GEORGE
I'll smack your wrist! lol

There are so many worthwhile charities it's hard to make a choice.. I chose local hospice and Guide Dogs. The dogs because my arthritis was affecting my eyes and it made me think what it would be like to be dependant on a dog.. As well as keeping grandkids quiet! They have learnt so much from it too.
All these types of trained "Helping Dogs" are simply amazing.
Nite nite off to bed.

We adopted our dog from a Labrador rescue centre and they dread the New year - every year they are full with unwanted Labradors - some people see the cute Andrex advert and rush out and buy a labrador pup for the kids for Christmas - the novelty then wears off when your up in the night toilet training, going for walks in wind, rain and snow and the kids have lost interest

As the saying goes " A dog ( pet ) is for life and not jst for Christmas

Last week,in our local paper, there was an appeal for people to adopt an animal from the RSPCA, ready for the xmas inrush of abandoned pets.

So,your damned if you do,and damned if you don't.

And no,hubby wouldn't let me add to our three cats!!!

Hi Alice

Thank you and the apology was not necessary but I appreciate it.
I would not like to think of anyone getting a dog and not treating it properly. I have pm'd you.

best wishes
Di

gemqueen - I have pm'd you and apologised if I've offended you.

I just wanted to raise the issue that a lot of pets are bought over Christmas, then the novelty wears off - I was not at all referring to you in person.

Apologies again.

Tricia a brilliant thread

lets your kids 'adopt a dog ' before getting them one.

Sorry Tricia
Just a bit sensitive and to be honest and I should have expected some sort of response to my thread being so close to Christmas. Really excited at the prospect of Daisy arriving and us having a long life with her. We have always had Lhasa Apso's in the extended family and would never dream of having them as a gimmick.

I never thought about sponsoring guide dogs either and thank you for reminding us all.

Hiya Di,
Where you Gone?
You and hubby are grown ups,of course you should have a doggy...

It's just Kids ask and ask and I sponsored a few years ago for my Grandkids and they love getting the info each year on which dog they are now sponsoring.
Very rewarding---without the "Walkies".

Hope you don't mind me saying this LWD, but can folk please, please remind people to 'think' before buying a 'pet for Christmas' - be it a dog, cat, hamster or whatever.

They deserve to be loved and looked after once the initial novelty has worn off and it can be hard work. We chose them and we should care for them.

No offence meant.

That time of year again, just another reminder..
If your family wants a puppy for Christmas remember you can always sponsor a puppy with Guide Dogs for The Blind..
