We are expecting a new addition on March,I wonder what 'it' will be called.
I've no idea if they will go for somethng different or a family name....which I dont think they will.I could be wrong.

I love the name Alfie ! Ok I am bias because our middle grandson is called Alfie John ,like Linda B's grandson and the youngest is Edward so I agree with Boro Joy the old ones are coming back.

It does seem that the older names are returning......where I live anyway......one of our Grandbabies was going to be Alfie, but was a girl named Evie........we have a Kenzie and a Baylie Rae as well as a William.....

In our area we have Alfies, a George, Williams even an Arthur.......Milly, Molly, Evie, Eva, Ella, Ellie, Mia, ...... at least with the variety of names their forebears will not be trolling through lists of Mary Anns, James, Eliza, Elizabeth, Williams etc. generation after generation.....

I don't mean forebears.....too early in the morning for me......you know what I mean....

My nephew was out with his fiancee the other week and I bumped into them, they were saying they had got as far as talking about names for any children they would have. One name was Alfie and I expressed surprise as my nephew has a dog called Alfie, the other one is Frank. The fiancee said she preferred Ralph!

A couple of days before Christmas my son told me he had seen on my nephew's facebook page that he had been dumped! Looking since I see he still has the girl listed as his fiancee so maybe they made it up lol

I prefer names that you can't date - at schools now and in the next few years there will be so many Alfies and such and I think it's nicer to give the child a 'whole' name and then as a little one they can be called by the abbrieviated version and on other serious occasions can use the real name, like Alfred, Arthur not Archie etc etc What sounds cute on a little one can sound a bit daft on a strapping chap in charge of a company or something.

My son happened to mention the topic when here at Christmas altho he isn't seeing a girl at the mo so I don't think grandchildren are imminent! He poohpoohed some of my suggestions but did agree Lola was nice, but that's the name I had earmarked if I ever got another cat or dog lol

I gave him a name that isn't very common which he likes, and I hope if he has children in the future, he and his partner will agree on something else unusual for their offspring. We have a fairly uncommon surname so nice to have something unusual and timeless to go with it. Makes it easier to trace as well in the future.

O.h. son's name is Wayne and he hates it especially as he has a very very common surname too, so his girlfriend knows him as Sid which is the name he gave her when they were introduced, and has stuck.

I have five Chloe's (varied spelling) in the wider family, three Isabels (varied spelling) and at least three Adams, all in different branches of the family.

It's also very important to think of the whole combination of names and initals, we have a JAF for one little girl!

We have another 4 year old grandson Charlie William...5th generation of William on my OH's side. He certainly lives up to his name...he is a right Charlie...I am besotted lol.

That is weird - this year, I've known of two Charlies being born, two Williams and a Harry. (But also an Abigail, a Molly and a Nathan - all in the past fortnight . . .)

We have John, Joseph, Richard, James, Mary and Ann galore on my dad's side - I've been chasing a few up today.

Joy, just what I was going to say, good to see the old names enduring.

I love the name 'Eve' for a girl and 'Robin' for a boy.

My daughter is pregnant but you can bet your boots she'll hate these names!

I nearly called her 'Geraldine' but changed my mind at the last minute. When she was little I told her; she was in the bath at the time. She chewed the sponge for a moment and then said 'What is a Jerry Bean, anyway?'!

I suggested the name 'Chloe' back in 1983, when I was pregnant with daughter no 1. My M-i-L said 'That's so old fashioned. I had a aunt called Chloe'.

The only one that was on my list of possibles when I was having my two (and didn't know what sex they would be......well i did with youngest but not for a while).........was Evie....but it didn't go with my surname so I vetoed it.

I love all of them except Alfie. I can't imagine calling a baby Alfie:-))

I'm just thinking of all my ancestors who are called Thomas, William, James, Emily, Amelia and Grace. Now future generations will have to wade through all of those names again:-))
