That looks interesting Aunty, I have bookmarked it to read later... we have the odd genealogy day at the City Library and now and then the Genealogical Assn puts on a day but so far I have not attended. I wonder if Huia has ever gone to one, she can be quite a gadabout.

The deer fence is coming along nicely, when finished we will be able to have our own bambis and raise our own venison.

Good evening Puss, and good morning Aunty if she hasn't disappeared off to work work. :-)

The Australian congress thingy looks far more professional than our WDYTYA show. Ours is more to show case/sell FH related books/resources/search sites/groups etc. Yes, the major players do arrange talks, some, like Ancestry for an additional £2, but most are free. Considering that our tickets would have cost £22 for 2 + a small booking fee, AUD 145 for a full day pass does seem rather excessive. That's getting on for GBP100!!! The speakers had better be good at that price. Interesting to read that many of the exhibits crop up in both countries ;-)

Glad you enjoyed your film, Aunty. It looks like the sort of thing I might watch on TV, but not necessarily at the cinema.

A good result for LG. Well done her team. 'Unmentionables'? What are those? There's always tomorrow, or the day after, or next week, perhaps.

Ha! But you see we do have similar events.

http://www.gouldgenealogy.com/2012/02/13th-australasian-genealogy-congress-the-details/

Only thing putting me off is the cost of going. I don't have to worry about accommodation etc because I am here already. I suppose I will probably purchase a day ticket and choose one day to go along and take a look. Would be sillly to miss out on the oportunity.

The film I saw was One For the Money. It is based on the first Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich. Quite entertaining, doubly so if you know the characters and the story. The series is up to book 18 now so the movie just scratches the surface.

We have a reprieve from the heat this week. Down to the mid to high 20s. Hopefully I will sleep a little better.

Well done to the red and whites. My proper footy team played it's first pre-season games yesterday. Really dumb idea in above 30 degree temperatures. They managed to win but it is not a very good indicator of how they will go when the actual home and away games start at the end of March.

The renovations are going well. Persie is making a really good job of them!! :-D I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

It's been a lovely day here, but chilly when the sun goes in!! Managed to do a bit of pruning this morning and spoke to my naked gardener about helping me with a new shed and patio in a few weeks time.

Have done all the unmentionables so am now chilling out!

Enjoy your leave Maz. I have a few days off in another three weeks and can't wait!!

Your Edmund Hillary tent has instructions??? My goodness, how innovative!! Did you rub the boy scouts together to start the fire? That is supposed to be the default way to start one if you don’t have matches, and probably more interesting than rubbing 2 pieces of wood together. You’ve worked so hard at the reno’s you deserve an early night. :-)

Even though one of the young ladies had a name tag with ‘Jane’ on it, I’m still not convinced that Jane Smith isn’t a generic made up account created for the Show. We’ll have to wait and see if my apologetic PM is opened, and the post deleted.

It’s a shame that you don’t have a WDYTYA type of exhibition in your part of downunder; it would be great to visit and gather information about research sources etc etc.

Persephone Report 26 Feb 2012 09:39

It is awful to be so far away - I don't mean on the other side of the moat where I am building a canteen and proper facilities.... but being on t'other side of the world and not being able to attend these things.

I see "Jane's" surname is Smith... I will pass on researching her LOL...

I am just about ready to get my sleeping bag and bedroll out, may use the tent tonight. It is an Edmund Hillary one and was darn difficult to erect. All these slot A into slot B etc .. and then four boy scouts came along and helped and we toasted crumpets and marshmallows on the camp fire. Lord Baden-Powell taught them well... so glad they have not emulated him and wear the same type of shorts though..

So dib dib dib and dob dob dob and I am off to bed...

I will erect the deer fence tomorrow..

Persie

I am envious of your excursion particularly the handy hints bit and being able to mingle with FH celebrities. Just finished fitness and am off to the movies with a couple of friends this afternoon. We are going to see a movie based on a series of books we all read. Hopefully it is close to the books, if so it should be quite entertaining.

As part of his birthday gifts OH received some plants. Tomato, capsicum and rhubarb. The Blonde one was responsible, and handed them over with the message, here you are Dad, you know how much I like tomatoes and capsicums, but not the green ones. I know you like rhubarb so that one is for you!!
