. Off to hospital again next week :-(

Whoops, got a power cut and had to log off. The sockets are back on, but the lights are really odd. Some are coming on very slowly, but then flashing and the kitchen light won't come on at all. :-(

OOOerrr YG. Never heard of light doing that before.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 8 Nov 2012 20:20

How odd! We've had a 'brown out' in the past, but although the lights were dim, they were steady and the kitchen florecesent came on OK. The electric cooker hummed which was rather disturbing - I turned it off at the socket, just in case.

OH says "Are they compact florescent bulbs ie energy saving ones? If so there may have been a power spike which has damaged them. Try replacing with an iridescent or halogen bulb and see if that works.
I can’t think of anything to do with the wiring or power which would cause a problem therefore it must be the appliance/bulbs.
That will be £30 consultant fee, thank you.”

Cor blimey, DET, it has just cost me £20 to get the lappy back on to the internet!!!

The power came on and went off four times. I was in and out with a candle like nobody's business!! And everytime it goes off I have to mess about setting up the BT vision box. That was all ok, but then I couldn't get on the net, even though the hub was ok. Phoned BT who thought they had resolved it, but it was obviously just a cache page of the BBC that I got and I couldn't get anything else. I have had to call out my 'computer man' to resolve it, but at least he has told me what to do next time. Apparently the domain name server was all at odds with itself and had to be flushed!! :-D :-D

The light bulbs are energy savers and I have just spent £6.50 on one for the kitchen, but luckily they are all ok.

Morning one and all, a bit chilly but bright and dry.

+++DetEcTive+++

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 9 Nov 2012 09:49

No more getting up early until after January :-D

Not sure what we will do today - there's lots of garden tidying up, and the ironing foothill to deal with.

Any suggestions for a colour for the stair and landing carpet as we're stumped? The current one is dark red. We have reddish hard wood in the hall, neutral with tones of cream in one bedroom and light wood in the others.
We've tried a dark blue sample and mid blue and have decided that a neutral will be too bland. OH wants a 'Statement'. :-(
Until we've chosen the carpet, we can't move on to the walls.

Morning DET how about a Green for carpet.

YG

YG Report 9 Nov 2012 17:26

This is for mahogany, but a similar colour to redwood I would think. Hope there might be a useful suggestion here, DET.

Warm Neutrals
Because mahogany’s natural color is warm, it works with most warm neutral carpet colors. Light-colored, warm neutrals include ivory, warm beige, buttery cream and gold-based champagne. For lower-maintenance carpets in medium neutral colors, consider latte, antique gold, toasty tan or toffee.

Dark warm neutrals ranging from milk chocolate to espresso brown also work well with mahogany, especially mahogany woodwork and trim. If you’re mixing them with mahogany furniture, don’t use colors of equal intensity. Even though the wood color likely contains more red than the carpet, the furniture will seem to disappear against the floor.

Cool Neutrals
Cool neutral carpets in light to medium colors do nothing to enhance the warm color of the wood. Avoid mixing mahogany with carpet in cool beige, taupe or any light to medium shade of gray, unless you’re tying the combination together with a patterned upholstery fabric or wallpaper.

Though they’re used less for carpet than light and medium colors, dark neutrals with cool tones do work well with mahogany wood. They look especially good with mahogany furniture in traditional styles, which frequently feature inlaid borders of ebony. Charcoal, black-brown and deep gray-brown carpets pop the inlay while contrasting with the rest of the piece.

Warm Colors
As with warm neutrals, most warm colors go well with mahogany. Warm pinks and many warm reds look rich against the wood. Take a carpet sample home if you’re considering reds with brown or orange undertones, such as rust, brick or cinnamon; the color may blend too well with the wood. If the color looks too close, consider an orange-pink instead. Coral carpet, from light to dark, works well with mahogany.

Nearly all shades of orange, from apricot to pumpkin, complement the mahogany wood color. From lemon to honey, yellows carpets go well too. Yellow-greens, plums and red-based violets look beautiful with mahogany, but they’re bold choices for the floor; make sure you can live with them for the life of the carpet.

Cool Colors
Though many cool neutral colors don’t flatter mahogany, pairing cool colors with the warm wood frequently enhances both. Cool red carpet looks striking with mahogany, as do cool pinks ranging from rose to burgundy. Though lilac, lavender and cool violet aren’t typical carpet colors for living spaces, they’re lovely mixed with mahogany in bedroom applications.

From light to dark, most blue, blue-green and green carpets complement the reddish wood. Grayed greens are the exceptions. Take silvery sage, for example. The wood makes the carpet color look flat and dull, and the carpet color does nothing to enhance the wood. Grayed blues, on the other hand, go well with mahogany.

And how about a chiropracticioner for my knees hip and shoulder?

Or maybe its just age and I should find a good book.

YG

YG Report 9 Nov 2012 19:03

Evening David

A chiropractitioner could probably help you.

I have had acupuncture and didn't like it, but I know others that have been ok with it. A personal choice, I think.
