When my brother and I were children we used to take our “old” toys to what I thought was a children hospital but was a convalescent home for children before Christmas, I think this was partly because Mum grew up in an orphanage and knew what it was like to be in a place like that.

When I ran the Brownie and Rainbow units we used to all bring in a gift and wrap it with homemade wrapping paper and tags to make them extra special.

We do something similar too and I’m so glad that we are in a position to help.

It has always been something I have supported and still do by giving wrapped gifts to our church where they are then distributed to the hostels.

Good thing to do too, one of our neighbours and her two children were physically and mentally abused by her husband, she managed to find a women’s refuge and escape with only the clothes they stood up in and a few toys, and she was forever grateful for the help and donations they received from people who didn’t even know them but helped none the less.

Mine were secondhand too but I sold them as nobody I knew was pregnant when I had done with them. I also had a huge bag of baby clothes and blankets etc that I gave away to a charity that helped the homes for abused women and their children

We bought a second hand pram and push chair which I gave away many years ago to a friend who thought she was going through the menopause but she was about 8 months pregnant so they only had a month to buy baby clothes etc.

Edit. One way or another we have had an interesting life and some very odd moments too.

How lovely ZZzzz, I wish I had kept the pram I had for the youngest it was so lovely to push and it was gleaming when I sold it. I also had the matching pushchair but I had no use for them because she was definitely my last :-D

Talking about old stuff, my parents in law were going through their attic and sheds getting ready to downsize, they still had the pram and associated things that they bought when hubby was born in 1955, it was given to a film studio and they use it all to this day for programs and documentaries of the 50s.
